EDoom for the SonyEricsson P800 | P900 | p910i [tested on p800 | p910i]

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Port of EDoom to the SonyEricsson P800/P900/P910i (Symbian OS version 7). This time the port is more complete, game safe/load works, it has 8 channel sound support and can be configured to either rotate the screen to the left or right.

Download:

Latest version of EDoom for the P800/P900/P910i is 1.4. Download the .SIS file and install it on the P800/P900/P910i as per normal. Also read the comments below on WAD files.

What's new in 1.4:
Rebuilt EDoom with version 1.2 of ECompXL.

What's new in 1.3:
Fixed crash when displaying the map
What's new in 1.2:
Fixed crash ("E32USER-CBASE Reason number 42") when using the vibrator
Fixed toolbar bitmap corruption
Fixed "access denied" error during uninstallation. Sometimes you can still get an "In use" error; just reboot and retry the uninstall.

What's new in 1.1:
Updated video routines for P900/P910i (64K rather than 4K colors)
Added vibrator support (configurable option from within Doom)
EDoom will automatically close all running Apps before starting Doom to free up memory
Added bigger icon for App Launcher

IMPORTANT WAD files

The P800/P900/P910i version of EDoom comes with the original WAD files - INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE: "doom1.wad" and "doom3.wad" .

After you have installed edoom.sys on your phone, store "doom1.wad" and "doom3.wad" on the P800/P900 in the folder called DOOM under Document - PREFERABLY ON YOU MEMORY CARD - because the game needs free phone memory to run.

EX: d:/Media Files/document/Doom <--- In the new created doom folder you will copy doom1.wad" and "doom3.wad"

Game control

Game control was one of the... let's call it challanging aspects of porting EDoom to the P800/P900 ;-). Here's what I've settled for in the end:

Navigation:
Use the stylus as an on screen joystick.

The rules are:
Move the stylus up / down to go forwards / backwards.
Move the stylus left / right to turn left / right.,
When moving left / right at the same time as forwards / backwards the left / right delta movement is done in smaller increments to prevent jitter.
Strafe left / right when moving forwards / backwards to make a big turn in that direction.
Fire: Camera Button.
Use/Open door: Browser Button.
Strafe left/right: Jog dial up/down.
Look up/down: Jog dial left/right.
Jump: Jog dial inwards.
Other: Use the on-screen virtual keyboard for alpha-numeric input when needed (for example when loading / saving a game). Commonly used keys like ENTER, ESC, Y and N, and 1-6 for switching weapons are also included on the toolbar.
Configuration: You can change the key / button assignments as per normal via the menu (Options -> Setup Controls). The P800/P900 specific keys have been mapped to keys A-G.

yup... tried evrything as mentioned above .. it still givin the error message "No Memory" and then nothing happens ... although i have around 40 gb of free memory in my memory card...

- Confused -

[X3M]
14th June 2006, 22:00
 40 gb :o , I think there's an err here, Anyway ... Are you sure you have installed it on your mem card? And that you have enough space on your internal memory and that there are no app running when you open doom ... Other than that I don't know what could be the pr, my friend has a p900 and it works perfectly for him...

Cheerssss

hehehehe .. errr... i meant 40 MB :)

But my question is if I have to install it on memory card, then do i ALSO need free memory on my INTERNAL memory system ??

[X3M]
15th June 2006, 09:38
Yes man , thats why you install it there (edoom.sys and wad files), in order to have enough internal mem left to run the game, leave at least 10 mb of free internal memory and 4 of external and see if you can FINALY play this one ...

The controls are a little bit hard to get used to but after that is realy cool game , and great to show your friends

Cheeeersssss

okk... now after freeing some more memory, the doom did progress just a bit but now it gives an extended error message... "No Memory".... followed by ... " Reason Code KERN-EXEC... Reason 3"....

hey everybody.........
i got more than 1 GB of WAD games
nearly every WAD game from (golden eye, doom 64,duke nukem 3d,.........etc)
nearl 50 games
will it take a lot to upload them cause my internet line is slow
and if i can,how should i do it ???

[X3M]
20th June 2006, 20:33
Single wad files are useless, you need also an app (like an emulator), specifically made for each game, so I think you don't have the necessary sis files for playing the game on uiq but if you have 'em please post

Cheers...

Where can i get full version of wad files? i've already completed shareware, and its kinda frustrating :/, i have doom1.wad that comes from original doom, and thats a full version, but when i put it on phone, it acts like shareware.... i have doom3.wad from this package, maybe hes blocking it? i did a serach on doom3.wad over google, and it gives only a file that have 917kb, (same as mine)... wtf? anyone could help me with it ?

And second thing: you dont need seperate *.sis for every wad, i've already played quake and half-life on a edoom emu, and all i had to do was replacing doom1.wad with modified version.
