Thanks for the feedback. This is the info that I got from the TomTom agents in South Africa.

"If your TomTom Mobile 5 makes use of an SD card to store your UK map, then I imagine you can just purchase the South African map on an SD card for the device. I am not exactly certain if the in-car navigation map is entirely compatible with your cellular one, but I will find this out and get back to you.


In terms of the purchase, you have two options; You can download and install the map of South Africa off TomTom Home (software that came with your device) onto a SD card. You may need to buy a larger capacity memory card, and then you can store local and international maps on the same SD memory card. Alternatively, you can buy
a separate SD card just with the South African map on it as an accessory. As yet, the South African map is only available when you purchase a TomTom device for the time being, however both of these options will be available within the coming months. I will keep you updated as to when the map will be available

Some more good news!

I found this, and it works really well. It is all reported speed cameras (both permanent pole cameras and those temporary mobile tripod camera positions) as well as reported danger areas in South Africa. Just follow the instructions inside the zip file. It has been specifically adapted for TomTom 6.

Updates since the 14 October 2007 POIs:
- Pole Cameras: 10 sites added
- Mobile Cameras: 121 potential sites added
- Hazardous Areas: 61 sites added

Remember: These are NOT to fool speed cameras/traps, but to encourage SAFE driving. We have enough accidents on our South African roads as it is.

Looks like you can't instal this till someone produces a meta.txt for this map.

I have 705.1513 with Southern_Africa-4.meta but no crack. Latest I have that is working is v680.1503 with latest poi and map fixes dated 19/01/2008

I have been beta testing for TomTom theie latest stuff.
v7.46 for OS. No need to hold breath. Quite frankly it is the worst beta, I have ever tested, and that includes for IBM, HSBC, Vodafone, O2, Barclays.

I have never encountered software for beta that crashes on boot before. No updates, traffic cams not functional, map errors that cannot be reported. It really sucks.

First time I lost patience with TomTom. I have 2 units in car. Beta version does not even know I am driving. I did 16 miles and it did not know! One unit is my 720, other is 520 using beta for test

All I can say is TomTom, please pull your finger out. And what makes things worse is that beta does not realise are updated files

Even the traffic cams are old and do not update

and for our beta testing, when it goes corporate, then give us the software free. booHoo
I have beta tested for TomTom since days of Psion 5 and StreetPlanner and RoutePlanner, most of their previous offerings
But the latest 7.46 with old map is really a backward step

Even the feedback form this time was abissmal

maybe TT is being run by cretins now. Well who lets backdoor for software open over 2 weeks for free? You want to say this was a strategic move? I think not

For me, the software runs really well, I just wish the maps were up to date

@the maverick, in spite of the many bugs and instability in the beta version, how's the graphical User Interface compared TomTom6 (mobile) and Garmin Mobile XT?

For me TomTom out perform the Garmin Mobile XT, but in terms of smooth graphical interface, the Garmin team did well.

There is NO blowfish code for v6 maps. They can very easily be keygenned without using someone elses Product Code Card.

It took me months to get tomtom 7 working on my ppc and thanks to rusigor this has now become a reality. :excited:

In the meantime I also purchased the latest southern africa map (720.1862) for my tomtom go510 but cannot get my ppc to read the map even by using tt7_keygen (might be needing something newer?) :confused:

If anyone is capable of cracking the new map please let me know. Btw, I'm no internet guru so I would need assistance to get the map added somewhere for public access.

From what I understand you need a blowfish key and you can only generate this from the map that is working on your go510. If I understand correctly connect your go510 to your pc and runmeformetakey.cmd that you will find in easyusetools. Select option 2 and then 1 and a blowfish key should be create somewhere should be a text file. The code generated can then be copied into the folder progs and file meta.txt where all the other meta codes are. You can now copy .pna and .meta file from the map into folder insertmeatfrommaphere. Run the crack using runmeforDCT and it should generate the correct meta file for you device ID.

Thanks to Markza01 I have a better understanding of blowfish keys and have downloaded 16.9 Easyusetools. I now need to get the TTGo510 connected to start using my new found knowledge. :good2:

Gumble, I have checked savefile.com and have registered but the max limit is 60MB and the compressed SA v720 map is 66MB. If I do not find larger space elsewhere I will subcribe for the premium diskspace over the weekend to upload the rar file.

I'll be posting should I need more help with the blowfish key, but for now I think it is safe to say you could have the latest v7 map by the week-end?

hey Marxman, it looks like the individual file limit is 60MB, so you can probably upload multiple smaller files.
you can use WINRAR to split an archive into 2 seperate pieces.
just install WINRAR, right click on the full SA map folder and choose "add to archive..." on the window that pops up, you should be on the "general" tab. at the bottom left you'll see "split to volumes,bytes" in this block put the following number "43729920" ( thats about 30mb displayed in bytes) then hit "OK" WINRAR should now start compressing the folder and should leave you with 2/3 archives of about 30mb each. you should be able to upload those no problems.then you just post the links and you are away!! LEGEND!!!

Yes it will if you follow the instructions in the stickies. If you do not, then you will have problems. TTUser's Easytools will make it easy.

For a start, you do not copy the rar files to your unit, you need to unrar them first with software such as winrar. Read all the help you can. The stickies are at the top of the forum listing. Suggest you do some reading before you start posting.

Copy the cab file to your memory card and launch from your device. The cab file will now install TT7.

NO The reason the files are split is to make them more compatible to storing on a server and in this case the server will not accept files larger than 60MB so the map had to be split into 2 rar files.
There will be at least 1 file between the two that has partial information in each rar. By selcting yes to all on extracting it takes the two rar files into account leaving you with complete folder of what it was like in the first place. If you only use part 2 you will not have a a complete map.

I hope you understand if not then try it your way then another way and then the proper way and you will learn from this.

To generate the blowfish key , you connect your tomtom to your PC.
It will attach as drive x: (can be e: , f: , ....)
. run RunMeforMetaKey.cmd from Easyusetools.
. option "1"
. option "1"
. enter "x" (the letter of the drive previously mounted for your tomtom)


Then you get the blowfish key in the file "meta.txt" created in the directory where you have "RunMeforMetaKey.cmd".


You also need to upload the map using rapidshare or megaupload .

Zen,

As far as I am aware you can only generate the required blowfish key if the map is working and installed on a tomtom device or other PNA. From what I understand from you is that you have the 730 map but you cannot activate it, is may understanding correct?
The next question is where did you get the map from, maybe a friend who has it working, in which case the blowfish key can be generated through his device as explained by TTMax.
If you downloaded the map then the key should already be available, post the link and we can all help.
Upload the map anyway and I'll see what I can do.

Which exactly HTC device do you have? I use HTC wizard with TT7910 and latest maps. For you - it's Southern_Africa_730.2001

hi, thanks for the quick reply. i am using HTC touch cruise (polaris). i have downloaded the 730 map but dont know how to load it. if i copy the maps to the sd card the tom tom software doesnt recognise it.i have got tomtom home but that also doesnt see the maps. i am using the 680maps at present. please assist.
