even since this lately i've installed some new pc software and it seems that my pc is getting slow and slower ..any idea to format my pc ?:roll:

If you format your PC, does mean you will format youir hard disk and it consequently mean you will basically loose all information stored on it. In other words, formating the HDD is the last possible option for you. You may just need to reinstall Windows, you know... Over the period of time Windows got corrupted and needs reinstalling... So... It's your choice really :-)

I second that....this seems to be an increasingly popular notion that formatting the hard disk is the easiest possible way to combat pc problems!!

As for your pc getting slower lets be a little clear about whats troubling you...is it the boot time,application launch time,lag in audio/video playback..??please be a little specific and maybe one of us could provide a solution...it's best you try out standard troubleshooting procedure before resorting to formatting,however if you are absolutely intent on formatting your hard disk,do ask,and you'll have the details... ;)

fomatting the hard disk is good. it will ensure a clean setup.

try boot up from a windows startup disk ... then run fdisk to erase the partition and then proceed to format after creating a new partition.

Ok, to answer your question, i assume you use windows xp,
First you need to standby the following tools:
1. Windows XP Disk;
2. All your motherboard, display card etc.. driver disk;
Do not proceed unless you get all these in hand.
Secondly, enter bios by pressing [del] key while computer start. Then go to bios setup and choose the boot priority first priority CDROM. After that, put your windows xp disk into cdrom and restart your pc.
Thirdly, during restart your will be prompt if [press any key to boot from cdrom], then just press any key and you will now go to windows xp setup process.
Here i assume you are using ide hardisk. Then you will be prompt to choose install a fresh copy or repair. Then choose to install a fresh copy of windows. After that just follow the screen instruction.
After you have install the windows, put in your motherboard driver disk and install the bios chipset follow by the display driver, sound etc...
Strongly recommend you do a image backup after you finished install your windows and driver. So next time when you feel your pc is slow, and lazy to troubleshoot one bye one, the u can just restore the clean copy and skipped all this step.
Of course if you want to be pro to pc trouble shoot, do what like LazY say, first u will need to identify which part of the process is actully slow and what cause it then rectify it.

Actually u dun need 2 make a image backup, jz make a partition as i do and copy wat u want into the partition, then u can format the windows partition easily

note that everything on ur (assuming) c drive will be gone.. hence, its impt to backup ur impt documents, like those in your My Documents.. photos, musics etc, either burn to cd or move to another drive..

Why format...
If it's just getting slower, have u turned of your "indexing service", "system restore", "firewall", n other windows service that u not needed...?!?

saksham, to make a bootable disk, the easiest way is to go to a pc running windows me (recommended) or windows 98, then go to control panel and choose add/remove, and startup disk. Then you can make you startup disk for FAT32.

Best format a bootable Disk is FORMAT A: /U /S

And don't forget to setting BIOS system

rename "windows" folder to "oldwin"
rename "program files" to "oldprog"
rename "Documents and Settings" to "oldds"
restart with bootable CD and install new Windows
then just delete all old~ folders
(yeah, before that move Favorites, Mail and other cools stuff form oldwin)

but all ur data in this will be loast.. so be sure of takin a bacup of ur important stufff.. otherwise they will be lost..!!

just try out to set your pc for "best performance" mode.
