iain 2006, this is the error message which the pc is trying to boot from the network. In other words, it does not detect your hardisk. Try to check and detect in bios whether the correct hdd is detected. Unplug and plug in again the ide and power cable for the hdd. If still cannot then try to replace one hdd and also update bios. check all your cables inside the machine, make sure everything is plugged in properly, check in windows for hardware problems regarding your sound issue :)

Sound not working normally related to sound driver. Check in yr windows device manager list and see is yr multimedia sound driver installed properly..
