you want to share internet connection or want to do networking for file sharing and gaming? If for internet sharing, just logon to your modem ip address (normally 192.168.1.1), then put in your login name and password and save the setting, that's it. If you want to share file or gaming, then just use your xp networking wizard, just remember to type in the same workgroup name will do. Hope this help.

@myrianekes, connect your modem to your NIC, then open your IE, then type 192.168.1.1 in ther address bar. Then you will be prompt for username and password, pls refer to your modem's manual (normally something like "admin" for username and password). Then you key-in your broadband username and password and connect and last remember to save your setting. That's all.

Pre, if u are using PLDT mydsl here is the process. click NETWOK CONNECTIONS (if you are mydsl subscriber), right click Mydsl then click properties. in the properties choose Advance. In the "Interner Connection Sharing" check allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection and check also the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Inrternet connection. then Ok. hope it helps:lol:

myrianekes, is your modem or your switch come with a router function? If your pc prompt for cable unplug, then check whether the led light on the nic and switch is on or off, then you will know which part actually giving problem. Mostly your nic.

Here are some tips that may resolve your problem.

1. Disconnect your working cable and connect it to he computer that is not detecting the switch. If it works, you have a bad cable, buy a new one. Don't build one yourself. Chances are, you might not get the correct wire configurations and you're going to need a crimping tool which is more expensive than buying a pre-built or branded lan cable.

2. If it's still not working, check your NIC card, if it's built-in from the motherboard and it's a fairly new PC, chances are you have a gigabit lan connector. Change the speed settings in the NIC properties. The speed must match with the speed of the switch. If your switch is 10/100 auto-detect then you must set your NIC to 100.

3. If still not working, your NIC card is busted. Buy a new one. If you're in the Philippines, that should cost you around Php150. Also, buy a pre-built LAN cable. Don't build one yourself.

Happy hunting! :D
