Has anyone else had a similar problem ?

I bought my son a 30gb ipod video for his birthday (8th May) which worked for @ 2 - 3 weeks, then went completely dead - would not take a charge. Tried using a different charging lead, tried it on another PC & even tried it with a mains adapter. Also tried doing the reset thing, but still nothing. So sent it back to Apple c/o their support site & in fairness the service was very quick, the replacement arrived in less that a week.
This replacement was fully charged, but by last weekend it needed charging, but again he had exactly the same problem - completely dead & tried everything again as above. Sent it back to apple again on tuesday & awaiting no. 3 now.

[EDIT] - Forgot to add that I have tested the usb with a gps receiver and it did charge the gps - so dont think there's a problem with either pc.

[EDIT] - Replacement ipod arrived on Monday afternoon & by 2:00 pm on Tuesday it had died again - same problem.

iPod number 4 arrived yesterday & died in @ 10 minutes.

Not got a clue what's causing all these problems, but with this latest ipod I never even connected it to my sons PC (PIII 800 & bought a PCI card for USB2) incase it was his PC that was causing the problem. So I connected it to my PC (AMD 2600) after installing all the ipod software & updater stuff and I intended to leave it connected to my pc to fully charge it up for him. After @ 5 - 10 mins the charging icon disappeared & a different battery icon appeared - @ a third of it was black & had a 'Z' type line through it. So now it was time to phone apple support - not much after that the screen went black while I was still on the phone to them, so they said to leave it on charge for an hour & then call back if still the same. I did this and after an hour it was completely dead, but after only @ 5 mins I picked up the ipod and it was very warm, after 30 - 40 mins it had cooled down quite a lot.

I wondered if there could be a problem with the charger / USB lead ? He was able to transfer MP3s onto the first 3 ipods though, but thinking back they only seemed to last until they needed a re-charge. I think it's highly unlikely that 2 different PCs would both kill ipods & even less likely that there was a similar fault in all 4 ipods.
Any techie type people got any thoughts on this ??

I'm fairly sure it was a faulty cable, when they sent the 5th replacement it was a brand new one & also came with a new USB lead, so I also replaced the lead and have not had any problems since then, so the old usb lead has been thrown away.

Spoke too bloody soon, the 5th replacement - which was a 60gb this time, died yesterday. The delivery driver picked it up this morning said it was his 6th ipod return this morning - two were screen problems & the others were same problem as mine.
They are very happy though - its keeps them busy every day picking up & delivering ipods.
