Notorious iPod Annoyances

I really enjoy the iPods I have purchased over the years, but I (and apparently others also) find that there are some iPod features that are annoying.

For a bit of fun I have listed the issues below, with workarounds to make them a bit less annoying.

1. Apple Earbud Headphones

Annoyance:I see countless iPod users enjoying their Apple earbud headphones as they walk, skate and run, and I can’t even get them to stay in my ears while simply sitting on the sofa.

Workaround: There are many third-party vendors offering various styles of earphones and headphones. I bought several pairs of cheap Sony MDRJ10 clip earphones (under $10) for use while running and at the gym. They fit my ears perfectly, and I don’t need to worry if I accidentally crush them.

2. iPod shuffle Power Switch

Annoyance:The iPod shuffle’s power switch has a smooth-surface, and the switch lies flush with the surrounding casing. This makes it difficult to move the power switch from the off position to the on position, especially when the iPod shuffle is in a case.

Workaround: Leave the iPod shuffle powered on, and press the play button for two seconds to turn it off.

3. Apple iPod Carrying Case with Belt Clip

Annoyance:My first-generation iPod came with the Apple iPod Carrying Case with Belt Clip. The belt clip broke after the third day, sending my iPod crashing to the ground (on to soft grass, fortunately).

Workaround: There are many third-party vendors offering all types of iPod cases to meet the needs of any and all iPod users.

Everytime i use to connect my iPod to the PC the iTunes would automatically update my iPod and next thing i knew all my songs got mixed up and or all vanished into thin air...!!!

This Post is for all you Guys to Avoid those long gruelling hours behind the PC screen uploading your iPod...!!!

Manual Updating with iTunes and iPod

To share music back and forth between your iPod and a computer (Mac or PC) you need to set your iPod to update manually rather than to sync automatically with iTunes. Manual updating allows you to delete songs in iTunes while keeping them on your iPod, or to keep songs in iTunes and remove them from your iPod.

To set up your iPod so that you can manually add and delete songs:

1. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes
2. Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list
3. Click the iPod Options button in the lower-right corner of the iTunes window
4. In the iPod preferences window, select the Manually manage songs and playlists option and then click OK

To manually add songs to your iPod:

1. Drag the individual songs or playlists from the iTunes window to the iPod icon in the Source list
2. The iPod icon will flash red and the iTunes window will show Updating iPod while it is updating
3. When you are finished, click the Eject button next to the iPod in the iTunes source list

To manually remove songs from your iPod:

1. Select the iPod in the iTunes Source list
2. Open the iPod's contents in iTunes
3. Within iTunes, select the iPod’s song or album you wish to remove and then press the Delete key
4. iTunes will display a warning to make sure you want to do this - click on OK

If at some time you wish to restore songs from your iPod back on to your computer, it is important to note that the ability to copy songs from your iPod back on to your Mac or PC is not supported in iTunes. There are many third-party applications available, however, that enable you to do this. To learn more about these applications, see the article Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC.
