LayZ 9th April 2006, 16:00 The topic title says...
System Speaker not working.
R u sure about this??Or is it that u don't get any sound output when u play audio files on your pc??
LayZ 9th April 2006, 16:30 Ok I checked the Dell website...it says the Dell Dimension 5100 model comes with any one of the following 3...
*.Integrated 7.1 channel audio
*.Optional: Sound Blaster® Live! 24-bit ADVANCED HDTM Audio
*.Optional: Sound Blaster® Audigy 2 ZS (D)1 Sound Card with Dolby® Digital 5.1 and IEEE 1394
Since you say that Windows shows an unrecognized PCI device,my guess is that you have a Sound Blaster card....and I believe it's the SB Live 24 bit one...
So I think you should try downloading Windows 2003 drivers for your card from...

ireshpatel 16th April 2006, 20:43 Thanks for replying
@TheRing
i m installing drivers from cd.
@layz
I had checked soundblaster.com. Surprising there is no listing of WINDOWS 2003 os for downloading drivers and even not in customer support
forms.
On more thing, Audio is onboard, there is no n e extra card.

qwerty111 26th April 2006, 19:49 Ok sorry. my fault. I have the same sound ports on an xp 3100 so it could be integreated audio but it doesnt look 7.1 channel. Ill take a look around. Also can you remember what the sound card entry said in xp?
Also I have a sound blaster live value (old comp) on my win2k3 and installing the xp drivers worked fine. Wish I could say the same about my cheap sigmatel dongle though...
A quick check on a linux forum says the built in sound on the mobo is an Realtek's ALC882 (codec with 7.1 channel)
Although h*tp://[Only registered and activated users can see links] has a codec for that chipset ; it seems to come with drivers and says 2003 compatible.
