View Full Version : Help Regarding Virus!
vickyshahri 17th April 2006, 19:21 Hi Friends,
From the past on one week i m tensed as to what problem is with my Nokia 9500. As u can see in the adjoining picture, a line appears automatically in any of the applications in my 9500 and then i have to close that program.
After i restart the phone, it becomes perfectly fine but then after about half an hour or so, the line appears again in any of the applications. Because of it any of the programs close automatically. Sometimes MMS program, sometimes Smartmovie, etc. And then i have to restart the phone for that program to work again.
I have even formatted the phone as well as the MMC and restored only the Calender, Contacts and Messages.
I suppose its a virus and have used Norton Antivirus as well as AntiVir Mobile but to no use. PLEASE HELP ME FRIENDS...
vickyshahri 17th April 2006, 21:55 I hope someone helps me...Moderators, any idea, is there any solution to the problem with my 9500...i have even thought of selling my 9500 if i dont get a solution as i think the problem might be with the hardware...

Mark 17th April 2006, 22:54 that screenshot is obviously from a s80 phone. s80 is only 7710 and there are no s70 phones.
ashpreet_htbk 17th April 2006, 22:58 Hi Friends,
From the past on one week i m tensed as to what problem is with my Nokia 9500.
He has mentioned so clearly tht its nokia 9500 ! whts the confusion thn ?
voiceless 17th April 2006, 23:07 yup, it's 9500, and i think 9500 is s80 phone. He also mentioned that he already formatted his phone and mmc, so i think hardware problem is more likely here.
ludow 17th April 2006, 23:15 It looks like faulty hardware for me. (memory, display, etc).
cheers,
ludow
vickyshahri 17th April 2006, 23:19 yes even i m compelled to think now that it must be a hardware problem...but then i thought lets try, maybe any of u might have a solution...friends is it possible that the virus might be in any of the Calender, Contacts or Messaging files which i always restore after formatting my phone...
vickyshahri 17th April 2006, 23:21 Friends let me tell u that the line on the display goes off once i restart the phone but again after about half an hour it again comes in any 1 or 2 of the applications...again i restart the phone & again it becomes ok...
Mark 17th April 2006, 23:22 alaap asked what kind of mobile he asked. that was the confusion.
try formating the mobile without restoring that data calendar, etc. see if the problem remains. if its solved then the bug is in one of those files.
vickyshahri 17th April 2006, 23:27 Thanks for ur reply Mark but isn't there a way by which i could save my Calender, Contacts & Messaging files...forget messages, but my calender & contacts r very very imp. to me...
bullet 18th April 2006, 00:21 hi mate...
my best guess is that your phone has a faulty hardware. most probably the flexi-connector/clip-lock for the flexi-connector/or the LCD itself (I hope not). The reason why the "faulty line" not showing up when you reboot the phone is because of some technical stuffs: from my repair/troubleshooting experiences, when you reboot your phone, the circuit/stage connecting the display drivers from the supplied voltage (coming from the battery) is sufficient enough to run all graphics, colors for the right pixels on your phone. since the connector/clip lock is "somehow" deffective, or not properly and securely attached (driver circuit-to-connector-to LCD) it might be getting loose, hence the driver is not getting the desired amount of "power" to run the LCD in its full capabilities.
tell me, have u accidentally dropped ur phone or did it bumped into something hard?
one more thing to consider is the ESD (electro-static discharge) that might have been applied to the LCD terminals. But most unlikely if your phone was never been "open" or repaired before.
let me add as well that this is quite unusual to be considered as a virus/malware or any other software issue since the image of the problem you've shown was of a distorted pixel/s - not a distorted image...
Best advise I can share is for you to bring your phone to a certified nokia service center and have it checked by their technical staff...
hope you get this resolved...

alaap988 18th April 2006, 13:11 It's better to remove the application that u installed on ur phone memory (tools-->manager).
1. First, u can save ur contacs's database by using this method: use fileman app. (symbianware.com),
point to c:\system. Rename the folder data (c:\system\data) to be data1 (c:\system\data1).
Find the file 'contacts.cdb' in that folder. Copy and save it to ur mmc or any other place that posible (like pc maybe).
Rename the folder again to be data (c:\system\data), restart ur phone. The file contacts.cdb is ur contacts database.
2. Type *#7370# at ur phone.
2. Enter the phone code.
3. Phone will be restart.
4. Wait for a while untill ur phone
is finish for formating ur phone memory and turn on.
Copy the file contact.cdb that saved at the first step to ur c:\system\data folder. Offcourse that u have to rename it first to be data1
Restart ur phone, then u can c ur contacts database Good luck
tht is 1 way
or u can as u say go 2 hardware where u got phone
i tried this on ngage qd
try at own risk

Thanks a lot for ur advise Bullet. Buddy yes i had dropped my cell once, but it was around 3.5 months before, that is somewhere in the mid of january. Actually i had fell down from the bike. The cell was in my left pocket and i fell on the left side only. The outer panel as well as the inner panel surrounding the LCD including one of the hinges got cracked and i changed the whole body from the Nokia Service Center and since then it was working perfect till some 10 days before when this problem occurred.
As far as getting it checked at a Nokia Service Center is concerned, i have done that too. I even got it upgraded some 5 days before to the latest firmware.

jai_23687 18th April 2006, 22:24 hey vicky...the same problem had risen with my 6630 3-4 days back.....it was when i had installed a software called smart hider...the selection bar which is usually blue had become pixelled the way urs has become...restarting the phone did temporarily solve the problem but it returned after some time...i removed the application and reinstalled it...and its working fine now...the point i m making is that this problem could also be because of software and not necessarily hardware....
goodluck m8......:iphonepost: :ilove:
Baron_FEL 18th April 2006, 22:29 I had the same problem (only it was a square) on my N90 but that was because I had dropped my phone :)
vickyshahri 18th April 2006, 23:59 Thanks a lot for ur replies Jai 23687 and BARON FEL...actually all the softwares installed in my phone r way too old and this problem has occured just about 10 days before...i havent installed anything new...
bullet 19th April 2006, 17:58 hi mate,
when you dropped ur fone and brought it to the service center, did the technical staff told what was damaged? I couldn't help thinking that it has something to do with the part/s being replaced or something. Have them check it again... I know it could be tedious but it's one way of getting on top of the issue... Best regards...
alaap988 19th April 2006, 18:26 well u could first backup phone on mmc
send it 2 comp
and then del all th other apps in c:/system/apps and then again backup
if u have imp entries itll get saved with contacts and all other stuff
all ur appssaved will be lost but ur contact calander phone utils will be yet there

After repairing the phone it worked perfectly for 3 months buddy...its only after around 3 months that i m facing this problem...
winwintoto1234 24th July 2006, 09:20 Unfortunately, I've just read your thread today (24/7/06). I'm sure it is not because of the virus. It must be because of the "connecting point" to the LCD or some eletronic failure.
If I've read your post earlier, my only advice will be to have your phone checked and repaired!
Anyway, glad to see your problem is solved and take the trouble to tell too. (I especially hate those people who does not bother to give feed back after he has got want he wanted!) Rep up for this! :)
p/s: Mods, please close this thread...
noban 24th July 2006, 12:17 he never mentioned his problem is solved or did he :) but since all suggesting hardware problem best advice is to get it checked now...take care :)
