I'm working on a theme, just trying it out, maybe i get better over time, but one problem that's making me nervous is that when I install the theme i made, i can choose it in Themes manager on my N95, but i can't find the theme in Application Manager, so I can't uninstall the theme.. I can't release a theme like that to the public, I need it to be 100% working.. so can anybody tell me why my theme does not appear in Application Manager ? how can i fix it ?

I hope i get fast answer so I can continue :) Many thanks in advance guys

If you installed the theme in the phonememory and you can't find it with the app manager, then helps only a hard format of your mobile, because some files are in hidden folders. Therefore is it better on 3rd edition devices to install on the memorycard.

Another thing I'd like to ask about, how can i make a proper Analogue Clock ? its really weird ( hard ) to edit in photoshop, how can i make the background of the frame transparent ( in adobe photoshop ) or should i make background same color of wallpaper ?

And i see in some themes that people make the Analogue clock bigger than default size, like for example i tried to use the clock from "teddymustopo" template , but in my theme it looked so bad, like Carbide forced it to be smaller, how can i increase the size ?

At the begin i create always clocks as png files and the mask. Problem for me was that the clocks had always errors on the mobile, scratches or white fields/ squares.
So the best solution is to use a svg clock, because no mask is needed and she looks/ works on every screenresolution nice.
Easy help to begin (so you don't need a svg editor): Use a svg clock from an existing theme (tdf file) per drag and drop. In the properties window you can see now the different colours of the clock. Now select a colour and change it and see how it looks. If you 'play' a bit with the colours you can see the clock looks very different to the original, means only to use/ change the colours make your clock looks as a new clock.
But for the future you should also work with a svg editor and learn to create svg images.

Another question, when I go in landscape mode in the theme I made, the Operator Logo background is all white, I don't find where I can change it in Carbide.. also the Softkeys in Landscape mode have a BLUE background, I can't even find there entries in Carbide too, please I need some guidance :)

I'm trying to change the Grid Highlight, i changed the graphics for it in Carbide, but when I apply theme, it keeps giving me the default nokia grid highlight ( ugly blue gradient square ) :O .. how can i change grid highlight graphics ? Thanks

using svg/png file format just drag and drop ur file to "gird highlight", not to "animated gird highlight". this animated highlight should be blank (don't put there any file)

Change both, also the animated grid highlight and check it again on your mobile.

I changed both and it worked, weird and confusing to be honest but I guess i'll get used to it :P why it didn't work with that white one ;( gah!

If you don't change the animated, then means the mobile you use without animation and use default, it's the same if you disable animated icons, the mobile use then also the default.


The first one is ' List text ' change the animated background also and check again. The background colour of the second should be -> Applications -> Settings -> Unfocused List Frame

I edited my text, read about the second thing again.

For the first i mean you should also change the animated background, it could be the same as with your other problems, not animated, default text colour. Check it.

As first use a clock from a default theme studio theme and 'play' a bit with the colours. The colours could be changed in properties window. The clock looks very different to the default if you change the colours.

If you want to create a new clock with illustrator then use also a default clock as first layer. Now you can see the size of the clock. As next you create a new second layer which you use for your new clock. So you can always see the border and other things from the default clock. To see only your clock make the first layer invisible (click on eye in the layer window). If you are finished then use ' save as ', as example to your desktop. Use svg if you want transparency effects on OS 9.1 devices (N73), works not on OS 9.2 (N95) on these devices has the clock no transparency. For these devices you must use svg tiny to save, but then has the clock errors on the OS 9.1.
So i use svg to save and the OS 9.2 devices have no transparency.

set the phone date to 7-8 months back then install the theme. set the date to current after completion.

Yes, just copy ur extracted themes folder into private/10207114/import folder.

hi all
well i updated my n95 to the latest v20 firmware after i changed my codes to euro1 codes to update the phone to the latest,,but i had a problem after all that which is each time i start up the phone (even swtiching off for 3 seconds),it asks me again to enter the time and date!!!!!!????!!!!!!!
i formatted again but its still there!!!!!
please if anyone can reply helping me for anything i can do to avoid that problem ,i'd be really thankful...
or even may be if i downgrade to V12 this problem might disappear???

Im using N70 Music Edition and having a very difficult time finding themes that can really match my phone,either the icons r not changing or only half of them is changing.Even though the uploader says its for N70.Im tired of trying it now,lol.Any help pls?

The problem is that the mobiles have a different interpretation of the graphics. On the N95 looks some things not so as on the N73, so i can't say what are the better solution to save, svg or svg tiny. some things on the N95 works better if you save as svg tiny, but then would the file rasterized and looks for my taste not so fine.

To use full transparency, select a calling background in carbide, open in vector editor, make the layer hidden (mark the eye) and save, for half transparency the same way, but you create a new layer, as example black, transparency on 50% (or what you want) and save. I saved them as svg.
Now you can use the background file per copy and paste for all other backgrounds.

This is the way to copy and paste themes on to your memory crad and it bypasses the cert issues too.


A ) Download Unsis for 3rd Edition
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
B ) Take the usb cable for connecting phone to pc

1. Install and open unsis
2. choose "Open SIS" on bottom left
3. choose the theme you want to reinstall
4. click on "Extract"
5. few seconds (some times more ) it'll be "Completed"
6. you can now close the program
7. go into installation folder (usually C:/Unsis)
8. there should be e a folder called "Temp"
9. inside you should find "private"-> "10207114"-> "import"-> "some folders (just one ifyou extracted just one theme) with different names (numbers and letters in most of cases)"
10. go inside the folders and search the one of the theme you are intereted, there'll be 4 files:
a ) NameOfTheFolder.ini
b ) NameOfTheTheme.mbm
c ) NameOfTheTheme.mif
d ) NameOfTheTheme.skn
11. ok? now, don't close this folder and connect phone to pc using the usb cable
12. choose "mass storage" or ''data transfer''. Note: you can also insert memory card into a memosy card reader
13. find the folder called "private" . If you don't see it, you need to choose the visualization of hidden files and folders
14. in the "private" fodler, find "10207114" folder and then "import" folder
15. in "import" there are your themes, here you should find the themes you installed into memory card
16. don't close this folder and come back to the folder where you exctracted the theme with unsis
17. just click "back" so you can see your folder selected into the "import" folder
18. choose all the folder and select "copy"
19. go back to the "import" folder into the memory
20. right click and make "paste"
21. here we are, now your theme is in the memory.

Open carbide and the theme. Now select the image what you want, so it will shown in the big preview window of carbide, check that no things are marked at the preview.
Now press the 'print key' on your keyboard. Open your bitmap editor -> file new -> ok -> paste. You should see now the screenshot from your desktop with the opened carbide and the preview. Now select the image with the marquee tool, hard border -> 240x320px -> copy -> new file -> paste.
Make the backgroundlayer of the new file bigger if you want to show more as one image as preview.

Can you upload the sis file here?

Does u use carbide.ui 3.2 with S60 Fp2 graphic. try use Fp1 graphic.

The sis file is 2kb and the tdf file 8kb. I opened the tdf in carbide, there is nothing changed, the theme looks as a default S60 theme from carbide 3.1 (blue icons).
Need explication.....to help

I think u must be using carbide 3.1.1. i also facing this problem when using 3.1.1.

In both, carbide 3.1.1 and 3.2 has the file only the base graphics.

...and a bit confused, carbide 3.2 says it's a S60 2nd FP2 file.

Hi there, if someone knows why the white background in the dialog box isn't of the theme's color as it should be, I'd like to know it too. What seems weird, is that on a 6120 phone, the theme looks as it should..

You have more as 10 themes installed on your mobile? If your themes on the memorycard installed then read this.

There is a bug with Symbian 3rd edition which after a few themes have been installed they disapear from the app manager and then cant be un-installed.
I've had instances where they disapear from the theme folder too,after i'd installed 10 themes the first one i installed deleted.

You can delete them by putting the phone in Mass Storage mode,you can do this by plugging the phone into your pc via the usb cable.
This lets you see all what is on your sd card but you must ensure your pc's explorer can view hidden folders.or you wont be able to see the folder in which the themes are in.
You'll find the themes in
E/private/10207114/import
You have to open every folder and then look in the skn folder to find the name of the theme as the folders are named by numbers and not the theme itself,once you know it's the theme you want to delete then you have to delete the whole folder including including the mbm,mif,ini and skn folders.

hi, for the first 7 days of life of my n95 8gb i had installed and deleted themes from the themes list pressing the "c" botton or pressing option and then "delete" (also like the guide say). now, suddenly , i can delete themes only by the application manager.
i have reset my phone in many ways (*#code* and also the three bottons mode) but the problem is still here and i'm tring to see if is a theme problem installing many themes but the situation is the same...i can't belive that before it worked and no more...
please.

Can tell me the difference between QVGA / SVG / BMP themes? Which is best one for N73. How can I play animated theme on N73? Plz...can anyone clarify

QVGA is the newer Nokia's phone resolution: 240x320 pixel aka 3 : 4 length. (Old Nokia's 176x208 px). If u notice, it's the same as photo's or camera's mega pixel resolution.

So now u know that ur N73 is QVGA phone bcoz it has 240x320 pixel screen. Phone like N80 is not QVGA bcoz it has 352x416 px (the same ratio as old Nokia's).

When creating a theme (eg. using Carbide UI), for the background we can use SVG (scalable vector graphic) or BMP (bitmap graphic). See how scalable vector graphic look in portrait and landscape mode below...

Compare with this 240x320 BMP image. When in landscape (320x240 px) mode it's pixelated. So when u make a theme of BMP image, it's only for one size, eg. 240x320 (QVGA screen). U must make a different size BMP image for other screens. Sure it needs a lot of efforts. Meanwhile, with single file of SVG image u can create just one theme that compatible for all phone's screen size (even compatible with widescreen E90!).

Note: Vector image such as .ai, .eps, .cdr can be converted into SVG image. But BMP, JPeg, PNG, etc can't.

I think n73 did not support animated icon...It only support animated highlights...

Only newer model support those feature...

Can u give me the link to the animated icon theme? I'd like to test it...

ok..here's sumthing from an N81 user, and i wouldn't know whether this has been brought up before...apparently all theme makers when substituting default icons to their respective theme's icons missed out on 1 particular icon.It's called the Music icon in the main menu.Now this icon seems to be the only one not changed whenever i apply any of the themes i find across the board.And funnily enough you can't move this icon into other folders, you can only move it around in the main menu.Now are the theme makers in this forum aware of this?thanx!!

If the theme creator has all icons changed which in carbide available and these menu icon on your mobile would shown as default if you use a theme with changed icons, then could it be that the icon are a newer and not available in carbide.

ok cool, but what i don't get is that how come this particular Music icon in the menu can't be moved to a different folder like the other icons?it can be renamed though..

guys, have you seen the option of animation in idle/active background? have you used it? we can change the background as time passes...we could probably change the brightness of the background according to the daytime.

Yes, but only some feature on this tools. u can't use multi image for ur background.

yes I noticed too...but this is better from nothing i guess. I tried to use something and it worked but not as it looked on carbide and I didn't manage to handle the speed/time of animation, like nothing was changed.

Nokia mobiles don't use the wallpaper in fullscreen. The wallapersize for mobiles with 240x320px as screenreolution is 240x235px.
Therefore use/want many people transparent wallpaper (with a logo or any other image)

you need to use nokia software updated. its on the nokia website. IT ill only update if the firmware upgrade is available for your region.

Mainly bug fixes and some speedups :) just be sure to back up your phone to the memory card or pc suite before you update as you loose all your settings, contacts and messages.

I hope this question hasn't been answered a hundred times before, but I couldn't find the answer by using the search function (maybe I'm too stupid):
When installing themes on my N95 8GB ist says the size of the install is about 3-5 Megabyte (the screen where it asks me where I want to install - Phone memory or Flash Memory), however, when I look at the folder where the theme is stored (connect the phone via mass storage mode and look in private\10207114\import\xyz) the corresponding theme size is significantly smaller... I was wondering when I uninstall themes that do not appear in application manager by just deleting the files in the import folder, does it leave a certain "rest" on my phone? Thx in advance

i just did upgrade my phone, i'm just not so sure if it is right?
i mean i follow the instruction, after the upgrade is complete my phone shut off while still plug in to the computer, then the upgrade said that there is something wrong with the battery or i must reinstall the battery, i did'nt got the exact word it says and below there is a message that i need to retry or cancel, i'll just choose cancelled, and exit the program, i unplug my phone from pc, still dead, and i open it, come to surprise that it ask me a passcode for my mmc? and i'm sure i dont have any passcode, and i check my version it says "V20.0.015" then everything looks different from before, from standby mode there's an additional item before calendar entry , "search : Internet and my content", from menu theres a new icon "music" " search" " ngage and video center,

theres always a message asking for the passcode, what i did is i reformat the mmc, after that it seem to be ok,

Ive been looking EVERYWHERE for the past week, but I cant find the info.
Can someone pelase tell me how to change/replace the icon of N95 symbian games?
I mean for the ones already installed on the phone! Is that even possible?
I know there is Icon Wizard and a lot of threads about this, but PLEASE mind that those are all for OS8 or something and as far as I know different rules apply for N95. For example there should be .aif or . svg files somewhere and also some system codes for different applications, but there isnt any of these on my N95 I used y-browser and nothing like that anywhere on either drive on the phone so Please help!

I think you have to much themes installed, so not all would be shown. It should be a bug on 3rd edition devices, you must uninstall some themes, because only 10 or some more would be shown.
To uninstall themes which can't delete with the app manager read this:

There is a bug with Symbian 3rd edition which after a few themes have been installed they disapear from the app manager and then cant be un-installed.
I've had instances where they disapear from the theme folder too,after i'd installed 10 themes the first one i installed deleted.

You can delete them by putting the phone in Mass Storage mode,you can do this by plugging the phone into your pc via the usb cable.
This lets you see all what is on your sd card but you must ensure your pc's explorer can view hidden folders.or you wont be able to see the folder in which the themes are in.
You'll find the themes in
E/private/10207114/import
You have to open every folder and then look in the skn folder to find the name of the theme as the folders are named by numbers and not the theme itself,once you know it's the theme you want to delete then you have to delete the whole folder including including the mbm,mif,ini and skn folders.

1. this was cut/copy/paste highlight colour. try change to other colour.
2. Because ur background was black, so ur navipane item colour should be change to other colour to make it visible. and also change ur battery and signal style to other colour.

and for third image. i can said exactly the problem. maybe error in packing process. try rebuild sis files. if this can't help. share ur working files here. so i can try check for u.

I have made a new theme using Cabide 3.2 and i have signed it using my developer certificate that is tied to my IMEI.

u need a software called screenshot , search in the os9.1/9.2 applications thread n u'll find many.

when u apply the theme in ur fone then u can take n screenshot of ur screen n there u have the preview.

and as for the 1st question i too am a dull guy coz i dont have a 0 zero idea abt signing.

Think there is an option in Carbide called "Key Pairing" in the "tools" bit at the top... There you can make a key. Once created, Carbide will automatically sign the sis file. You fortuantely dont need symbian signed for it...

I can't open your tpf file in carbide. Which theme studio do you use?

All versions of carbide, also the old theme studio 3.0 say unable to open the file.

As first about the file size:

I think it's correct, because there isn't so much changed and you use the default Icons. Check now the sis file in the attached zip.

If this theme work for you, then change on the top (in carbide) in the selection window (screensize) from 320x240V2 to 320x240. I don't know for which mobiles are the V2 option, but it could be that therefore comes the error.
Next problem would be if the theme works for you, that the image looks pixelated if you want to use it on an E90 (stand as mobile in your profile), because you use bitmaps in your theme.

The filesize should be the same, i think something going wrong in carbide...
You should try the 3.2 version, you must not uninstall the 3.1 version. If 3.2 installed then you can also open the tdf file created in 3.1.

Right click the image in the components window, and select edit/animate, right click the image in the layers window and 'add a layer', then right click the layer 1 and 'clear layer' (not delete), now you will have two layers (both blank), then close this area edit, it will ask if you want to save, say yes, and then repeat this for the other two navi images if you also want to make them transparent.

I was starting to modify one of original Carbide theme, but now when I tested in my N95 8GB there is a white line in the left edge(screenshot, but hard to see it)... What could be the problem? Is there anything I could do right in the carbide to remove the white line or do I just have to upload completely different/new background? I don`t know if the white line appears in other phones, but of course it has to work in 8GB also. ;) Thank you, if someone could solve this problem.

Does u using mask for this caller area? if yes, try check ur mask option.

Try the svg in the attachment per drag and drop, should work for all calling backgrounds. You can change the colours directly in carbide in the layer window.

None worked for me. Not even ST's unedited SVG Image. I still get that ugly box. Theres no mask to the image indicated in Carbide. :(

How can I change the color inside of the highlight of this place(left screenshot) like it is in the right screenshot. And second question is about the "shadow" in the 3rd screenshot where is the small alarm, message, keylock etc. indicators. How can I remove it completely? I think I have search every place, but I just havent found the option to change those. Thank you, if someone please could tell me..

If u use carbide 3.2 change it on Hightlight color (list Text)

Go to Areas > Idle Main Area Background > Status Indicator Background.

Now, go to component store, and select the Status Indicator Background from the "Colourful Day" Theme. Its fully transparent.

For the 1st problem, it gets successfully changed in Carbide [As pointed out by 3com above], but, not on my 9.2 phone. Maybe again a Carbide bug?

BTW, I still dont understand how I can get transparent call windows on OS9.2. Can someone elaborate a bit further??

Yes, I know it was for the first(?) question and I understud what he/she ment and it did work. But I mean that I still havent found how to change the color of the text what is in the screenshot. It also appears in couple of other places example in contacts, settings, general settings, themes etc. but some places it appears like it should be(black text inside of the (listbox?)).

For me, the text does change on Carbide, but, it doesnt on my phone. [9.2]. :(

Not all colour will working properly on 9.2 phone. Maybe we still need new version carbide.

It depends on the area... I think on Carbide.ui v3.1, you cannot change the colour of the text in the Phonebook - Which you should be able to. Also, it may not be compatable with OS9 - Strange, as i've only seen 1 thing that was, and i cant actually remember what.

OS 9.1. But I know I have seen in some themes, that the color has been different in the box than the other text in the same window.... I don`t know... I will check out again...

Maybe you just should change your theme to s60 3rd fp1(in carbide), then it should work. It did help for me. Doesn`t it still should work on all s60 3rd devices?

Read the previous page mate. You may be right when you say that it isnt upgraded often. Nokia promised an E90 plugin long back, but, it still isnt there. Moreover, as you say, no support for N95 8GB MM Menu, + more bugs on OS9.2 Devices [No colour changes on several items, no transparency effects by default on many items etc etc]

No one knows when it will be updated. So, you cant do anything other than wait. :(

I want to make my own themes, but lack of compatibility for N95. I guess i'll have to wait, but by the time theres support i'll have a new model LOL :/

i've installed some themes in my n82 that were not compatible although i could open them and aplly them but afterwards i realised that the phone crashes....
the problem is tha i can see these themes in the themes category in the phone but cannot delete them, "c" does nothing
and through apps management i cant see them...is thre any solution? they are stucked in the memory card....
or do you know the root folder in order to delete them with x-plore?

You have to open every folder and then look in the skn folder to find the name of the theme as the folders are named by numbers and not the theme itself,once you know it's the theme you want to delete then you have to delete the whole folder including including the mbm,mif,ini and skn folders.

Sorry to ride on this topic. What about those folders that are in "E/private/10207114/import" which totally do not have any files in them, can i delete the folders?

Hack your firmware to allow all files, though that will format anyway. You can try reinstalling the themes and see if you can remove that way, so remove all the themes you can and install and reinstall the rest

U can't make this thin status pane transparent. all u can do just cut from upper ur image 240x27 pixel and put as ur thin status pane.

My "Office" and "Help" icons in the main menu won't change when I select a different theme that has icons for them. The rest are OK. What's wrong?

Its a Carbide bug. Theres no option to change these icons in Carbide, thats why, they wont change no matter what theme you choose.

For open a 3rd themes u must have themes tdf files. but if only sis files u have, u can't edit it.
use ur search button and u can find some tdf files posted before.

I was have the same problem in my N82 after upgrade firmware. Make sure to your product code is correct, then run NSU & upgrade phone soft. In my case this problem gone after 3 update with NSU with the same firmware version!!! But now is ok. Try that.

i have installed astod and asmob themes on my 6120c (animated themes), n now i want to uninstall one of those themes but i couldn't find the themes on the app manager menu. n i can't remove directly from the themes menu. do i have to delete the folder of the theme manually?? coz i don't know which folder belongs to the theme. can some1 pliz help me...

You don`t wanna install in your phone memory? Have you set all the permissions to install all the software to your phone?

I managed to install Black 2 by Taieb on my mem card but not the two Giambi themes.
So I wonder what is the problem? Should a reboot perhaps help?

I found the solution :excited:

I opened the tdf file with notepad then searched for the word 'duration', it appeared to be in the screensaver element, so I simply removed the whole element text and attribuits (<element>deleted all text here<\element> ) then saved and restarted & opened, worked like magic :good2:

1st if you don't have an M95 mobile, you need to install this app, "RDAccelerometer" and you can get here [Only registered and activated users can see links] , after you need to install the app "Rotate Me" and you can get it here, [Only registered and activated users can see links] , but before that, because is an individual app for all of us from Simbyan and Nokia requirements, i suggest you read this thread very carefully [Only registered and activated users can see links] .

after you see the previous link, take a look of this thread because you gonna need to upload this program to get and validate your certicate to install the "Rotate Me" [Only registered and activated users can see links] .

Problem solved in popup: it's a n82 firmware issue, solved with firmware released today v20.0.062 (now the popup it's skinned and there are perfect colour matching with your preview: before colours are slightly different)

Normally works a svg icon per drag and drop, but i know some icons don't work (become an error in illustrator if i want to open the icon). Maybe you can upload an icon, so anyone can check it.

I have also a regular work, so is sometimes a bit time needed for an answer.

I checked the clock icon. Opened with illustrator, resized and saved as svg icon. The icon has in ~60x60px 1,1mb as file size. The image has so much layers for all details, therefore so big and i think that is also the problem that it looks so in carbide.
I have svg icons where i think they are to big (200kb), but 1100kb for one icon.....
The icon works as tiny svg, but then is he a bitmap and looks not nice. So i think you can't use these images as icons.

Hmmm... That be more easy if you type your phone model. I think you hv N81 or N82, right? You problem causes that theme you hv is not for s60v3 fp1. I got problem like you few weeks ago when install some theme, but in my case that look worst! Menu key dont work, no baterry/network bars - totaly crap! All this adventure ends with hard format phone. :forsaken:
