I just set auto-protect to OFF. Then the phone is fast again. You can scan every month but you don't need auto-protect on(atleast i don't need it)

If virus definition updates r available u can install the updates else u need to connect to the internet to download the updates inorder to keep yrself up-to-date with the latest antivirus definitions.
If u want updates to install there r norton antivirus definitions available after every certain period of time. U can search for the updates in the forum.

Symantec makes the phone slow and it only installs on phone memory. All the others i have only tried netqin, Simworks and kaspersky and i liked more kaspersky because it have best interface anti-spam and more options than netqin. the simworks i dont like the scan that it makes every time.
So my vote goes to kaspersky ;)

symantec only slows down phone if u have low ram...
my 6620 usually registers round 26 or 27mb... no slowage...
take stock of what u have installed that runs in background...like psiloc stuff an smartguard.
also... try to run 1 antivirus when possible.

otherwise...kaspersky rocks! waitin for full version

You can easily download the Virus definitions file (MOBILE.VDF) from the website and keep it up-to-date. It has so many definitions and is easy to download via comp. and transfer the file to phone (no costs).
Can catch so many threats or any kinds of small Malwares, because it is always up-to-date.

symantec and norton are just about the worst anti-viruses ever made!

kaspersky needs updating all the time because it stays up to date with VIRUS THREATS, which is the point, isn't it?

Also, kaspersky will have a solution to any virus within 17 MINUTES of it being discovered. No-one else can beat that.

I've fixed too many computers that have been broken by Norton and Mcafee and I always give them Kaspersky which updates every day.

I don't see why this shouldn't translate to mobile phones as well, except that mobile viruses are still quite rare atm.

Well what you say is 100% on the PC. Kaspersky is the only AV I use on my PC, and I don't touch garbage like Norton or McAfee. However the mobile phone environment is completely different. Just like Real Player is garbageware on the PC, but is actually quite good on S60. There are different teams who develop the products for PC and for mobile, especially in the big companies. So I wouldn't be so quick to dimiss the Norton and McAfee mobile product. However based on what I read here it seems the Kaspersky product even the mobile version fits my needs best so that's what I tried, and it really is very good.

However, maybe the other products are better right now and I don't know. The Kaspersky AV is in beta version right now and the latest definitions are from last month. So while it runs very well, I'm not as to it's effectiveness. However I trust that Kaspersky will make the final version the effective product as they do on the PC.

i must say, i think antivirus programms are not necessary. they put down your phones power and finally it doesn´t affect anything. and my phone works very well after all. WITHOUT antivirus!

i must say, i think antivirus programms are not necessary. they put down your phones power and finally it doesn´t affect anything. and my phone works very well after all. WITHOUT antivirus!

I'll second that, has ANYONE in the history of time ever... EVER had a virus on their mobile phone, wouldn't you have to be a bit of a prat to have gotton one?

I mean, this is all very well and all and a great thread with freebie can't be moaned at but I have Norton as standard on my N70 but everytime I receive a request and install an update I can't help but thinking... 'isn't all this a little pointless?!?!' :???:

Hey guys I got a new N70 and found the symantec antivirus installation file on my memory card... Later on after installing it I fould it valid for a year I think..it was expiring in 2007 that I know...
Well I have a GPRS connection and two days later decided to update the definitions etc...It worked fine and all the updates for liveupdate, symantec and virusdefs were d/l and applied...But as soon as the liveupdate fined I saw that the expiry date of the software had come to 20/10/2006 ie in a month... Since then I tried to update again hoping this was some error and would go once another update is installed...but not only does it not go but the liveupdate after downloading new virus defs shows a "failed to apply update" message...

Can anyone help please..

hey, i found solution to the files in the symantec, when i download them and extract them, they are unknown files, all you have to do is to add the extension .sis and for renaming go to up press tools>folder options>view> and untick the check that is on hide extensions for known file types. now just add to the name at last .sis, and send it to your phone :)

I think kaspersky should be the best antivirus.
I am using the kaspersky antivirus for my desktop PC for the past 2 years, really it is great. So i think for mobile also it will take very less resource and frequent updates. on the other hand, symantec whether it is a desktop or mobile it really takes the lot of resources.

I'm currently using Simworks Antivirus. But I've been choosing which of these antivirus works for me through your comments and even surveys. Haven't decided yet but hey, u know what. All i do is, before I get to put in on my phone, I download it first on my pc where I have the updated PC antivirus so that it will scan if there is any viruses found but yes of course there are some viruses that were made for mobile phones right? Why the best one? Yes.. The best one is must be heavy and powerful so it eats the speed of cpu, ram size and memory storage to expand its power.
Why need to keep the big antivirus running all the time even you don't need it at all?

Hello Youzef, Symantec is good choice... I suggest you to make your own decision by testing these AVs... Well Symantec is good because you can do regular updates so as NetQin... These 2 (Symantec and NetQin) would be my choice...

well i installed netquin on my commwarrior.c infected 3650.. i started scanning n it scaned my mobile n found 6 infected files so i pushed all delete option n it says deleted after that again netquin find some virus n ask for the action so i again pusheds the delete button n suddenly it restarts... after that i again scanned with netquin n again it find 6 virus :S so netquin is crap if u try to install it on infected mobile...
i have symnatic security on my n 7610 n its working best :D so my vote goes for symnatic ;)

I'm using QD. I think Kaspersky is one of the best antivirus for mobile, but since it just a trial version, so i'm using NetQin. It was a worth trying, and seem like it is comparable to Kaspersky. Here I want to ask you guys something. When Kaspersky start showing "Trial version expired" how can we bypass this message and continue in using this application? Can anyone tell me how to install an antivirus.

You can install it with nokia pc suite (application installer,the antivirus are .sys files)..I have a n70 and I tried avira and symantec security:they all work good.For updates you can copy update definition virus files and copy into your phone with the phone browser,then with fexplorer you can put them in the proper folder.
