hi there guys .

Well i got some nice problem .... well i got 3 computers , 2 has win 98 and one has winxp pro sp 2 ........ and yes one SWITCH TOO ....
Well the next thing is that i got an internet connection for one computer .. for domestic use ........ however using some proxy software i was able to share the internet connection in the three computers .... but there arose a problem i couldn't share the folders and drives between the computers ....

The one computer in which i installed the broadband connection has got a static ip of 172.16.10.37 ........ and with the help of proxy software i was able to surf in the other computers tooo but however whenever i assign an ip to my other win 98 computers .... say like 172.16.10.38 and 39 ........ they two ping each other but not the computer with xp installed having the ip 172.16.10.37.... i just can't connect there ,,,,

However i reached a conclusion that i can share my files and folders between the computers only when i am offline (i.e. no interent connection) because that time i get to specify my own ip in win xp and not 172.16.10.37 ........ but my problem is i wanna share both the internet connection as well as the files and folders at the same time ....


So guys i need ur advice

To share files and folder, i prefer to use LAN but not ip. Just specify the same workgroup for all of yr 3 pc then you should able to share files..

yeah...you could use lan but what i concern is different OS..not sure is there any affect

the best you can do is... check all the connection or you buy router...

check weather ur xp system is using firewall
check weather all the systems are in same work group
try to add NETbui in all systems

sorry mate i didn not understand ... could uh use ENGLISH

Add one more lan card for local network & use local ip adress
use another lan card for internet alone
use proxy to share internet on local network
and enjoy.............

man if ur internet connection is on xp then its very simple to share net and folders.simple 1st dont assign static ip to any of your system on the network.then share your internet connection even it is a dsl or dialup.
after that just simply share the folders that you want to share on network.xp does not allow other operating system to get access shared folder to get acces just add user name and password in xp user manager.for dis just rite click on my computer and the go to manage there it ll be user.add users there
i.e.
user name or login name of the other system and password.

install file sharing protocal in connection properties.
