Yes, that is actually what I did.
I used a 72x72 icon and pasted into a 88x88 image.

Unfortunately this does not seem to help.

hm... That's strange, i never use png, all of my icons are in svg format, i tried making the icon smaller than 80 before, somehow it look blur.

Yupp... Still the same procedure my friend... First of all use the font remover to remove your fonts.. Do not restart your phone first.. Second then create a folder in your C:\System\fonts.. Then paste the gdr font in your newly created folder and then restart your phone.. It should work...:party:

I have problem, when i errase a theme and i want to instal it again it says that the instalation is impossible. At first time i installed them with out problems.

Mate almost all the new handsets with os 9.1 3rd edition r facings this problem....b it 5500 or n73 or n93 or n80.....may b it has something to do with the OS.....cz i dont think even the new firmwares r solving the problem.....i have seen many posts where ppl have upgraded their firmwares in there n80's but the problem still persists....hope nokia does something abt it.......only solution at present is to format the phone....cz nothin else seems to wrk....m facin the same prob on my n73:cry::cry:

It is, it happens and it happens that yesterday I was installing some themes in my cell of him but normal until that suddenly the themes that was placed in that moment in the cell breastplate and I hurtle a message that the n73 you disconnected of the port usb.

Try to install a themes of those that it erases previously in the memory of the telephone and neither leaves me it is as if the cell kept a registration of the whole topics that installs and that then it erases and doesn't allow to settle none that has installed and erased previously, the thing is where this that registration that somebody me of a sign please.

If somebody knows as paying this he/she would appreciate it.

you may want to try creating your own. You can download Nokia Theme Studio v3.0 or higher.

I have my long awaited E60 right now and I've upgraded the firmware with the Nokia Updater tool. At this moment I can installa and uninstall and install everything, themes, sis apps and java apps with no problem. It seems that Nokia finally sorted this problem out ;)

I have some problem lately with the new ts3.1. Im tryin to design my own own clock for my theme and this problem occur. As you know that there are 2 faces of the clock in TS3.1, they are 'face 1' and 'face 2'. I had past my desired clock picture onto 'face 1', and i did try to edit 'face 2' to make it invisible. somehow in the software, it works, but when i installed the theme in my n80, the hour and minute hand of the clock is not shown.

I have been bursting my brains out trying to figure a solution for this but unable to find one.

Please, can any of the theme masters help me in this.

HEEEEEELP!!! I dot know what this is but here`s the story!

A couple of days ago I installed a few themes made from a site called "ownskin". Until now all of the themes works properly though you sometimes cat find them when you want to delete them. You have to to it manually when the phone is connected to the computer.

Yesterday I installed a theme made from the site above. It says "installed" when I install it BUT I CAN`T FIND it in "themes"...??????? And when I try to install it a second time and NOW it says "can`t install". WHY??? I installed it before!!!! It didn`t work though but anyway...

The same thing has happend twice after this. I install a theme and can`t find it in the "themes"-menu and when I try to reinstall it says "can`t install"....!!!!

One time I even managed to install the wanted theme and it worked. But after some time the theme was GONE!!! I tried to install it over again but it didn`t work!!! "Can`t install"

Mate j had the some problem with my N93.Although j have the new OS updated, it seems the phone still has some bugs.When a new theme is installed j cant find it to the "applications manager" if j want to uninstall it.

strange, its never happen to my N93 but it does happen on my wife 3250.
usually i can find the installed theme on app. manager and unistalled it from there.

1- Go to (( Menu ))

2- Go to (( Tools ))

3- Then go to (( Application Manager ))

4- Then press on (( Options ))

5- Go to (( Setting ))

6- Then you find Software installion >===== Signed only
change it to >====== all

Finally you can instal any theme you want :win:

Hi from where do you select the mass storage option, Nokia PC suite??

Just plug your phone in and select mass storage from the pop up menu,once the cable is plugged in,then find your sd card in 'my computer'.

Then you can browse files on your sd card.

My problem is of a similar nature, I now know why I can't re-install some themes! I had installed some themes on my N73 and for some reason there was a slight glitch while it was connected to the pc via usb, when I attempted to access the themes, some of them had inexplicably disappeared! same thing has happened on my 3250 and it was not even connected to the computer there may be a glitch in the software that may cause the themes to disappear! Also I don't understand why when I install a theme and I don't like it, when I go to the application manager to uninstall it, the theme does not appear in the list! I then have to find it in the memory card in mass storage mode then delete it! But all that has been explained already! :lol:

Unfortunately I did allready everything you said to do but nothing. Those themes still doesn't install. "Certificate error".

I found the sollution to themes install. My phone is E70 but it should work with any 3rd edition. Go to time and date and put the year to 2005. After that you can install the themes.

Try another way. Restore factory settings and then go again to software installation and set "all" instead of "signed only". My cousin told me it worked on N73.

After using this forum for some time, I thought it was about time to give something back. So I started to make a theme for my brand new N80. But I get lots of errors when compiling and I cant make any good icons that fit the theme..

So I now turn to the great theme devs here, and wonder if someone can be so nice to complete the theme. Call it a Co Work project. Lots is allready done, now just some small things left.

for N-70 its firmware problem

the last firmware are solved many problem for N-70 UI like go-to background but for tab indicator its the same problem

The theme works when u dont inlcude icons, progress indikator and mediaplayers when making the sis.
The analoug clock is not nice - like the default Nokia better.

I think maybe something wrong with ur mifconverter.exe. did u try reinstall ur carbide.ui?

Or u can try replace it with this one.

If I'm not wrong, your phone can support Chinese language. The one that has bigger font than yours can support alphabet letters only, and you cannot use the bigger font to write Chinese. You have to trade off anyway: Chinese or non-Chinese, you can bring your phone to the Service Center to have your phone upgraded using Euro software.

Delete them with usb cable in mass storage mode.

ok..but how do i go abt doing that in the mass storage mood..seems like there r files in the sys folder but i cant identify which is which..as in they arent named after wad i have installed

Hope someone can help me with my theme problem. I installed a theme app "Theme Diy" on my n80, where I can create themes on my phone & for my phone. Since I installed that app, now my Themes' folder on my N80 doesn't even open. I tried to remove "theme diy' app but themes' folder remains nonexistent. The funny thing though, when i remove my mmc card, the pre-installed theme folder opens. Any thoughts or suggestions? I don't want to install themes onto my phone memory.

No need to reset phone.. u need card reader or connect your phone to pc suit in mass storage and go to \private\10207114\import\ there u can find all themes that u installed on card.. try to find the theme u wish to delete and if u cant delete'em all and reinstall the themes u like but do not install more than 4.. :idea:

Hi, any tips on an SVG editor? I was using Adobe Illustrator, but it's a bit hefty, so I'd like to try something lighter...
Also, does anyone have problems with scale? Sometimes things I edit in illustrator come out of scale, so they are imported incorrectly...

You can't. The only way is to create you own theme (or modify the original - if you can get the theme files).

How can i use the Default Nokia Theme as pre installed on the N80 as a base set for my themes. I dont like the one in Carbide.ui as i have to change the clock each time some of the other things dont look as good as the Default theme.

Guys i need help with a theme. i really like these 2 themes ive attached here but there are minor problems with them. Ive tried editing them, but carbide.ui wont open them. im requesting help from other great themers out there

Use RescoFotoViewer, it will fill the screen with picture that you want as wallpaper.

i've been trying to do that for the longest time is it possible u could walk me through, that is , give and example of how to do that cause each time i return to the standby screen the pic is smaller i want it to fit the screen.

I noticed that many themes when i install them and go to application manager or unistall a file it takes much time? Why this happen?

I am using CarbideUI to edit themes for N73. I have a question to experienced theme makers. Is it possible to edit the font colour of Cell Broadcast Messages? Its colour is always black and it is not possible to see black fonts on dark backgrounds.

i doubt it cause carbide doesn't lets you view / edit every aspect of the device but i can be wrong if someone else has a better answer

you can't open sis files to edit. you can only open .tdf files.
for the icon part, design any picture and resize to the correct icon resolution (check TS for the resolutions)

I think its the right section, at least i hope. Where can i find icons, clocks and something like these for theme making? I've searched in forum but found too few. Can someone help me? It is for ownskin by the way.

Dear bro/sis,

I was so excited in installing the various theme on my E60 phone. After installing about 20+ themes, I couldn't install further more as I was prompted with error (didn't noticed the syntax). After which, I realized some of the themes I previously installed was disapeared from my E60's Theme folder. I tried to reinstall those missing themes, but was not sucessful as I was prompted with "unable to install".

I missed some my favorate themes ... :((. Can anyone help please.

I dont think there is an install limit on themes. But you may have to delete some if they are causing you problems. You will need a cardreader or pc to do this.

I've tried to work in a program that wont be my friend. Not shure what I have done wrong, but the compiler crash everytime i trie to make a sis. Exept when I've only made a few changes - like background.

a well known and much discussed problem on most symbian 9.1 gadgets.
the following is the only method to reinstall themes on n73:

- Unsis the theme u want to reinstall using "unsis"
- enter mass storage mode on your n73.
- copy the unsised folder and paste it it on memory card.

the theme will be reinstalled and found in the themes-menu again.

I also have problem reinstalling 1 of my favourite theme when it suddenly disappear from my N73ME while i'm installing another theme. At the theme folder my favourite theme is gone. Wanna install it again but fail. Error message on the phone saying unable to install.

I have to say that I've been attempting to make myself a blank theme but couldn't install more than 2 versions of it. Maybe there is a copy-protection thing or something.

You can get unsis from this site,try to find it via the search.
You'll also need the themes that you want to install on your pc,i would also put the phone on to the nokia theme before accessing the mass storage mode as i sometimes get the same problem as you,when i change themes it's okay.

Just make sure every app or game is shut down,and nothing else but the stand by icon shows when holding down the menu button.
Then try the mass storage option,if this still dont work tyhen i dont know what else to suggest.

Software installation = All
Online certificate check = Off

Out of no where my N80 is acting weird and fails to install themes just gives error unable to install!

It was working fine, had no problems until yestarday. I installed a theme and after a little while when I checked the old themes just disappeared I tried to install them but it kept giving me that Unable to install error?

I even formatted the card and tried to reinstall the stuff it works fine while installing applications but fails to install custom themes no matter what I do.

...and i don't understand why the people want edit finished themes. The theme creators need much time for creating and you want to use the easiest way.

Make you own theme and you can edit what you want.

I know all about the hard work that theme creators are doing to make a theme and totally appreciate it. But the thing is that sometimes i need to change certain aspects of a theme that, in my opinion, do not match right, and for personal use of course.

Therefore i wrote you should create your own theme.

This will solved the problems for temporarely..
By the time certificate is come to an end, it will show EXpiRED Certf.
Use UNmake sis ver 2, copy the file folder to destination folder on Memory card, you can use the themes for GOOD.

I can transfer and view the file on my N73 .. but not able to select it as a screensaver????

My phone has the updated firmware, and a 3 screensaver, so why cant I change it???

You could use 3rd party apps, such as slide screen saver
Symbian OS 9.1 did not put the built in apps for screensavers, they just put the date and time for screensavers so that 3rd party could develop it for us to buy.

I found this two answers in another forum if you installed your themes on the memorycard:

I tried his and it worked, however i cant seem to install those same themes again once deleted from the memory card. This is the one and only way i know of how to delete themes that DO-NOT appear in the application manager and this method works everytime for me. Its a bit useless to anyone who does not have access to a computer thought. Unless you can borrow a friends. How to delete themes if you cant find them in app manager.

Connect your memory card to a card reader. Go to I:\private\10207114\import\

I = represents your card reader's drive, yours might be something else, for example K, dependent on how many drives you have on your pc.

Open the folder. View the folders to find the theme you wish to delete. Delete that folder.

Thanks mate, I did it and it worked, instead of the memory card reader i just connected it to the Nokia USB cable and selected Mass Storage mode or whatever it is....sweet!! No more unneccessary garbage on the phone now.

"RAR" is a packed file. You must unpack the file, in there is the file which you need.
You need a program called "WinRar" to unpack the .rar file on your pc.

i tried this trick for themes that i couldnt install and it worked but unfortunately im having problems with application like best jotter, best safe and best crypto. even if i move the date i still get the certificate error. pls i need help. i want to upgrade my application to the latest but i cant.

just use drag and drop. u also can use png icon.

In resolution 240 x 320 the definition of icons in menu is not ok

use only 88x88 pixel icon. in png or svg.

There is no screenshot needed. The user ask this also in another forum and became an answer from me.

His problem is:
He use png icons (transparent bitmaps), so some icons would be two times used, but in different sizes.
Example: As application Icon, also as menu icon, but you can only change one Icon. So you change the Application Icon for 240x320px in 60x60px and these Icon would also used as Menu Icon in 49x49px. Now looks these Icon a bit blurry/ transformed, because it's a resized 60x60px Icon.
I give him also the answer, that he should use svg Icons, then is there no problem in every size.

Try saving the image in a non-lossless format such as PNG or Bitmap. As i think carbide would resample/resize the image when it opens it.

You need a good editor as photoshop, fireworks, paintshop and so on.

For which screensize did you need the highlight, 240x320px?

Is that the normal or animated, because i can upload a transparent png file and you can use them per drag and drop.

i use photoshop.
it'd be gr8 if u could upload some normal transparent png (240x320)

Here 4 Grid Highlights, not the animated (could not be transparent).

2 with a white rounded border (35x35px and 76x78px), 2 with normal white border (35x35px and 76x78px)
The background is complete transparent.

I don't use photoshop, so don't know about the settings for a transparent background.
But as example:
If i use Illustrator (svg editor), then i can save/ export the file as png. If i do that, then i would asked about the settings and i can select png with transparent background. So it could be that you must do it also with photoshop.

Or here are some photoshop experts which know it exactly and can give a right answer.

Your phone is identified by the network via IMEI, so here is your answer.

apart from imei will there by any way for it to detect . Because the free data is by going thru to a website using WAP. After which it I was prompt hp is not supported.

I was trying to use some icons I customized, based on the iPhone icons. For that, I kept the S60 Chameleon icons, added a rounded rectangle, then an overlay semi-transparent layer which gives the shiny look. All that in SVG, using Inkscape (free, good, but sometimes doesn't do what we *really* want).

On carbide 3.2, the screens (and icons) look OK, no fault whatsoever. Problem is when I transfer the theme to my E-61 (plain, no i) the icons are stretched out and cropped.

If this has happened to anyone, and there is a solution...

You have 'animated icons' enabled? Because then use your mobile always the default, if the new theme they not use.

what the error message u get?

@johnnyj, make sure the themes are compatable and are signed (if they are needed)... I think there is a setting in the application manager for you to install all apps, not too sure, post a screenshot and i'll look into it further

Hmmm, i cant really help that much further, i dont have a OS9 phone unfortunately...

Only thing i can think of is any settings in the display/themes that are relevant to your problem

I have an interesting theming problem that you guys may be able to help me with. I've made a few themes just about entirely with SVG and they work perfectly on almost every phone. For some reason though, on the E90 they look perfect on the outer screen but the inner screen is completely blank.

Has anyone seen an error like this? I can't even imagine where to begin to solve this one!

as i said nokia 6120c does not have this option at all it doesnt support animated icons. i know which is this option i had nokia 3650, nokia 6630

I'm not sure about the 'animated icons', will check. But as the screenshots show, everything on Carbide *looks* ok, then on the actual phone, the icons are used, but distorted.

Files A-C are from Carbide, resolutions Portrait and Wide, and files Screenshot 01 and 02 are actual screenshots from my E-61. I don't have a 240x320 phone to try it on.

I have also posted the SIS files for the themes. n-Phone has the custom "iphoney" icons, and Phogg is the one with Chameleon Icons.

The themes are not finished, still have some problems, and should have some bugs. If anyone finds them (and likes the theme) please post them along with screenshots.

I don't have Illustrator, and Inkscape doesn't have a "layers" view as complex as the one you show.

But despite the opacity being 100%, I still have some degree of transparency that allows me to see what's underneath. And should it affect the phone display as it does, but not carbide?

Carbide shows often things much better as it looks then in the mobile.

I don't want to seem obnoxious or rude, but if you compare both buttons (mine is on the left, your version is on the right), there are subtle touches that are missing from the version you edited, like the gradients, that give it a flatter appearance.

I haven't tried your version with Carbide yet, but I feel it would be missing a lot if it couldn't handle my version.

I maked some layers hidden, not more. Used only 3 of the five new layers, therefore it looks not so as yours. I thought we will find out about the error, so it's a test.

Ok, was a chance. But i used always some of your layers, not all. So you should check it if the icon work without your editing (only the original icon without the glossy layer).
If the icon on your mobile looks so as the original then it has to do with the new layers.

I'll try the one you sent later... The "original icons" are the ones from the Chameleon theme in Carbide. I used them in the Phogg theme, which works perfectly. The problem *is* in my layers, I know that much, just don't know *what* is the problem :)

BTW, I installed the Illustrator tryout just to check how things would work here, and found something interesting, the program doesn't allow a gradient to have transparency (as far as I could find out). I was puzzled when you sent me the all-white picture, with just the outlines. Turns out in Inkscape I can add opacity values to a gradient, just like in photoshop. It *might* be what is putting Carbide off, but on the other hand, it interpreted the icons properly, unlike Illustrator.

I might as well stick with the official icons and forget the buttons...

damn i just found that nokia 6120c is OS 9.2 and i think thats why the application icon doesnt change. N73 is OS9.1 :S

I'm working on a theme, just trying it out, maybe i get better over time, but one problem that's making me nervous is that when I install the theme i made, i can choose it in Themes manager on my N95, but i can't find the theme in Application Manager, so I can't uninstall the theme.. I can't release a theme like that to the public, I need it to be 100% working.. so can anybody tell me why my theme does not appear in Application Manager ? how can i fix it ?

this is an answer given by Mr.G:

There is a bug with Symbian 3rd edition which after a few themes have been installed they disapear from the app manager and then cant be un-installed.
I've had instances where they disapear from the theme folder too,after i'd installed 10 themes the first one i installed deleted.

You can delete them by putting the phone in Mass Storage mode,you can do this by plugging the phone into your pc via the usb cable.
This lets you see all what is on your sd card but you must ensure your pc's explorer can view hidden folders.or you wont be able to see the folder in which the themes are in.
You'll find the themes in
E/private/10207114/import
You have to open every folder and then look in the skn folder to find the name of the theme as the folders are named by numbers and not the theme itself,once you know it's the theme you want to delete then you have to delete the whole folder including including the mbm,mif,ini and skn folders.
