Hi
First of all what kind of configuration do you have? Less Ram memory means big start up times
The boot process depends on lots of factors, if you have a lot a programs that run at startup is normal to boot slowly:

*Check Start->Programs->Startup for any unwanted programs

*Install Bootvis (app from Microsoft to optimize boot)
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

*Try to separate HDD from CD rom/Rw to diferent Ide cables

Good Luck

Try with any USB devices unplugged, that increased my startup time

You could also try to remove unnecessary programs from msconfig. (START-->RUN-->MSCONFIG)

You can try msconfig -> boot.ini -> put check on NobootGUI box

It disables windows xp booting screen and goes directly to windows.
