Just rename data.chk file in your Tomtom folder,Unrar & rename this one to data.chk & copy it to same folder.
You will then have voice warnings instead of bells/beeps etc.

Make sure you have Version 6.010/7640 otherwise it wont work.

At a guess, you must have one called data.chk on your Go, read the instructions on the page link I gave you, they give detailed info on how to do it.

Hi Neelix,

Something strange happended yesterday. Was hoping to use TT6 to direct me to my cousin's place in Essex. However, Tomtom refused to initialise / start up. It's the weirdest thing. After thinking about it the only thing that was different with it was this new file i downloaded, replacing data.chk with the revised one.

have you had this problem or come across it with anyone? Did i copy it wrongly? should i have kept the original data.chk file in the tomtom folder and had this new one?

Any assistance would be great.

Sounds like you have the wrong version of data.chk file,It must match your version of Tomtom otherwise it will just stop it working.
When replacing files it is a good idea to rename original file then if new file doesnt work you can delete new file & rename original back.
Just a thought, have you renamed new file correclly.

Re the files - have done that. have kept a copy of the tomtom stuff on my PC as well as on the memory card. So have managed to revert all back to original position. When i put the original data.chk file back TT6 loads up on phone with no probs whatsoever. Therefore the original data.chk file must be the correct one to use. Or did you mean the one i downloaded isn't the right one for my TT6 version?

If i go into the about screen, my phone says the following:

App. version 6.010 (7640)

Therefore this should be the right file.

Any more thoughts?

Have just realised what i have done wrong. According to the Pocketgps website you should do the following: '.....The next thing to do is to download the new PocketGPSWorld.com data.chk file. When prompted save it to disk. You can save it directly onto the SD card. This will save the file with the name (for example 2852_new.data.chk). Rename this file to data.chk and you are finished.'

I never renamed the file to data.chk and so TT6 probably wasn't able to locate the file it needed. Will try it out now and see the effect.

IT WORKED!!!!
