You have a few options, if the machine you wish to connect to is Windows XP Professional than you can start straight away by using the Remote Desktop Connection software which comes with windows, just enable it by right clicking my computer, click on the remote tab, make sure that the "Allow users to connect remotely" IS ticked and then click the "select remote users" button and add the users you wish to allow remote access to. When you want to connect go start, all programs, communication and select remote desktop connect, type in the remote IP (or use something like dyndns.org)

Another FREE alternative to M$ is VNC which is free and available for download at [Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

I don't use VNC so I can’t really tell you how to use it, but there should be websites and help available.

You can also try Symantec pcAnywhere which is personally what i use but it isn't free :).

I'd go for the M$ product simply cause its there and no hassles.

Hope this all helps; if you have problems just let me know.
