Dear Friends,

I have just upgraded my Internet connection From DIAL-UP to DSL connection. My problem is with the torrent client when I was using DIAL UP the speed was up to 5kb/sec but now My speed with DSL connection in not moving more then 0.3 kb/sec. And it is also showing that its not connecting properly to the torrents system (showing the connections in light green colors) like it was connecting in the DIAL-UP connection ( connection was in DARK Green colors which means that it has connected properly to the tracker).

Please help me in this problem. If anybody here can help me ? did I have to change some settings in my torrent client.

I am using ABC torrent client.

Regards,

You need to setup something called port forwarding on your adsl router.
hxxp://www.portforward.com/
follow the instructions for your model there, if it isn't there, try looking in your manual for port forwarding and follow the instructions to allow port 6881 to your computer.

As well with adsl you need to set your upload limit to about 75% of your upload rate (138kbs = 5, 256=10) this is to ensure that your upload does not effect your download rate and slow your download right down.

hope that helps, if you need anything else just ask :)

Dear FEAR,

I have successfully forwarded port using the site you recommended and also setup the upload rate limit in the client to 20 (AsI am using 520kbs)

But still the connections not showing In DARK GREEN color ( means its not connecting properly to torrents) although now I get max. speed of 1.1 kb only.

Can you please help me further in this matter.

Regards
ZIPP

Firstly make sure that the torrent has a high number of seeders(rather than peers)..disable whatever firewall you are using...also Windows XP limits the maximum number of TCP Connections to 10 I think,so you need to increase that...to do so try installing the following patch..

http://lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads

Also I believe this should be in the Computer Networking and Internet section rather than User Problem and Support..moved..

As LayZ said, the more seeds vs peers a torrent has the better. What torrent client are you using? You don't really need the patch but it does help with very populated torrents. Make sure your firewall has been setup properly to allow the client access on port 6881 and that your ISP don't throttle BitTorrent speeds.

whats everyones upspeed here this maby your problem :)

with most torrent clients you need an upload speed of 6k or more to get good download speed :)

what also helps is number of seeders and number of peers they need to be a fairly high number or your downloads will be slow :)

most of the times, the port number used is at issue here. see to it that you use OTHER PORT NUMBERS not the default since the ISP will block that most of the time. use port numbers higher than 50000 if you can, port forward it to your router config, even on your local firewall settings. try to use azureus or utorrent as these two are more aggressive in connecting to trackers compared to other clients.
