Welcome to the iPod-Linux Installer project hosted by sourceforge. The goal of this project is to create an easy to use GUI program that enables Mac OS X user with iPods to install linux on HFS+ formatted iPods while still allowing users to keep and use the Apple Supplied OS. Currently this project supports 1G, 2G, and 3G iPods. 4G, Mini, and Photo iPods are now supported. Installation on Nano and 5G iPods is possible with this installer but no support will be given for these iPods! Make absolutely sure you back your files up if you are using a post 3G iPod as this is an alpha installer release.

i hav no idea man..dont hav ipod..linux mentioned so i juz googled n pasted info...u got ipod try it out as people say u can watch movies on them or PM @familyguy for help

for the nano you can watch movies and videos and stuff but the ultimate is the ability to play DOOM!!!!!!, google search "idoom" and you can download it there

naw man u can have windows xp 2 i had instaled ipod linux long time ago it was way 2 cool watching movies playin gb games i even had picture viewer on a grayscale ipod oh it roked..my ipod busted now planin 2 buy a new 1..if any prob with ipod linux do tell me i'll help

is it safe to install these into my nano?. will i be able to trade it away if there's this prog. most imptly can i uninstall e prog if i do not wan it to be in my nano. thx man. i got to make sure first. :|

ipodlinux isn't safe at all. It is awsome but i'm pretty sure it voids your warranty. It's also impossible to "brick" your ipod

You should read the compatilibity 1st. 5g nano's arent supported with this installer but i do know they are supported with a hack of the original linux.


When I boot my iPod, I see a folder with a warning triangle.
During the installation your firmware became corrupted or you attempted (and somehow managed to avoided many program checks) to install Linux on an unsupported iPod. To correct, attach your iPod to your computer. Next, hold the menu and select buttons down until the iPod reboots and then immediately hold down the select and play buttons. This will put your iPod into "Disk Mode." Open the iPod Linux installer and after agreeing to the TOS, select your iPod and click the uninstall button. After waiting for the operation to complete, unmount your iPod and check to see if the issue is still present.
If the problem is still present, repeat the above proceedures however instead of running the isntaller again, backup the contents of your iPod and then use the apple supplied iPod firmware updater to restore the iPod to it's factory state.
You may still install linux on your iPod once this problem is solved assuming that your iPod is supported.

if you search google mate there are a few sites out there that acually supply u with information on how to watch or view etc, also there is an imitation nano doing around which features mp4 playback. question,,,, isnt the nano screen too small to watch a movie or video on

Playing iDoom is nice but it's not that user friendly with the wheel and one button.

But installing linux on an iPod will void the warranty :vom:

y there isnt a crack for a firm wire that makes me watch videos on my ipod because linux is very unsafe
