It appears this is a bug in Service Pack 2 of Windows XP dealing with a loss of network connectivity for workstations that use Microsoft’s L2TP-based virtual private networking (VPN) client to connect to servers that are connected to NAT-based networks. However, this bug seems to appear in situations that are not associated with VPNs either.
Solutions to the problem are varied, however most of the solutions found on the web just mask the problem by simply guiding the user through turning off this notification. Now this solution may work great for systems that are showing a false positive error, but what if the system genuinely has lost its local area connection or the connection is unstable, what then?
How do I know if my system is affected by this bug?
If you have installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 and are experiencing any of the following symptoms, this bug is affecting your system.
After installing Windows XP SP2, your network connection reports a problem with "Limited or No Connectivity"
You have trouble connecting to the Internet or your local area network after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Your network connection gets stuck "Acquiring IP Address"
What Steps Can I Take to Fix This Problem?
If you are receiving this error, you should run the Microsoft patch (KB884020) for it. Follow the instructions below to do this. Alternatively, you can download a zip file with the patch, registry file, and instructions by clicking here.
1) Download the patch from Microsoft's site
2) Run the update to install it
3) Reboot your computer
What If Installing this Patch Doesn't Help?
Other Causes For This Problem
If you are still experiencing this error message even after running the patch shown above, you may be experiencing one of several problems shown below:
1) Your Network or DSL router may have bad or missing information. Powercycle your router and/or rebuild the configuration in your router.
2) Double-check your cabling to the computer. Make sure you have the correct type of cabling, straight-through CAT 5 or possibly a crossover cable and try another cable or test the cable to make sure its working properly.
3) Check your network card to make sure its configured correctly and working properly. Many times setting the network card to 10Mbps/Full Duplex will solve this issue. To do this, open Control Panel, System, Device Manager. Go to the properties of the Network card, click on the Advanced tab and find the Link Speed and Duplex section. Change it from Auto Detect to 10Mbps/Full Duplex.
4) Check and test your firewall. Your firewall, especially if its a software firewall like ZoneAlarm, Black Ice, Norton Firewall or something else could be blocking the connection. Disable your firewall and test the connection. You may have to resolve the problem by even uninstalling and reinstalling the firewall.
5) Check your IP address assignments and workgroup settings in the computer for accuracy. Statically assign IPs to the computers in your network.
6) Reset your TCP/IP stack by downloading and running WinsockXPFix.exe a Visual Basic program designed to fix corrupted TCP/IP issues, host file problems and a variety of other connectivity issues.

If you receiving this error message when viewing an email in Outlook Express, here is how to fix it.
With the introduction of Outlook Express 6, Microsoft has added an additional feature to prevent customers from infecting their machines with viruses. Outlook Express uses the Internet Explorer unsafe file list and the Confirm open after download setting in Folder Options to determine if a file is safe. Any e-mail attachment with a file type that is reported as "unsafe" is not downloaded, and access to the attachment is removed.
However there are times, you may want to view an attachment that Outlook Express has deemed as unsafe. In these cases, follow these instructions to allow Outlook Express to show the attachment.
Start Outlook Express.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Security tab, click to clear the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus check box under Virus Protection, and then click OK.
To better protect yourself from viruses, its a good idea to leave this option checked unless you definitely want to open the attachment.
Hope you like my post. BR.

USB Devices May Not Be Detected by Windows 98
Today i receive one case which inside a pc got 2 hardisk, one with xp and one with 98. The client bought one usb printer. The printer working perfectly under xp, but cannot be detected under windows 98. Checked all the usb driver already installed properly. Finally found out that the usb support has been disable inside the cmos. Just enable the usb support for all device under cmos. Problem resolved.
SYMPTOMS
When you plug a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device into the USB port on your computer, the device may not be detected by Microsoft Windows 98.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if USB support is not enabled on your computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, check the status of the USB components in Device Manager. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) beside Universal Serial Bus Controller to expand the branch.
If Universal Serial Bus Controller is not listed in Device Manager, USB support may not be enabled in your computer's BIOS.
5. Under Universal Serial Bus Controller, you should see the following components:
• PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
• USB Root Hub

CD-ROM drive disappeared and I cannot see it in My Computer window. What can I do?
One day you turn on your computer and cannot see the CD-ROM or the DVD-ROM drive in the My Computer window anymore. This problem is very common for laptop and notebook computers and might be caused by a failed drive or by corrupted software. You can try the following repair steps before you decide that your drive is bad.
I found this solution on Microsoft website and it helped me many times to fix the problem with a missing DVD/CD-ROM drive. I always try to replace the existing driver first and if it doesn’t fix the problem I go with removing the registry entry. Method 1 worked very well for me.
If the above mentioned methods didn’t work for you, you can try to reseat the optical drive. Overtime the CD-ROM drive connector might get oxidized and a simple drive reseating can fix the problem. Try to remove the drive from the laptop and put it back. See if it will fix the problem.
You can also try to boot from any bootable CD to see if you laptop recognize the CD-ROM drive on BIOS level. Put any bootable CD (Live Linux CD, Windows XP CD, Windows 2000 CD, etc) into the CD-ROM drive and change the boot order to start from the CD-ROM drive. If you laptop starts to boot from the CD, then the drive is recognized in BIOS and most likely it operates properly. In this case look for a software problem. It might be necessary to reload the operating system to fix the software problem. If you cannot boot your laptop from a bootalbe CD, then the drive might be bad itself.

i think that there's no problem in my LAN card driver......
i think that problem is in the OS that it blocks the maximum capacity of my conection to the net.......
i upgraded to SP2, so i will be able to use the USB driver of my n7610......
i didn't expect that this will be the drawback for my internet connection.....
T_T
i should have looked for comments before upgrading to this.......
hmmmmm.......
from the CD i don't have a chance in turning back since i can't uninstall it unlike being just an update.....
and from my condition, my last save point in system restore, is the day i upgraded to SP2.....
so i don't have any more option to turn back from my current state (xp pro)

Issue:
Display setting suddenly change to 16 color and a resolution of 640 by 480 after a crash due to power failure. Getting error messages at start up, ie "Kb891711 has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL" and "Helpctr has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" and "Rundll32 has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL".
Solution:
1. Reboot the pc into Safe Mode by pressing F8,
2. Locate the Device Manager under the Control Panel - System
3. Remove Display Adapter under the device manager
4. Remove all monitors installed
5. Reboot the pc in normal mode and Windows will start reinstall back the required driver (you might need the driver cd in some case)
6. Reset the color to 32bit color and resolution of 800x600, issue solved.

Refer to the above issue, i found another effective and much easier way is using the scanreg /restore function. Just run your msdos and under c prompt type scanreg /restore and choose the registry backup before the error happen. It works perfectly.

If this thread is dedicated to helping others, may I suggest NOT recommending formatting the PC for issues that can be resolved with simpler solutions. As already mentioned, there are many users who have important documents and cannot afford to take this step. The PC should only be formatted as a last resort as theres always another possible solution, unless unavoidable such as a hard disc failure.
Anyone who suffers from slowdown, internet connection problems, spyware/malware and/or viruses should be directed to a forum and/or an experienced advisor that specialises in that field (google Hijackthis forums). Or post a logfile here for viewing. Remember, google is your best friend too, most common faults on a PC has already occurred, therefore someone will have already posted the answer.
This was not posted to interfere or interrupt any users helping others and I apologise if anyone is/was offended. It is meant for informational purposes only.
