Anybody knows how to transfer Messages from a Nokia 6680 phone to an N80, please share.
My messages are stored in my memory card (RS MMC).
I tried using Nokia PC Suite 6.81.13 backing up everything and restoring it to my N80 but it was a disaster - the recipient was blank as well as the date and time - only the message text was restored. Also, only the Inbox and the Sent folders were restored.

I'm in the same boat! I really need to transfer all the messages from 6680 (about 1350) into E61 (S60 3rd), i know a way to do that which I've learned from other forums and i was able to move the massages successfully, but, when i restart the phone it hangs up on the white screen and never starts until i remove the memory card and restart again without the memory card. i wonder if there is a software that sync the messages from the old device and sync it back to the new device ... thought?

Dear Members,
Try Using Via Mobile Edit Sofware.Connect the primary phone by bluetooth and other by data cable.
I transfered Nokia 3230 Contacts to Motorola V3i.It worked for me.

As of now, there is no way to transfer messages between Symbian series 60 phones or between series 40 and 60. Oxygen Phone Browser is still the best software for symbians but it still can't transfer msgs due to restrictions imposed by the Symbian OS.

Hi, Sinbad.
What method did you try - using a Card Reader and copying from 6680's E:\SYSTEM\MAIL to N80's E:\PRIVATE\MAIL2? Please share.
You see, I want to buy a Card Reader just to try the copy but if you are not successful then I guess I would just be wasting money...
I hope we find a solution very soon, am still not able to use my N80...

FIRST THINGS FIRST....
N80 is using miniSD memory card, which is new, so if you will buy a card reader, be sure to have with mini SD, it will make your phone more useful...
So... ok now we start....
1. Be sure both phones inbox is using the memory card, you'll find this in messages >> options >> others >> memory in use >> memory card
you'll be asked if you want to move your messages....
to free space, go ahead.....
2. You'll either need a memory card reader (more faster) or if not an explorer application for both of the phones (very frustrating).... you can search one in our i-pmart search tab.... search: explorer, file explorer, N80 explorer etc....
for 6680 i use the latest fexplorer.... for N80, any app, as long it can open the system folder (note: n80 is using .sisx apps)
3. This is how it works, all you need is.....
in your memory card...
E:/system/mail/
if placed in a card reader, it is hidden in your PC, same to the phone, so it is really important to have access to this folder....
in your PC, Tools >> Folder Options >> Views >> Show hidden files
PC Suite is useless, it won't grant you access to System folder
4. Once you see the folder...
copy both phone's "mail" folder, Paste to your PC to have a back up....
rename to prevent confusion...
copy "mail" folder, then Paste to the other phone's E:/system folder, overwrite the other mail if necessary....
wait to finish......
5. restart the phone....
once you start your phone, the messages should be transfered
NOTE: THE CURRENT MESSAGES ON THE PHONE WILL BE DELETED, ONLY TRANSFERRING OF THE MESSAGES WILL HAPPEN
"THEY CAN NEVER BE ADDED TOGETHER"
IT's up to you how you will keep them

Hi Ebony,
Yes, i used the same way you're talking about by copying the file S_00001001 and the index file only from E:\system\mail (S60 V2) and then paste them into E:\Private\XXXXX\Mail2 (S60 V3) and once you finish this and put the memory back into the phone you can see all the messages and everything works fine until you restart the phone, once you restart the phone it hangs up on the white screen and never starts until you remove the memory card out of it and restart it once again ... then you'll again return to scratch ...
Some folks had this way working on N73 and N80 when they transferred messages from 6680, 6681 and 6630 but it never worked for my E61
One other thing, when you buy a card reader make sure it supports MiniSD since many of the recent mobile devices use it, my recommendation is to get Sandisk 12 in One reader , i've been using it and it reads all card types and never had any kind of problems.
Thanks,
Ebony

Hi, roydjesse.
Thanks for your inputs. I tried what you suggested before I started this thread but I was not successful. The reason I think is that the MAIL folder of N80 is not in E:\SYSTEM\MAIL but in E:\PRIVATE\XXXXX\MAIL2. There are more sub-folders in N80's MAIL2 compared to 6680 MAIL folder. Maybe they are really incompatible.
Thanks for your time, I appreciate it. I'll keep this post alive in case somebody knows a solution that does not cause the phone to "hang".

Hi, Sinbad.
Thank you very much for your inputs. I was planning to buy a card reader that supports MINI-SD and RS-MMC (I found one already).
If you encountered the "phone-hanging" problem once you restart, then maybe I will experience the same thing. However, I still have hope since your unit is an E61 while mine is an N80 - maybe, just maybe it will work with me.
I have a question - what do you mean when you said "return to scratch..."? Did you have to reformat your MiniSD?
Thanks Sinbad, you're a big help... I think I'll try copying your method and see if it works with my N80... Wish me luck...

Hi Ebony,
I'm sorry if my phrase was confusing i meant to say by "return to scratch" that you'll have to empty the MAIL2 folder and re-do the whole copying thing again, you don't need to re-format the MiniSD card , hope that it works for you.
Good luck :)
Cheers!

Hi, Sinbad.
I tried everything possible (practically the whole day) yesterday but no luck - I got the same "hanging" result once I restart the N80 and you are right, I have to empty the MAIL2 folder and re-do the copy all over again.
It seems that there really is a "compatibility" issue which cannot be beaten. I hope Nokia will develop an improved PC Suite to help solve these type of problems...
Another problem that I have with my 6680 is that it is "SIM-locked" and since it is a 3G phone, nobody can open it until now...
Thanks Sinbad, hope to encounter you in the other forums...

The problem is more likely the index file, i assume that its causing the hanging issue and i also hope that Nokia comes up with new PC Suite that is totally different than the current lame one ... and also i haven't tried Oxygen phone manager and don't know if it could help but i would try it soon and will let you guys know.
