check the power source... try connecting ur pc to a different power source.. i had the same prob with my old pc and the problem was there in the stabilizer and when i started connecting it directly to the power source without it, it worked fine and now its working perfectly... try it...

it could be also driver problem, just like vid cards from ATi.. could be Memory Defect, (to check ur Memory try Memtest) try this link..

replace * = t

Try the attached file I've included. It's a great memory tester. Lot of reboots are also caused by faulty memory card. It's an ISO, so just burn it to a blank CD, and boot-up using that CD, and it automatically performs series of test for your installed memory..

As above mentioned, please check your cpu temperature, try open your casing and check if the cpu fan is running. Normally the pc tends to freeze or restart when overheat. Please feedback.

FROM MY POINT OF VIEW AS U FORMATED PC ONCE:
it cannot be due virus or software problem or driver!!!
1.if it worked fine earlier with same os cd then os plus driver workin fine..
2.if problem started after power surge,u probably damaged hardware
3.alternative is try runnin linux live cds (free on net) if it runs fine probably ur hardware ok problem with windows..install different fresh copy of win..

hmmmm almost same problem. so same solution change ur pc man, its too old:butthead::butthead: P3 733MhZ and u r trying to keep anti-virus also in that and also using net connection. it was gud to use in the time when it came but now technology changes and old hardware also gets worn out, like urs, instead of investing in getting harware 4 tht, u invest more money and get the new one and most probably u wnt get new harware for P3 coz the companies have stopped making them long ago, u will get old ones or what u say 2nd hand, rest all depends on u..:supz::ilove::iphonepost:

Banks mate Windows XP may run slow on a P3 machine...amybe it'll take time to boot up,application launch to very slow, but there's no reason for the PC to shutdown and restart at will..running a Linux Live CD like noban suggested is a good idea..

But no one seems to mention when the problem started,or if they have made any hardware changes of late...that's vital info guys..

hmmm atleast it can make it run faster and then it will restart faster and it will be back to normal much faster
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: just a joke man.
u r absolutely rite that some hardware changes mite have possibly effected it. lets wait for the person concerned b4 comin to the conclusion.:ilove::iphonepost:

I had the same problem before. My computer keeps reseting spontaneously. If u had formatted the computer and the problem persist, i believe it should be power outage problem. U may have to change ur motherboard or power supply

Better send it off to a computer repair shop dude. These things cannot be answered by this thread alone. There are too many variables to consider: RAM, heat, motherboard, CPU, power supply and software.

by the way windows xp are expected to run on P4 and above (if any arrives) these days. AMD rocks. Rockstable. havent pressed ctrl+alt+del even once since 1.5 years..... its time to throw out the oldies...

I have a computer that has the foll configuration

Intel 845GL chipset
pentium 4 processor 3.06Ghz,3.07 GHz

The desktop board says Supports 800/533 Mhz system bus
Supports DDR2 533/ 400 SDRAM Memory

can u say wat does it mean by 800/533MHz system bus.
My physical memory is 448 MB . i want to upgrade my computer .
Can i increase my RAM upto 2 GB ... I have two slots on the motherboard for RAM .. wat does supports DDR2 533 mean ???? does that mean cant i place a RAm more than 533 MB in each slot.....

or should i change my configuration to

Intel 945 chipset
Intel core 2 Duo 2.8 Ghz

Is the RAm upgrade ok or should i go for a complete system makeover... Wat is the characteristics of the new configuration.

Thanks in advance

Myk!
