Changing fonts in s60 3rd ? here some info.. [Archive]

From what I could see, the Series 60 font supports quite a few languages but I don't think it supports asian languages (Chinese, Japanese).
Installing new fonts should be possible. On Series 60 3rd edition fonts could apparently be added in C:\resource\fonts. The problem is to copy a file there. The file manager that is preinstalled does not show these directories and because of the data caging applications are not allowed to write there either...

SEExplorer 1.0 and ProfiExplorer 2.50 can't write to the folder also, im still waiting for new System Acessible Explorer for s60 3rd :D

S60 supports chinese... my n80 displays simplified and traditional chinese characters

Yes, it will support Chinese and Japanese language if The phone was flashed with the Chinese and Japanese firmware. Your N80 will not display correctly when u try to browse another language eg. Vietnamese ( give it a try to www.vnexpress.net and you will see the broken fonts ). What i mention here is a chance to view other fonts if you can add the fonts to c:\resource\fonts.

fair enough ! Is so much the new os cant do yet is quite painful really . No app or full versions except a few minor ones , few games so only really themes are useful at this point . Hopefully this will be rectified eventually but until then are basically non eventful handsets :( am waiting myself on n80 but feel wont be much to do on it for some time yet.

nooooo, theres a lot of things to do, for example:
installing apps, finding out that they dont work and deinstall them :-)

anyway, this is new terrain and we have to be patient

I have changed my 3250 font by ...

1. Open a font file (e.g arial.ttf) with a font creater program
2. Remame the family name to "Sans MT 936_S60"
3. Copy it to your Memory Card (e.g E:\Resource\fonts\arial.ttf)
4. Restart your phone for 2 or 3 times
5. Finally you get new font in your phone

Bug: The font size is alittle big than normal in my phone. Perhap you need to resize it in the Font Creater Program

Just search a program named "FONT CREATOTER PROGRAM 5.0" in internet.

could u explain me this:

what is the "family name"?? :???:

Open arial.ttf font with FONT CREATOR PROGRAM, it has a menu named NAMING, you will see FAMILY NAME box, input "Sans MT 936_S60" to that box.

I'll attach image for you later.

I have tested only with 3250.

In E61? Please install agilemessanger, than goto preference menu, you will see a list of font name. Please tell me all of that list. 1 of them will work for you.

As you can see, I dont have the "Sans MT 936_S60". I tried with "Nokia Sans
S60" but still no luck. I only succeded with the one below it which is called "Nokia Sans TitleSmBd S60", but that only replaced the soft key fonts and program title font, not the Messaging and Contacts fonts.

Can anyone try with another 3rd Edition S60 phone?
I feel that E61 is a special phone (in software terms).

P.S: I also tried "SwissA", didnt work :???: .

i use nokia e 60, i think this font size is very small if use a text message, any software can change the size font.....

Need more detail on how to change the fonts.. tested using comic.ttf include in this thread. Restart 2-3 times.. still no changes.. could someone please let me know the step-by-step..

At the moment here is how I do it..
1. Using Card Reader create new directory E:/resource/fonts/
2. Copy the comic.ttf into the new directory
3. put the SD Mini back to the phone and turn off the phone and turn it back for 2-3 times

Please let me know where do I miss a step.

P.S. Running S60 3rd N80 phone

I found this app. It is a beta from Psiloc. It can adjust the font size.

It is unsigned and a trial.

Maybe someone can use it.

If you want to change your fonts..First you need xplorer app to browse z drive on your phone. Open z/resource/fonts. On mine, there 4 fonts.
1.nosnr60.ttf
2.nssb60.ttf
3.nstsb60.ttf
4.S60ZDIGI.TTF
I Just make a folder (via crdreadr)into E/resource/fonts, and put 2fonts(book man antiqua.ttf and comic blod.ttf) and renamed 2 fonts like above then put back my mmc to my fone and restart my fone. And my fonts has been change into 2 fonts. Book man antiqua and comic blod. Sory if repost. But i just want 2share my good work of my experience..

I have done this on my N80 using the "monotype corsiva" font that comes with Windows. Worked well and looks good. If anyboby needs help on doing this, please post.

but i think there is a problem with Monyozt's way in N80ie. I can't go into mass storage mode, the phone said "memory card is in used" or something. I've to restart the phone without memory card in it, put the memory card back and activate the mass storage mode. Is there someone has a problem like mine?

I multiplied and renamed the font and transferred it to the memory card in the appropriate folder via the data transfer mode; then, I restarted the phone, and font changed withing applications but did not change in the symbian menu and symbian interface as a whole, so how can I solve this ?
