Is there any tool to backup sms from the mmc while formatting and again restore it back on the phone. I have a Nokia 6681.

here is mine "copy folder E:\system\mail to your pc then format your phoen or mmc.
after formatting restore it sms by copying and pasting again mail folder to your mmc (to dir E:\system)

this is some trick thats works with my N70 b4 formatting the phone (Or MMC) No apps require.........

Backup ur msgs
1. Use fexplorer: Make sure no "mail" folder in 'E:\system'
2.Change setting for ur inbox: from Phone memory to MMC. the phone will ask "save your original message?". If no, your msgs will be deleted

At this time the msgs will be in the MMC (u have backup the msgs)

To restore the msgs (after format)
Do the same thing to ur phone memory
1. setup ur inbox: phone to MMC.
2. Use fexplorer. delete the mail folder in "C:\system"
3. setup inbox again: MMC to Phone. same msg will ask
4. Now ur msg in ur phone back.

In your case, it easier... Just delete the "mail" folder in C:\system' 1st b4 changing from MMC to phone (Kinda tell me if its works or not...)

oki first of all if u notice that while ur changing the msg memory (from phone to MMC or the invert) u will be asked if u whant to copy the msg to the new Memory

but after few days and maybe weeks try to change the msg memory and u will notice that ur not asked to copy the msg's to the new memory

in that case all u have to do is open a system apps like selQ or FileMan......

if u are putting ur msg's on the phone memory enter to

E:/System/Mail

u will find a file named Index

Delete this file and voila u can now change ur memory and the phone will ask u if u whant to copy them

if u are using the memory card enter to

C:/system/Mail

and delete the index file

this trick help u in case u whant to format ur phone and u want to keep ur important msg's

there isn't any software available which can back up sms ;) only a card reader can does it :p suggest go to the how to.. section, there's a thread which shows you how to back up sms :) thread closed
