As far as I know, write access to the ROM (Z:) drive is only possible through a flash box. Editing firmware is very well possible, but difficult, as it would have to be done through assembly language, or hex code. Though if its just to change resources such as ringtones, etc. you might be able to do that using a resource editor, or the Symbian S60 SDK. But you'll still need a flash box to over-write stuff on Z:.

Though be advised, firmware editing is very tricky and VERY risky, you could end up freezing your phone, burning out IC's, making it unstable or just plain making it useless as anything but a paperweight.

exactly editing the z:drive is only possible through flash box with flash cable. the phone will not acept any editing from a simple pc software through datacable or whatever. many of asked the same as you, its just not possible. you need something to read the hex code and that can decode all those tricky OS files.

Why don't you just pick one of the loads of ads on the top of the iphone-forum.org page? They seem pretty good, and you'll be helping out iphone admins as well.

Wow I din know tinkering around with the firmware got such serious issue. My company's firmware expert still want to loan my new N80 to try out some firmware stuff, luckily I didn't lend it to them, whew.
