try this 1st reset and boot into disk mode while your ipod is connected 2 the pc..and then reformat

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

1. Before manually placing the iPod into Disk Mode you should verify that it has a charge, if not you need to either charge iPod before continuing or connect it to power. You can either connect it to a high-powered USB port, or plug the iPod Power Adapter into an electrical outlet and connect iPod to the power adapter.

3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least 6 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.

5. Disconnect iPod from the power adapter and connect it to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"

This happened to me, i couldnt connect it to pc either, i had to send it away to get fixed. it was under warranty so it was free.

now i have a new problem! a little unhappy ipod icon appears evey time i try to turn it on, connect it to pc or charge it. i tried hard reset and format (when the problem began i managed to connect it to pc). now i cant do anything with it. and warranty's has ended.

The nano has colour screen and is vary small and light. It comes in 1,gb 2gb and 4gb models.

The mini is larger and has black and white screen. It comes in 4gb and 6gb models however, the mini is no longer being produced as it has been replaced by the nano.

The nano is probably the best bet as then you can be sure it can be repaired when it breaks down.

On itunes, press 'Ctrl' + ',' this will bring up the Preference window. Make sure an ipod is connected. Choose the 'ipod' tab and uncheck the box that says "update songs everytime i connect to itunes" or something of that manner and it will be fixed!

Hi Lohiaprateek, Im using ipod mini and the other day i've upgraded my itunes but it wasnt running smoothly.Sometimes it takes along time to open n sometimes it doesnt open only so i've uninstalled everything and took my ipod CD n installed everything back.Now im facing a bigger problem,everytime when i insert an audio CD to transfer songs to my ipod(ofcourse ipod is connected) my computer BLACK's OUT completely.It takes 2-3 seconds immediately after inserted the audio Cd. I thot its bcoz of the CD so i tried all different CDs and all with the same results.I need some help!!!!

I have a 30gb ipod video but my problem is that the volume wouldnt go down. It is seems low but it sounds so loud so I could use the headset because it is killing my ear. I did reset it but it seems it only resets the other things except the volume. Is there any way that I can fix this?

I have an iPod 30 gb 5th generation (vpod).ive put around 15 gb of music in it.Yesterday i put around 3-4gb of football videos in it and hte ipod was connected to the comp for like 8 hours.....after that i dissconnected and tried to view the videos only to see that none played but all my playlists were intact and songs played properly.Today i wanted to check out if the situation os any better but my ipod isnt even switching on!!! my comp doesnt display it as an external disc nor does itunes recognise it now...Can you please help me??

Umm, do you mean that the screen lock has turned on? If yes, then connect the iPod to your computer, and iTunes will unlock it...

Hey have a 30 gig video ipod...when i connect to pc n open itunes it syncs any new changes but if i try to do some changes later it says required folder not found buts itunes still detects it.

Had the same problem... Install the new Itunes, restore the original iPod setings from inside Itunes, install the new v1.2 for the Ipod.

In Itunes enable the disk use for the iPod, and click Apply. Restart the iPod and connect again... The problem should disappear.

same thing happened 2 my frends nano. dont worry she fixed hers. she just left it for a wekk or so on its own and then tried to charge it and it started 2 charge and from then on it works fine. if in doubt take it 2 the apple store

This problem started when I reinstalled windows due to a different problem. Although the ipod is charging when connected Windows can not find it... it doesnt appear both in My Computer and in iTunes...

I tried everything...the only thing that I managed is when i Right Click My computer/Manage/Disk management and then I see the ipod there without a drive letter...I assign a letter and then itunes see it just enough time for upgrade...then again it disapears :(

Hi. I have a problem which I seen that many people have the same. I have iPod video, 5th generation, black which is my Christmas gift. I use PC but iPod is Mac formated. My PC noticed it and gave me a solution to reformat it. When I try to 'restore' it on iTunes, it says me that "Cannot connect to Internet". I checked all my connections, and everything seems fine. same thing happened to my ipod shuffle dude. apple center wasnt able to fix it.

I know what you mean mate. Apple have the worst customer services that I have ever encountered. I am just hoping that someone can help me out since apple were not much help at all.

BTW I have actually gone out and bought a creative and have actually started to hate apple because of this. This is my 3rd Ipod that has gotten screwed up . None of them lasted more than a year.

for "dead" ipod (not detected in computer & itunes), u may try this tips :
(i haven't tried this coz i dont face this problem)

I completely disconnected my pod and followed the steps for a reset (toggle hold,then simultn. press menu and the select (center) button;
THEN (and this is immediately after the system began rebooting on my pod and I saw the glowy apple) pressed the select and play/pause button to set my pod as a disk or whatever manually (you'll see a throw-back check on the screen to know you did it right and it will say 'okay to disconnect');
THEN I plugged that tricky SOB in my laptop and ta-da!!! Updates flyin' everywhere!!!

My ipod would not connect to windows or itunes so after long searching, I found a tip that worked. It's so simple also. I had to come on forum to report it.
1. Connect the ipod with the usb to to the computer.
2. Placing the iPod into disk mode will help you connect to windows, it lets windows recognize it. You may even try setting it to disk mode while connected to the computer and restarting the computer (I didn't do this, but this tip was also found). Here are directions on how to get into disk mode:

1. add genre to your music video files
2. create smart-playlist in your itunes, using genre as keycode
3. drag your files to library
4. create folder in your ipod (as many as you create playlist)
4. drag your files in playlist library to the ipod's folder

best bet just leave your ipod at the support & ask them to get it repaired as long it's free.

if the warranty has expired then you are stuck. Rather than paying for the expensive repair charges, you might be better off getting a new one

I just like ask for opinion about a problem on my 30G video Ipod,

What do you do with a broken audio port jack. happened last week to me and seems to render my ipod useless. I can only hear sounds on "IT" on video mode but on mp3 playback it gives off lot's of static and I am barely able to use it.

Long story short brought it to Mac Center (they don't seem to know any thing about it at first) Turns out its out of warranty which is fine, I'd gladly pay for repairs. After a good 2 weeks they returned it. Problem as they told me lies with a broken audio jack port jack. I dunno how i was able to break that 'dang' thing though. They said it cant be replaced they dont offer that kind of repairs. The only way I'm gonna be able to use it is by having it docked to a speaker rather than through it's normal audio ports. Well I think i can resolve it by buying a FM attachment that goes through the dock part of the ipod (cable port) which cost a hefty P2500 dibs :P I tell yah, apple can really squeeze the coins out of you man. Now i had previously had my ipod replaced thanks to warranty. It seems I'm backed up against the wall and i don't reall want to shelf a P13,00 gadget.

Now the thing is, I dont completely believe in any of the mumbo-jumbo the MAC center told me.

Question is: Is there a way to repair the audio port of a video ipod?? Is there anybody in Metro Manila who repairs these sort/s of problems? Maybe a quick soldering work here and there might do the trick? I honestly beleive some tech junkie out there can repair It, I for one cant. In a time where people can hack/modify PSP's and iPhones am really crossing my fingers someone can or something.

Seems to be a problem on your video converter man just use Cucusoft, I think there a link in this thread. Yeah and check if your windows video codecs are updated

Oh dear... happened to me couple of months ago, that seems to be a hardisk problem. Bring it to a MAC center see if they can re-attach the hard drive, sometimes the cable is just loose. Worst scenario is that the drive itself is broken in that case you need to replace hard drive itself cost about P4000 i think MAC center can do that for you hope you have warranty. Had mine replaced because of warranty. Hoping for the best for you though man. Foundy a funny post sometime ago on the web that a quick nudge on your Ipod, for some, got the work done. I would not reccomend it though :P

Well uhhh I think its not an Ipod Theme, rather i think it's a VIDEO/AUDIO for an AXE deodorant commercial maybe that you previously synced to your Ipod which is no longer present on your Itunes Library. Error message show because you have to remove it from your Itunes playlist also. Quick fix is just to rescan your Music library. Hope that helps

Well First, make sure that your MPEG video format is 320X240 your ipod will not play just any MPEG format, you can use cucusoft ipod movie converter to do that. Second, sounds weird but Itunes will not import videos that have long file names so just keep the video filenames short by renaming them to something simpler. Try to reset your ipod shuffle I dunno how that works but please refer to your manual or check this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300595

Now if that does not work try to plug your ipod shuffle to a different USB port on your PC, the one you normaly dont use; see if that helps.

Another one of those hard disk problems, data cable might have been detached or something bring it to apple center first specially if you have warranty.

I did all of that i even go to Apple Center in my town and they didn't know anything...

try this 1st reset and boot into disk mode while your ipod is connected 2 the pc..and then reformat

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

1. Before manually placing the iPod into Disk Mode you should verify that it has a charge, if not you need to either charge iPod before continuing or connect it to power. You can either connect it to a high-powered USB port, or plug the iPod Power Adapter into an electrical outlet and connect iPod to the power adapter.

hello, i used winAVImp4 to convert a video and told it to save the output to my ipod. after disconnecting the ipod i was HORRIFIED to find that the ipod registered none of the 8000+ songs i had on it nor did it register any of the videos.

i then started searching ipmart for some help. and stumbled on this forum. i was very hopeful the advice herein would work, alas it did not - itunes still said it could not read my ipod and that i should reset it to factory settings, i was very reluctant to do this.

i then had the thought that maybe winAVImp4 might be able to sort it out as this was the last program i had used with it. and sure enough - in the menu button on the main screen there was an option for IPOD REVERSION, one click on this button and now NOW MY IPOD IS BACK TO NORMAL.

so i would suggest to anyone using winAVImp4 (which is a very good piece of software) do not tell it to save straight onto your ipod, save the output to a folder on your harddrive and then use itunes or winamp to transfer it.

i hope this info can help some of you. good luck to everyone else.

I need help with loading firmware to my ipod 5.5G 80Gb.
When i download a firmware file that is in either a .zip or .rar format and i do the "Load Firmware" it gives me an error message saying "BE WARNED!Editing this block of strings (the whole strings) is very risky and should be done by program experts!" and when i click OK then nothing happend to the loading of firmware.

just want to share my experience here synchronizing
songs to an ipod nano (to be specific,3rd gen 8g) just in case..

one day,out of the blue i planned of changing and updating my
songs and when i plug in my ipod it says that there is a
new software available for this ipod,so i updated my
itunes. then i sync some new downloaded songs and POP!
it no longer sync and it said something cannot be found.
i think its the hard disk? so i tried resetting and restore it,
tried another usb cable(still for ipod)but still the same problem.
and i also tried visiting the apple web and found their 5 R's,
basically it also tells me what ive been trying to do with my ipod.
im getting really frustrated about it so i plug it in again and
restore it but its taking like a lifetime (i was playing solitaire
while waiting) so i reset my ipod while its still restoring and
it works. their 5 r's didnt tell me to restore and reset my ipod
while connected at the same time. whew,i thought i have to go and bring it
back for repair which will be a great pain. and btw,about the video
conversion,try total video converter.it totally works for my ipod and htc
and my aunt's iphone,sounds and video quality are great too. kudos to all!!

i've got an 80GB ipod... had some battery problem with the previous one, thankfully the store accepted to change it.so i got a new one... i've got xp sp1 on my pc, so new version of itunes does not run on it... i decided to use anapod explorer.but the prob is that whenever i sync music to ipod, they do get transferred.but when i look in my ipod after ejecting, there's 'no music' displayed. the music files that i had transferred are of the correct format + the folders in my ipod are not hidden. i just can't figure anything out. could you plz hlp me????

i used to manually put files on my 80gb ipod classic when it crashed syncing photos. For a while, it couldn't sync photos despite having no problem syncing podcasts. Being an obsessive compulsive, I decided to spend the whole day reformatting and resyncing all my photo, music and video libraries which took the whole day. It's working A-ok...but the thing is, im now having a weird time when my ipod is plugged to my pc. Previously as long as it it connected, it's backlight is on (even if it only set for 5 secs) and displays the charging or syncing screen. Now the backlight turns off and when i touch it to turn off standby mode, i will be facing the split screen main menu (but my battery indicator tells me its still connected to the pc). Nuthing seems to be out of place, im jus curious. I still have the latest fw and my ipod's on default setting (from my last restore)

as far as i know, only 5.5gen ipods have the search function...try updating ur firmware...

I just started using a 1st gen NANO 1GB for podcasts only. Can you offer any advice as to why when I sync, iTunes does not allow me to sync the calendar and contacts lists I have in Outlook? It simply doesn't see that Outlook is installed on the machine, and says I must install it in order to sync contacts and/or calendar.

I had no problem with it seeing Outlook and syncing with the iPhone, both contacts and calendar. When I plug in a Touch, it sees Outlook and offers the option to use it. Its almost as if its an issue with the iPod itself? It appears even the 1st gen should be able to sync with Outlook based on what I have read online...any thoughts? I have tried it with Outlook open and closed at time of sync, as well as making sure that Outlooks is default for everything. I am on Vista, if that is of consequence. THANKS!!
