Help .. I just notice that my default font for my N70 is different from what i see in the reviews on the web .. Look at the right n left side fonts .. There big compared to mine .. Why is this so ? Someone pls help me ..

If ur interested in helping me, plz do this:
Using a file browser go to Z:\System\Install\
Copy ALL files existing there that have in the name: "SKIN" / "SVG"
to another folder and change their properties removing "read-only"!
Transfer the files to ur PC and pack them in a zip or rar and post them here!
This is only step 1...
I will analyse those files and then ask u for some more files...

Yeah, you're right. But structure of the theme in N70,90 is slightly different from older phones. I'm doubt if it's possible, to make such thing...

Do you have the original post that the download link is from? I'm looking for the chinese fonts for my european language phone. My GF's N70 is dual language (english/chinese) and I like those fonts better. I'll see if these work!

I know those tricks but not work

In my old 6600... i could choose any icons from any theme i had, and use it with any other theme. Really liked the feature... i cant even REname my themes in my N70 stright from the factory.

4.destop will creat a new system file
5.open it,u will see a folder name skin

Does anybody know if it's possible to use TTF fonts on the N70 instead of GDR?
I am looking on some of the themes posted here and I can see that on some of them the font is smooth, like windows smoothing option, is it at all possible? I know that the N70 has already preinstalled TTF fonts, and some signs use TTF and font smoothing. Please help

Hello can someone help me to explain how to install the theme's into an N91 phone. When i transfer the file to my phone in Nokia PC Suite to my hard drive then i try to open it says installation of the theme.sis is not supported? Can someone help me pls?

actually .gdr fonts are using TTF.. is converts the fonts into .gdr

.gdr is a compilation of many fonts (TTF) so when your talking about ttf its only 1 font. but .gdr its a compilation of fonts... hope that helps you.

I saw that the newer phones have font smoothing, this is because the system is using ttf fonts not gdr fonts (that's what I presume). On some pics I can see that the themes made for the N70 ie. have font smoothing. Is there a way for the N70 not to use gdr fonts but one single ttf font which is scallable and can be made smooth. Some applications for the N70 and other S60 phones use ttf fonts (Papyrus) and they are smoothed within the application. What I am looking for is a plugin(patch) for the N70 which will allow the use of TTF fonts on the system itself allowing it also to be antialiased, the phone display will look great in my opinion.

you could be trying to load a theme on your N91 which isnt supported by the phone's operating system. just make sure that the theme you are installing is compatible with your phone's operating system.

recently i upgraded my N80's firmware in NPC and change my miniSD(found faulty)to a new 512Mb but i'm surprise to find out i can't reinstall all themes previouly stored in old miniSD,i tried some fresh themes and they worked ok,can someone advice...

is something to do with there being 2x copy of file. Both must be removed before you can reinstall theme. Think info on greysource n80 theme thread last few pages. Take a look there for more info please.

me too dude, just switch to N70 after using N6600. seems like N70 is worse than N6600 in this matter. The CPU is higher but to me N6600 is more functional than N70.it's so sad but true.

anybody have any idea how to delete themes that are not appeared on the app. mgr. because i installed one theme that screw things up ( i can't access the theme anymore after i installed it)

thank u for the fast replay, Blazers, but the file explorer that are available for the os 9.1 right now is SExpolorer ( which is not really good) i'm using E 61, i could open the E but can't go to the sys it says unable to excute file for security reasons.

i m also facing the same problem in my 3250 many of my themes dont appear in app.manager. and also strangely some applications appeared in app manager but they disappeared from menu/my own folder

You can also try using the nokia data cable and set your phone to data transfer mode. For my N80, I can then find in a private folder, all those theme that has disappeared from the app manager but still available in the theme selection. As long as I delete these files, the theme selection will then not display this theme that is deleted. The folder path is full of weird numbers. For example my theme can be found in the following path: I:\Private\10207114\import\7c0e446e3d74f54e. It will contain a .ini file, a .mbm file, a .mif file and a .skn file, as long as you delete all these file and you have removed the theme.

I also found out that if you install into your memory card, you can regain some memory form your phone memory by going to file manager, select phone memory, choose Installed files folder and delete the .sis file there. Your theme willl still be available.

It's alright TaI, i guess NieFeng explained it very clear though. Well, i used the sysmbian before, but this new os is a bit different and also no explorer available yet. btw i'm using the E61, is it the same firmware with the 3250?

Don't about firmware upgrade for E61..but u should chk the firmware section :)

Or reinstall the pc suite with the lastest version (6.8) . Last time i also have this kind of problem (actually my bro's N70). At that time, i format my pc to make sure it can work again..

you can use a card reader where you just insert your mmc into the mmc port :) thus, you can transfer theme files which you decide easily :)

I am glad you find my explanation useful. Actually the 2 methods all depend on what you have. If you have a memory card reader, by all means you should use it. Coz using a neutral memory card reader, you will know that you should be seeing everything that's on your card. The "set to data transfer mode" method would be suitable for those who are without a memory card reader (like me!) But what you see using this method might be limited by Nokia.

Is there a way to download the "Nokia" theme from the N80? I like the settings of the theme and the original icons and just wanted to change the background image.

Did u try to upgrade ur phone to latest firmware mate :) this will fix the apps that have been installed in apps manager...u can see the list of the installed application if u upgrade ur phone firmware.br

its not true that when you upgrade, that issue will be solved, i upgraded my firware at our nokia shop here, and some themes still disappear or still does not show in aplication manager whenever i install my themes in my 1gb mini sd card. but if i install it in the phone memory then things are ok

usually, a firmware upgrade fixes bugs... not add more bugs :axe:

nway, i suggest that you uninstall the problem theme first... restart ur phone (am not sure if restarting has any effect... but heck, there's no harm in doing so either, so...)

then, send over the theme sis to your phone again and re-install...

Yes, I think it is a bug. If you install your theme in your memory card, some of it will disappear. But you should be able to see it in your app manager right?

yes with the new N70 fw 5.0 they removed white theme and they used while changeing the themes :( :(

i know that my english language is not the best... i try to explain better...i want the white theme back.this theme is the theme that is basically all over the 60 series(n-gage,6600,3650,3660,6630 etc.),wich have the blank background whit blue stripe on the top of the screen.....i hope it's clear..where do i take this theme?..and like taasadi reply,we can see this white theme when we do the theme changin':oops: :lol: :partyman:

As U can see, the image is a bit odd, the two white lines at the top and at the bottom disappeared. I know that the TS resizes the image but so drasticly?I didnt have that problem in TS 1.2 .

I use paint.net and inkscape for vectors,
btw. when I make the highlight in .svg format the theme studio does not want to import it :(

Sorry for the late reply, but i guess the simple way is using the card reader but u have to buy the extender or the housing for the mini sd to be able being read by the card reader as the sd card since nokia did not provide it, i did buy another mini sd with the housing. I try using the data cable, data transfer method but doesn't work.

yeah my E60 is facing this problem. I was very excited with my new phone and I went on installing theme after theme after theme but now I see some of the older themes are gone. how do I use them again now?

maybe some themes that said application not compatible with phone but still got installed do not show up later?

I have download Themes studio last version from forum.nokia, and I have tried to created theme for my N80. when everthing done... I click on Nokia 3rd edition for make it to theme for my N80. but everytime I click on it seem it not working... but when i use for nokia ver2, it can creat theme... And I have check the manual guide they said that I need certificated to do it... but I don't know how to make it... I have tried too many time... so would you please give me a hint to do it...

This damn ts 3.0 drives me mad!
The problem is whatever I do this app does not want to include certain things in a theme I create.
The things are::
- tabs
- volume indicators
- go to screen
they are present in c/program files/s60 theme studio/data/skinsdir/my theme
I dunno what is going on now but I cannot make any themes due to this.
Any solutions for it?

- use "SISTool" or "unmakesis" for extraxt MBM file
and
- use MBMWizard for extract images

- use the images extracted in theme studio

- are you download your TS.3.0 after this date or b4 23-May-06 ?
- b4 you install TS.3.0 are uninstall+delete directory of ts.v1.21 or ts.v2.0

I have downloaded the theme studio 3.0 in july, 3 weeks ago
and yes, the previous version of theme studio ( 1.2.1 ) was uninstalled and all its folders were deleted.

There is a problem only with N70/90. But original Nokia themes are Ok. I think that problem lies in configuration files of TS3.

well, definitely ther eare many bugs in Theme Studio 3.0, I will wait till nokia will fix it, in the mean time I am going to make themes with the old TS 1.2 as they are compatible with n70 and work great :P

work fine for me i use it for extract the icons & read my post its only for *.SIS not for *.SISx

for me i have solved from thi problem but i have many other problem of compatibilty for JAVA run time inclu in TS.3 or from sun web site and the problem with photoshop v9.0 or v9.0.1 the TS.v3.0 have many many others problem .
i agree with malakian i have uninstalled v3.0 today and use v1.2.1

Actually I didn't have any problems in extracting the scalable themes using unmakesis,but neither mbmwizard nor mbmtool is able to extract the mbm file after that...

After considering the pros and cons of using TS 3.0 I decided to theme in TS 3.0 again.Why?
1. I can change all the colours
2. I can change the call windows
3. I will be able to use my themes after I changing the n70 to sth more modern
That three things are more important to me than volume indicators, I can live with this bug, and the go to screen, I dont use it anyway :D

i dont know how about you guys.
but for me i just restart my 3250 and then go app manager you will be able to delete the imported theme.

About the original theme here is the way to delete it :

connect the phone with your com under DATA TRANFER and then go to the SD

go to the tool bar of the window click on tools then go to folder options go view in which you find the SHOW HIDDEN FILES click on it and apply.
you will be able to see the hidden folder include private folder. Slowly open and search for the correct folder which contains themes files.

my folder name is "10207114" maybe yours too.

this method can also be used to delete unwanted items from the miniSD which cannot be fully removed by using APP MANAGER.

If I'm not mistaken, to delete previous installed theme, simply run theme app, highlight the unwanted theme, press 'c' button, select 'yes'. Exception for default theme. btw I do this in 6600. Others I dunno

you can check for the original theme file on the rom driver {Z}
using any file manager If not there you shouuld go back to nokia center & report the bug & get another version of hthe firmware.>>>> hope you find the answer :cry:

well guys, i am using e61 and IT WORKS as follows:

go to system -> program manager (the icon with the 4 blue cubes). it will take some seconds untill you will see ALL the files which can be found on telephone memory AND on minisd card. select the theme you do not want and delete it. just as simple as deleting can be. i have tried all the suggestions mentioned here in the thread and it is - for me - useless. you do not need an other file explorer. and if so, there is one in the program "office" (word, excel, powerpoint including screen shot manager and a file explorer), which is preinstalled in the e61. if you do not have this "office" program, you can download it from the nokia hp FOR FREE.

i had the same problem before, i installed themes in the included 128Mb miniSd of the N80 then, i didn't delete those themes before changing to a 2Gb miniSD...

the solution i found was to insert back the old 128Mb then, delete the themes via the app manager... then, change to the new miniSD and re-install those themes...

i guess somehow, even if u install themes on the memory card, there's some information that is written somewhere in the phone mem and that causes it not to be installed in another miniSD...

Yup, it works that way, i manage to delete the themes via the app mgr, but still can't install the same theme in two different sd cards unless u rename it.

For the background grid u can change it in highlights : Grid highlight which u have to make your own the size is 111 x 95 pixels and as for the text u can change it in colour setting, for the white fonts when u highlight the item u can change it under highlighted item : grid text and as for the unhighlighted item u can change it under : main area item - unfocused area title text.

why..? (if it is a firmware problem) do some themes work on the n91 and some dont..what is actually causing the problem for the non working themes to reset themselves at the main screen..is it a size/resolution problem at the main screen...is there a way to open the working themes and see what the settings are that actually make them work...? i have been through most the themes and there are about 20 that work so there must be something to do to put it right...

Everything is okay with the themes !!!
The problem is in the phone's firmware !!! If it's older than 05-05-06 than u'll have probs with the themes ! Change the firmware version !!!
I had the same problem when i got N91,no i changed it for E70(great phone) !!!

but WHY are some working and others not...why is the firmware letting some work...this is what we are trying to find out...!

The themes that work are made by Nokia and Nokia's let's say partners !
As i know the themes that work on N91 are - HipHop,Techno,Rock,and some others! Themes are made with another tool,not theme studio for example,but with a tool that is used to make ,,default themes,, in Nokia phones wich is not ,,for sale,, and it is not to be found somewhere in the internet ! That's why some themes work ! The firmware upgrade solves this problem,i asure you !!!

do u mean the area where there is the date on it? i manage to get over that issue, if u could just pm me, i'll let u know in detail to get the top, the midddle, and the bottom area the same picture ( or u may say transparant if u will).

yup, i also use the file manager to open the video or pictures it's much faster, because if u open in the gallery, it seems that the phone have to generate the thumbnail view which is taking so much memory and time.

Why does the themes act in this way? On the n80 for instance, it loads the base white theme, then that new blue theme, then the actual theme i want. Its a bit crazy to go thru the process in triplicate.

And i would like my phone to work so that if its shuts down a theme it goes back to the base white and not the new blue installation that nokia has installed. I hate that one.

Dude, I have almost Exactly the same issue, only most state "file type not supported". I have found a few (ok, four) that work, all of which are created by Graysource. They are:

The PunisherVS
Spidey_Venom
Spiderman3 movie
FFVII Advent Children

All of the above are available on this forum and rock!

The only downside is, like yourself, a lot that I've downloaded apply throughout the menu screens, but when you return to the standby, they return to the default screen. It is maddening.

If I ever get some more RAM for my computer, I'll maybe have a go at creating some specifically for N91. Until then, GOOD LUCK!

U can make a 352x30 in svg format to make it transparant, but when u see it in the preview it will just shows black. but when u install it on your phone it should be transparant.

yup there is the other way to get around it if u r using the same wallpaper for the main and menu background ( by making a 352x30 blank and copy and paste it the 352x88 to the 352x30 and move it until it reaches the bottom part of the 352x88) but i think it would impossible to get around it without transparant bar if u want to have a full picture theme with 2 different background (without bar on the middle), correct me if i'm wrong about this.

1 - formated my PC >> install xp >> photoshop >> illustrator >> and this 2 file from adobe ( SVGView + SVGICC )

2 - edite theme by theme
example if you open new theme and you want edite non completed theme save and close TS go here :

C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Temp

and delet all TS temp foulder and file
new you can open new or edit tdf theme without problem

No problem, dzconstantine, that's true, i tried that before, and uninstall the ts 1.2 at the end, and now using ts 3.

the problem that i also facing is that i can't convert them to earlier verion of the os, all the svg format ( clock, signal & battery bar and also all the icons)shows blank white on the earlier version such as the N70 which i converted using the 2.8 option in the ts 3, some people say it could be done, some says u have to make the sis file for the 2.8 first and then 3.0, which i havent try it though.

I have question for u though, r u being able to make the highlight grid and the highlight list transparant? if so, could u tell me how u make it since i try so many way, but never success unless it's really transparant, but what i want it's a blurry look. when i try it it come out to be distracted with some lines on it although it looks okay on the preview but not on the handset, once u install it.

considering the transparency problem, Ted, look at my topic please, I described how I do it, for further questions, just PM me :)

considering the transparency of list and grid highlight, it is easy, I do it this way:
1.Prepare the list highlight in the colour and shape U want, I use the png format here
2.Now the mask
-black is totall invisible
- white is totall visible
- different grey versions, the darker the grey version the more transparent the highlight will be
and again, I use the png format here

And I made all themes in the same way, I do not have an E61 to test so all I can say is that I donno what went wrong untill U can show me a preview.

:partyman: If you're interested, a few of Graysource's themes work on the N91, I've trawled through i-phone and found another few, but unfortunately, I can't remember off-hand who they were by. Sorry. I also find some apply until you get to the standby screen and then they reset to the default screen. It's a bit of a bum. If you can't find them, feel free to come into P4U in the Galleries and ask for the guy with the Wolverine hair and I can send you some... (purely coz you're a fellow Glasgow punter!)

ok bro i have new N70 i have make many test and yhis theme work great in all version of N70

A - in Theory N70 have support for all themes maked for ALL This OS 6.x + 7.x + 8.x , but only themes for Built with Theme Studio v1.2.1 for OS 7.x work great and all icon work 100%,

B- all theme maked with TS v3.0 and released for v2.6 & v2.8 work 100%

As far as i know, Fonts color for the sms can only be change with the theme studio.

As i mentioned before, u could change the font color for the sms by using ts 3, but the problem is that, u must have the tdf file of the theme and only the original author of the theme has it.

so there won't be any problems, why don't you try requesting from the theme maker so he can update it for you. it may take some time however depending on how busy the maker is. just try.

All themes designed for "Series 60 Second Edition Feature Pack 3" (*#$$% long names!!!) should work on N70. This applies, for phones ABOVE N70 in the product line. So N90 themes work well on N70, but they are scaled down be the phone (alonf woth icons and all) while applying. Due to this, N90 themes dont look their best on N70.

try to use the java which comes with the TS, if that doesent work, set the compatibility mode on the installation file for win2000 and also the same on the exe once installed

Why rename it? I have installed new fonts a couple of times and renaming it has never been necessary...!

hmmm...can there be something...wait... i read the thing from forum nokia and saw this: only compatible with english language. it asks me to rename mywork directory. yes problem solved. coz im from finland i use "finnish" as my computer language. i just swapped it to english for a while and now there was a mywork directory! well... thanks for helping still. :D

I'm unable to uninstall/remove a few unwanted themes (S60 Color, S60 Gray, Black Pearl etc.). They don't appear in "App. Manager" and I don't know of any other way to remove applications/themes from my E60.

I have a question for you theme makers.
I have searched the net and the forum a lot without finding the answer.

I have got a Nokia N80 and I am fooling around with Theme Studio 3.
Unfortunately I don't have SVG icons, so I have created (from Windows icons) 88x88 png icons with bmp masks and they look just fine inside of the applications but in the 3x4 icons application grid, they are scaled down a bit it seems.
This makes the icons look bad. Pixelated.


The question: Which icon resolutions do I need on a 352x416 device to make them look good?

I have searched the net and the forum a lot without finding the answer.

I have got a Nokia N80 and I am fooling around with Theme Studio 3.
Unfortunately I don't have SVG icons, so I have created (from Windows icons) 88x88 png icons with bmp masks and they look just fine inside of the applications but in the 3x4 icons application grid, they are scaled down a bit it seems.
This makes the icons look bad. Pixelated.


The question: Which icon resolutions do I need on a 352x416 device to make them look good?

It's better to use the svg icon, where u don't need to make a mask for it.

In order to make the svg icon, just open the png format icon in the illustrator and save as a svg icon ( there are some setting in the illustrator that u need to modify in order to get less files size's)

As far as i know the sizes for the icons are : 88x88 for main icon and the others : 84x72, 84x58 and 60x80 ( i forgot which one which for the incall, setting, gallery and notes icons)

u could also use a svg formats, for the clock, the signal and battery bar. the size for the clock : 100x112, the signal and battery bar : 24x58.

do u mean a certificate and a key to make create a theme in the ts3? if so, u could see the instruction on the pdf file that comes with the ts 3.

makekeys -v -cert -len 2048 -dname "CN=NAME OU=Themes OR=NAME OYj CO=IT EM=YOUR MAIL" NAME.key NAME.cer


then press enter

now you need to type several keys of the keyboard, choose them randomly, wait some minutes and it will appears all is ok and cer and key done. usually they are in documents and settings/USER folder.

The wallpaper that you can set on a 352x416 device without editing a theme is 352x288 if I am correct.

I have successfully created SVG icons (saved as SVG Tiny 1.1) in Illustrator from the PNG files.

They look good in the different applications and on the 3x3 application view in the Checkout screen in TS3.
However, in the 3x4 application view, the icons are squished. The height has been decreased so the icons get out of proportion.

How come that the same icon is used in two different places with different proportions?
How do I prevent this?
I shouldn't be needing different sizes of the SVG icons as well, should I?

You'll need to get an N80 to have that font i'm afraid.
There are copys of it around but they dont look as good ya know.

Martin, i'm curious about the what u mean by wrong proportions or look squished, could post the image?

Btw, what program do u use for making the png and svg? i used the adobe photoshop and adobe illustrator, because what i heard, if u used other programs, u could have some problem in the svg.

As for the size, i use 88x88, thats the right size for the 3rd edition. the older one with the resolution 176x208 have a 44x44 in size.

i have found the solution the pic above which show series60_28_phone its old from the beta theme studio 3 now you dont need this select "basegraphics" wen you finiched make theme shows checout at v2.8

only N-70 & N-90 use Themes v2.8

It's impossible to convert directly from png or other raster format to svg. You saved png in svg, but it still raster. Phones with scalable graphics (N\E Series) can't resize raster graphics, thats why you have problem with icons.

Yup, that's true zeg, all we need to do is just prepare the svg file and double click on the icon as it will automatically convert to svg-t by the ts3.

there is one problem with formatting the n80. once you do that the all the apps that you installed on the memory card will not work. is there a solution to this coz if there is then this would be the easiest theme solution. :)

At the moment, i guess the solutions are : rename the theme or format the phone.

As i mentioned before that even if i change the sd card, still can't reinstall it may be because there are some registry in the phone memory that still there.

Renaming the theme : where u must have the tdf file from the author then open the tdf file using the ts 3 and rename the theme.

you can easily make your own gdr font by simply using Easy GDR Creater. :)

So, I will try the standard SVG instead and let TS3 do the conversion.

Your icons are still in png, thats why you have problem with proportions. Icons that are in vector working well, you can see it in my Armi theme.

Basically most icons were made in vector, but no one will give them for free. Set of 100 vector icons costs more than 200$.

U no the same thing happened to me as well on my n73....i installed certain themes on my default nokia minisd card....but then i got a new 2gb minsd card n i removed the nokia one....i tried installing those very themes but cudnt do it....but then i figured it out....insert the same minisd card in which u installed those themes......then remove them properly using the app manager.....If not there just use the data transfer mode n delete wt u dun want.....it worked perfectly fr me....n m able to reinstall wtever i wan.....hope this helps others as well:supz::supz:

yes all the main icons use 88x88 pixel icons, as it is svg then it will be scaled.
is your globe icon exactly 88x88? have u try to make it smaller 85x85 and copy that icon in a new transparant by 88x88 so u will have spaces between the edges.

This is quite annoying.
The 3x4 screen always changes the proportions of the icons.
I wonder which size in pixels it has to be to look good in that screen?
But since it uses the same icon for both the application itself and the 3x4 view it seems to be impossible to create a non-true-svg icon which looks good in both places.

Sad but true.

So every theme out there that has nice icons always use true svg icons then? I wonder why it is even possible to use png if that's the case?

Please have a try to make it by resizing the icon to 85x85 as i suggested and copy to a new transparant of 88x88 ( leave some space as the image don't touch the edges) , and let me see the outcome.

Yes, that is actually what I did.
I used a 72x72 icon and pasted into a 88x88 image.

Unfortunately this does not seem to help.
