View Full Version : TomTom where to place files/folders ?
abra 1st August 2006, 17:45 Thanks to everyone who posted tomtom / maps/ voices etc.
Could someone kindly clarify these points / give guidance:
My question is, where do I place each directory.
I installed tomtom onto e:\ (i.e. my mmc)
Then do I place folders onto e:\ which contain the maps? E.g. I got Britain so I would do paste it like such e:\britain\
But, where do I place the "Voices" is it also in the maps directory e.g. if I got a voice folder called "man", do I place it in e:\britain\man
Finaly, what about speed camera files, do I also place them in maps section? Or in a new folder...
Thanks
Kevlarsjäl 1st August 2006, 18:26 All map files should go in a folder called ex. britain and put directly in E:/
only map files and poi (bmp+ov2) but not the voices
for voices create a separate folder called Voices and put them all togheter then place the folder in E:/
you can chose between them in the application
all tom tom files (schemes, rasters ecc) must go in each own separate folder in E:/
the system folder of tom tom must be opened and there are 2 folders called Apps and recogs. those have to be opened again and all the folders/file inside must be copied in E:/system/apps [for the Apps folder] and E:/system/recogs [for the recogs folder]
the speed poi they should go inside the map folder I think as I see them as poi
hope it helps ;)
salcaz 1st August 2006, 19:54 is no correct e:\britain because all maps are called with final "-map"
for example
e:\italia-map
e:\britain-map
e:\western_europe-map
it's correct to put poi files (bmp + ov2) in the same directory of the map
it's important to have not any file in "read only" proprierties

e:\italia-map

:???:
I don't think it's necessary,I have 2 tom tom maps fully working and both are in folders called e:/scandinavia and e:/iberia without the word map and they work fine
salcaz 1st August 2006, 23:59 but do you use tomtom navigator or tomtom mobile? I'm sure thant tomtom mobile don't work with one folder called italia and not italia-map
Kevlarsjäl 4th August 2006, 04:54 mine is tom tom mobile but I can assure you that the name folder doesnt count :) it's the application that goes to search map file when u first open the program ;)
Barabba 4th August 2006, 11:10 there is a repack by Barabba with the full installation paths included. search for it on the forum. Simply place maps on E:\

1) I don't see why not as long as you follow the instructions above and make sure they go in the MMC Root directory.
2) Try it, and post your results :) .

lol you'll need a lot of time cause map files are usually huge but you can
after sending be sure to use the file explorer to create a unique folder in the mmc root and put them all inside ;)
HunzoL 23rd August 2006, 03:29 That is stupid, I'm not going to place all folders in root dir, that will be messy, there must be way to at least put them in a tomtom folder.

Dear TomTom,
After downloading a cracked version of your program I don't like how you have designed it. Please re-design it to suit me. Signed HunzoL.
You could try that, Or you could just say "Thank-you" to Russell1 for all the work he does on these threads and enjoy the program !!

mummygirl 9th April 2007, 14:03 Excuse me for adding a comment but somebody please put all the tipically British Maps and voices into a TomTom programme so that all we have to do is put it on mmc card and install on phone like a sis file maybe. Not sure if possible but I have had no success at all installing this programme on Nokia 6630. It loses something in translation shall we say. Its too complicated and when folks ask for info it just sounds even more complicated. This thread isn't that clear sorry but Im not alone I feel. Please will somebody take the initiative. Thanks.

Tomtom v6.01
-------------
E:\Raster
E:\tomtom
E:\<map_name inc. POI warnings>
E:\voices
E:\zip
Tomtom v6.02
-------------
E:\tomtom
E:\<map_name inc. POI warnings>
Does v6.02 require the following folders
ZIP (for postcode),
Voices
Raster
If so..... can i use the ones from v6.01 and are they stored on root on memory card.
Thanks

These aren't mandatory but optional.
zip is for enhanced postcodes ( UK & Netherland only)
voices is for add-on voices
raster is for that vague sat topological image you get when you zoom right out
And you can copy these from a 6.01 install

Don't know about mobile but on the TT linux based units e.g. TT1, TT510 etc that is certainly true. Also the map folder must be strictly called the same as the .mid file within it (without the .mid) or the authorization won't work.
The PDA version is more forgiving if you use the cracked software but maps can't go in sub-directories i.e. each map folder must be at the top of the tree.
