I am making this thread for those people who wanted to make themes but they have no option to find the theme making skill.
I am posting the whole screenshots in 1024 X768 res. Because of the theme studio runs on this res well.
The original tutorial is really a bad experience for the new comers who don't know English.
So men start making themes and become a theme master.

I am making this tutorial on Theme studio version 1.21
For starting you need a version of Adobe Photo Shop above 7.

Now after installation open the theme studio and the screen below will be appeared. For starting a new theme click on the circled buttons.

And now this dialog box is appeared.
You can now write the theme name, Author name, areas which you want to include in the theme.

After doing all the work in the dialog box click on the ok button in the dialog box.

And then you will find a screen like this. You need a background of the resolution of 176 X 208. By clicking on the number 1 dialog box you can show the side bar bigger. ANd than click on the number 2 circled buttons to show the componentes* , Themes* , Browser.
And using browser tab you can select the background to use in the theme as shown in the screen shot above.

*Componentes : These are things which you have used in the previous themes.
*Themes : these are the themes which are in your theme studio and also those which you made previously.

Now you need to click on the Areas on the left side in the circled button.
And than you need a 176 X 44 res image to make a status area background.
As shown in the screenshot. [I have selected the same image like background.]
And also you can edit it with Adobe Photo Shop by clicking on the lower circled Edit button.
If the edit button says you anything alse and not opening the PhotoShop than select the phott Shop,s exe starter file where it is installed.

Now you can click on the second box on the left side of the edit box.[circled by box no 1]
Now you can change the nave pane background.
Note : The solid is in circle 2 and wipe is in circle 3 so you have to change them two and solid is appeared in the idol screen of theme and the wipe is appeared in the menu view.
You need the 176 X 15 pixels image.

Now click on the list column button and make this.
Now you have to learn about the sizes of things you need.
See the later posts you will find a post there that what are the sizes of all things are to be select in theme.
Now you can selsct all the list columns by using this technic.
And control area is is also like this.

Now you have to attach icons here.
Keep on clicking and selecting them in the circled buttons of the icons of apps.
A theme pack will be posted here of this theme which is visible in theme. You shall see all the things that are used in a theme and you can see which resolutions are used.

As shown in scr shot the high lights are visible.
High lights are in the gallery and settings in the phone.

Tabs are also known to change and also all know that better tabs are always needed in a theme.
SO edit them in Photo Shop and make them beautiful.

Now in the applications menu you can change the clock, idle background , clock, settings view, calendar view and goto view.
You will need more images to make them.

Now you have to change the colors of text and some small icons because these will be disappeared if there is a black text over a black background of theme.

YOu can also change the sounds but they are not often used in themes.

And now by clicking on the Check Out you can check and edit your theme again and click on the continue button to make the theme sis and change some more things.

i think you have not selected the including things for the theme in the screenshots from the right side menu.
so please mark them and than try to make that.

The animated theme is only made by the Theme Studio version 3.
But this tutorial is for the most famous Version 1.21
Which is used by the most theme makers.

Hi y'all, the basics r understandable, but I think it would be interesting if theme masters give some tips 'n tricks of editing theme components in photoshop, e.g. how to make transparent bars and highlights or glassy ones, edit clocks, icons, etc.

Btw, what is the function of vector editor (Adobe Illustrator)?

But, the main problem is that TS is very slow 'n lack/freeze after sometime in my computer. Anybody knows what'r the comp requirements for TS best performance? (I wonder KrisnaBP comp specs 'cause he's producing many themes in such short time).

to make a highlight grid look like transparant, use grey mask.

And for make a navipane transparant, just download from attachment. it's a photoshop psd files. u can see how to make it, it's a part setting of layer style setting.

but I found some problem when changing some icons & navipane volume. The icon still has black background not transparent. I think the icon must be masked but where to put the mask?? Thanks

Place the icon first, and u will see the mask button on ur right screen.

Okay, u see a gradiation blue mask. try change it to light grey and deep grey. and c the effect. u will know mate.

Hello there,
I have a question about Nokia 6630 Theme.
How to change colors of Hour and Minute Pointer for analogue clock?
I change it in Theme Studio, they look as i want them to, but on my phone they are still black.

I use latest Theme Studio 3.1 to make .SIS for s60 Second Edition FP2, edit both image and the mask, still only black pointers on analogue clock.

Hi Zede, ur theme looks promising. I wonder when u will upload it in this forum :???: Then, I guess ur clock isn't change bcoz ur phone is not compatible for modifying such kind. Try to install it in S60 3rd phone eg 3250 or N73. Let's see if it change or not, mate. :tonqe: Well then, if it's still not change... Ask in N Series, E Series Themes/Wallpapers forum. The theme masters on that forum are more experienced using TS 3.

I solved it by instaling TS again and instead of choosing Java machine that i already have instaled on the system, i choose the java VM theme studio installs.

I have problem when using 3rd party icon.

When I finish inserting all 3rd party icons & check out, TS1.2.1 reporting error message as follow :

"failed executing bmconv.exe
check that image is using 16 bit color... bla3x..."

If not using using 3rd party icon, theme creation will be successful.

Any help?? thanks

If you have transparent .png icons then per drag and drop, the same with .svg icons. For bitmap icons (not transparent) you need a mask.
You must resize the .png and .bmp icons to the correct size otherwise they don't look fine.
As example: 352x416px, application icons are 88x88px.
But here in the forum exits many threads where are icon packs available

and how to add iconx for other 3rd party software??

To use icons for 3rd party software you need the "UID" (fonts and numbers) from the software. I don't know if there are exsiting threads here.

You need the Theme Studio, download here:

Theme Studio 3.1.1 ([Only registered and activated users can see links])

You must register for download (is for free), also to use the program longer as 14 days.

Also a good graphic editor (photoshop, paintshop, fireworks and so on, or as freeware maybe gimp)
Read the pdf manual which are in the Theme Studio, read threads here in the forum, have much time and ideas, a fast pc. Create at the begin a simple theme to see how some things work.

Hello guys, I already downloaded the theme maker for symbian 60 ( or maybe like the above preview) but I have problem since my computer really slow responding the program and until now I still cannot make any theme cause I cannot run the programs (It always stop when I tried to upload a picture) can some one tell me the requirements/specification that my computer need so I can start making theme?, thanx

For the background to be used in the menu and other places, place the wallpaper under the "Background" option (Which is the 1st option when you start creating a theme) in Theme Studio 1.2.1.

For the background to be used in the idle screen, in Theme Studio 1.2.1, go to Applications>Idle Screen>Idle Screen Background.

In this manner, you can have different pics for menu and idle screens.

and this is wht i get when i use the icon...the black ground in the icon area

Left image...
i removed the black area in the icon provided by you n now it results in the white background...

Thats because it isnt masked and isnt names according to the Theme Studio naming system.

If you are using the icons from the iconpack thread, make sure all the icons are put together in a single folder, and do not rename them. (They should have these weird names like qgn_indi_.... etc etc).

It should work then.

That's not a tdf files. so u can't copy and paste icon to ur themes. u must edit one by one.

sorry! i've missed the word ICONS on my question...
this is the right phrase now, what are the pixel size of ICONS and type use for carbide.ui 3.1.1 for symbian s60 fp2 and fp3 version? any1 please can point me a tutorial for that... tnx in a million..

All version using the same icon size in carbide.ui.

Some icon using 60x60, 49x49, and soon. just oprn ur carbide.ui. see the exactly icon size.

thanks for the reply sir blue_ray about my query.. i'll do check it now, sorry im just a newbie in carbide, i imported a tpf from the theme studio 1.2 to carbide.ui 3.1.1 and displays all is right icons, etc. but when i install it to my n6630, icons are not good. they change to blurred and sizes are different..

That's because TS 1.2.1 icon is smaller than carbide.ui. if u just import from 1.2.1 version, icon will not working properly. u must remake a icon pack for using in carbide.ui.

i was trying to make a theme for n70 and i used a digital clock found in one of the supplied themes. it all looked good in carbide, but on my n70 under the digital clock there was a white line and i do not know what to do to make it go away. also i've noticed that the analogic clock is a little streched vertically.

how can i fix these errors? it it carbide or the N70?

i'm already change gallery folder icon but not this.

Can somebody guide me about how to creat 3rd party icon using carbide.ui 3.1?
I got the app's uid from FExplorer (option + tools + installed application) and the app's name from there (behind the uid). I reloaded the themes by close & open it again.
After reload the themes the icon will appear in the resource view: icon -> application icon. (bottom of the all icon view)
I saw the new icon and the mark also. But when i creat the .sis file & install it on mobile icon not changed in mobile why?

Did anyone of the S60v2 Themers (FP1 and FP2.6) try making themes on Carbide.UI v3.2? Nokias Page says that it supports V2 FP1 also. The problem with me is that my connection is too slow, and, downloading 147 MB will be a big problem. Hence, my I would like to request any theme master to please post the results for theme making for S60v2 using Carbide.UI v3.2. (If they use, by any chance.)

What u mean by themes creator sisx ? all processed themes will be in sis format. then u can convert to sisx using sisware or any editing tool.

Unpack the attached zip file and save the folder at a place you want. Don't change the place after you use the certificate in carbide. Best place is the carbide folder.

Yes it's not needed, only if you want. I used it never, because i had some problems with the earlier versions (old Theme Studio 3.0) if i used a password.

One question about skining the two standby hightlight around keypad and contact icons in 5800 and also the softkey
