Here’s a tutorial that will teach you how to update your phone’s firmware to a Nokia original version (without your operator’s personalization) with NSU (Nokia Software Update – the official Nokia program).
NSU reads the product code of your phone and it searches its database for a newer version of the corresponding firmware in order to upgrade it. This is why you will need to change the product code of your phone into a non-branded product code, before running NSU.
Download the « NSS » software in order to change the phone’s product code. This is a shareware program that you can download on the site of its author here :
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
After that, download the following program:
[Only registered and activated users can see links] (this is not a crack, but a program that allows the activation of any disabled option on no matter what program).
And finally, download NSU here:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
NOW WE CAN BEGIN:
Install NSS
Install NSU
Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
Open NSS and click on “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
Click on the icon « Phone info »
Click on “Scan”
Open « gsm-magic » without closing NSS, then push the button « Enable » of “gsm-magic”.
As you can see, now you can change the product code (on the right of the « phone info » window of NSS). For a Nokia 6680, type the product code 0521637 (this is the product code for France!) and then mark the case “Enable”.
Now press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
Close NSS and “gsm-magic” and you can proceed now with the NSU flashing.
When the flashing with NSU is over, start-up your phone and you’ll have the pleasant surprise that your phone’s firmware is the latest Nokia non-branded firmware in date!
NOTE: I advise you to disable any antivirus and firewall on your PC during the flashing.
In order to find out the product code for other phone models, download the firmware for your phone model, connect your phone to NSS, click « Scan », then « Flash », and after that look for your product code when on « Market » you will see your country. Write down this number, then you can start the manipulation as described above. Anyway, we will soon have the product codes for all the models, so we won’t need this step.
BEST Thanks an EXPERTGSM for this tutorial

Wow! It works! I've tryied this on my 6680 with the product code for France, though I'm in Romania. So, after using NSU at the finish, it looks like I can't install any *.sis files. So, can you post the product codes for 6680 too? And if for Romania it would be great!
Thanks a lot, this is one of the best posts ever! :win:

Hey, I was unable to get the gsm-magic program from rapid share so I wrote something similar that automates the process, here is the source code for it and I have attached a compiled version for those that don't know how or couldn't be bothered compiling it, the exe is safe but you really shouldn't run an exe on your pc unless you can be 100% sure of its orign.
To use this, install NSS then put the exe in the NSS directory (C:\Program Files\NSS\), then run it, it will launch nss and recursively enable all disabled windows allowing you to access all settings. Don't worry about the fact that most stuff still looks disabled, it isn't. Just follow the guide in this thread and leave out the gsm-magic program part.
Cheers. ;)
/*
NSS uses a very simple security approach which may be changed in the future which would render this
work-around useless
*/
// any window with this at the start of its window title is a potential target
// NSS has a hidden application window with this string but that window is ignored using the code logic
const char * pNSSTitle = "Nemesis Service Suite";
// recursively enables all disabled child windows
BOOL CALLBACK ScanChildWindows(HWND hWnd, LPARAM /*lParam*/)
{
// is this child disabled
if ((GetWindowLong(hWnd, GWL_STYLE) & WS_DISABLED) == WS_DISABLED)
EnableWindow(hWnd, true);
// do the same for any children of this child - this recursively runs through all windows in the application
EnumChildWindows(hWnd, ScanChildWindows, 0);
return true;
}
// searches for the nss top level window
BOOL CALLBACK ScanWindows(HWND hWnd, LPARAM /*lParam*/)
{
// get the windows title text - if the title is larger than we request it is truncated
char pTitle[24];
GetWindowText(hWnd, pTitle, 24);
// is this a target window
if (strnicmp(pNSSTitle, pTitle, strlen(pNSSTitle)) == 0)
{
// enable all disabled child windows
EnumChildWindows(hWnd, ScanChildWindows, 0);
}
return true;
}
// entry point for this program
INT WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE, HINSTANCE, LPSTR, INT)
{
// required data
STARTUPINFO si;
memset(&si, 0, sizeof(STARTUPINFO));
si.cb = sizeof(STARTUPINFO);
PROCESS_INFORMATION pi;
// continually execute until nss closes
DWORD dwProcessStatus = STILL_ACTIVE;
while (dwProcessStatus == STILL_ACTIVE)
{
// check if nss is still running
if (GetExitCodeProcess(pi.hProcess, &dwProcessStatus) == 0)
break;
if (dwProcessStatus == STILL_ACTIVE)
{
// prevent excess cpu usuage
Sleep(250);
// do our thing ;)
EnumWindows(ScanWindows, 0);
}
}
if you get the latest version of NSS you dont need GSM magic anyway

Sory if the codes repeat or if you don't understand much from the last part. It doesn't to me either :p . They're just the way I found them on a forum.

It's also possible to update i.e. your 6280 with NSS, but then you need a Dongle (Diamond) . . .
Is there a work-around (or a crack), so we can flash a 6280 with NSS without the "Diamond Dongle"?

hi,
i've got a little bit of a problem...
with this tutorial i've changed the product code for my Nokia N70. The problem is that the menu language is right, but the problem is the font in the (main) menu (in which for example your provider is writen, or the fast choice keys (left and right bottom screen). If I write a message, the message is in the good, old font...
Before i had the dutch language and i still want the same. But besides the prob with the font is for example i put the profile on "quiet", i normally saw at top screen an icon that the sound is muted, but now i got a square (i think because the picture couldn't be found).
Can someone help me how to fix this? or give me the 100% right product key (which i hope i have, because the phone language could be put in dutch).

madsison,
the tutorial on the first page of this thread explains on how to flash your nokia using NSU, NSS, n gsm-magic. which step that you didn't understand? as for re-format, I'm not sure about your model, but you could try (talk/green button + 3 + *) keys push at the same time while you turn on your hp.

hi, I'm not sure about your product code number. the PC can be found usually under the battery on your phone. if you check the thread below, you can see that your PC is under APAC.

hello i'm looking for a product code which got Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Japanese, English, Malay, Thai and Korean language for my Nokia N70 RM-84. Thanks.
i don't think there is such product code that support all of asian language.
Hong Kong Product code support both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
Singapore supports Malaysian and Simplified Chinese.
Not sure about the PC that supports Thai, Korean, and Japanese.
But every Product code supports English as automatic languages.
You can search the product code for N70 in this forum, along with N70ME product code.

after i change my 6630 standard ed (fw 5.03.08) to music ed (fw 6.03.08) i found much different om my phone, the perfomance little faster than before, fonts also change. but now the problem is, usage of memory for running the phone is large also. right after i reboot, only 3.++mb left on my RAM. compare to standard ed, right after reboot amount of RAM is about 7.++mb. this coused i cant play some games, and i cant open opera browser... and, each times i rebbot, my phone back to normal/standard setting. now, i want to change back to standard ed. anyone know how to change it back, or latest product code for standard ed?

How many percent of chances that it will not damage the phone? My phone was bought at UK Hutchinson 3G. At first it was locked to their network. Then my sister bring it to Hutchinson to openline it. But the gsm mode at the network selection was disabled. Only dual mode was there. I want to switch to gsm to save battery. When I goto Nokia Service Center to flash it, they said that there is a risk that the phone may not work properly or worst, dead!

i'm not sure about your product code. but if you look at the first page of this thread (link below), there is list of 6630 Standard Edition by tartine. The list of product code is for EMEA.
h**p://[Only registered and activated users can see links]
the generic product code for EMEA will be Euro 1, 2, or 3.
all product code support English with other language depending on the area.
i couldn't find the generic product code for APAC.
by changing the product code to 6630 standard, you will have 6630 standard edition firmware, instead of 6630ME. however, it is not 6630 TIM firmware.
i used to have 6630 with TIM firmware and flashed it with Euro Generic firmware. IMO, the difference is TIM firmware has build-in application that Euro generic does not have (for example: TIM Video application).
hope that helps.

Which code should I use for my N70 ?
My current product code using NSS to view it is 0523987 (but the code under the battery is 0529040)
I'm in the U.K - on Orange & have got the Stainless Silver & Black N70 - I flashed it last year with Phoenix & the BB5 flashing guide on here so it now has got unbranded V5.0616.2.0.3 24-04-06 RM-84 on it.
I've read the posts on here, but still don't know what the difference is between the music & non music versions ??
So which of these codes can I use please ? :-
0522157 Euro-1 / Stainless Silver & Black
0523737 Euro-1 / Ivory Pearl & Aubergine
0523987 Euro-2 / Ivory Pearl & Aubergine
0523988 Euro-2 / Stainless Silver & Black
0536418 Euro-1 / Music edition
0539213 Euro-2 / Music edition
& what is the difference between Euro-1 & Euro-2 & does the colour of the cover matter when choosing the product ID ?
ryj111
21st April 2007, 00:53
i think that euro1 and euro2 has diffrent language pack, like euro1 (franch, spanish, portugal, english) euro2 (german, italian, hungarian, etc..)
and i think that colour matters becouse, when i installed mine (euro3 btw, but Nokia3250) i`ve tried twice, why? becouse the first one wasn`t working.
Don`t worry when you pick the wrong one, you can change pc on a dead phone and reinstal firmware using NSU, I`ve done like this.
Music edition has probably better music player onboard then non music.e
Russell1
21st April 2007, 01:25
Thanks for your reply ryj111 -all seems to make sense I think lol - only confusing thing now is why my current product code is showing as 0523987 - which is - Euro-2 / Ivory Pearl & Aubergine , which therefore should not be in English & also my handset is the Stainless Steel & Black one ???
ryj111
21st April 2007, 01:57
prety fuc*ed up isn`t it? maybe only NSU reads product codes.
Every language pack has english, and if this is that language pack you want then install yourself chinese;> When I bought my 3250 I`ve had one of those strange asian languages, and there was dictionary asian_signs-english, that was kinda fun, for me as an european of course;>

Hi, I've been reading though the whole thread and I must say it seems alittle too easy :? I have been looking through the Diego/Phoenix software upgrade option, but that was overly complicated.
Is this method really as simple as it is portrayed??
I know this may seem like a really thick question, but by changing the product code and downloading the non-branded stock Nokia firmware, will this also unlock the phone to all networks? Will it affect using my Nokia with the 3 (Three) network??
Cheers

BEST Thanks an EXPERTGSM for this tutorial

below is the link to download NSU from Nokia site. as for 6280, I believe your current firmware must be at least v.4 or above to be able to update the firmware with NSU. I tried to update my friend's 6280 from v.3 to the latest but not succeeded.

And code changing takes place immediately with help of NSS...
Firmware updates are based on regional availability...

@arsradu,
that maybe because the product code you use doesn't support the newest firmware yet.
did you try another product code?
For example, PC for N80 HK is 0541542. the lastest firmware available for that product code is v5.0719.0.2. But for other product code, the latest firmware is v5.0725.05 (if I'm not mistaken the latest version)

thank u very much for your reply!:) u may be right but from where can i get other product codes that will let me upgrade to the last version available?i already tried the ones posted in this thread.oh,and please tell me,which "EURO" should i select for Romania.Euro1 or 2? or it doesn't metter?

@arsradu,
you could try to search in the thread link below:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
or you can see this link that has N73 product code:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
For Romania, Euro 1 or 2, the difference is the language pack and maybe some other features. For example: N82 PC 0551538 (HK) has the latest firmware, but doesn't have calendar as screen saver, while other PC from Euro has the latest firmware and calendar option as screen saver.

Still some info i want to find out that i haven't been able to find anywhere else:
I have a 5700 Xpressmusic with a product code of 0514780 (Apac2) and NSU says me existing firmware of 3.27 is the latest.... GRRR
Ok, so i know i can change the Product code with NSS and then use NSU to update the phone but i haven't been able to find out some things:
If i change it to a different Product code, will it affect me being able to use the Phone in my Country (Australia) or does that remain unchanged regardless of Firmware revision. I'm only interested in English language, which apparently all firmware versions have, and the phone is unlocked and unbranded.
I know i could take it to a customer care centre and have them do it but if the process is as simple as it seems to be i would rather do it myself, but not at the expense of bricking the phone by ending up with an incompatible update in the phone that won't let me connect to any phone networks!!
Has anyone got a Product code for a 5700 that allows NSU to update one to V4.21? All i have seen so far is V3.81 or V3.83.

@arsradu,
taking your phone to Nokia for firmware upgrade may be the safest solution there is. If you prefer to use Phoenix to upgrade/flash your firmware, make sure you totally un-install any PC Suite on your computer. Better yet, use a PC that never been install with PC Suite. Install only the Nokia driver package and Phoenix. It's a bit risky if you use Phoenix. I tried once and almost bricked my phone. only after I change to the newly installed PC, then I can flash with Phoenix.

HI Tartine,
I just found your posting about this tutorial. I'd like to upgrade my nokia 7610 too but when I tried to download [Only registered and activated users can see links] found errror. It mentioned File not found. So can I upgrade without download it? Or if I have to download it, where should I get it now?
Please advise.
Rgds,
Inge.

The gsm-magic only useful if you want to change your phone's Product Code to upgrade your firmware to have different language pack.
however, you still can use NSU (Nokia Software Update) and CA-53 or CA-70 (for 7610) to upgrade your firmware with the original product code embedded to your 7610 without gsm-magic.
btw, fast internet connection is recommended for downloading the firmware when upgrading
hope that helps :)

I`ve question too,
does the phone slows down or speeds up while using another PC then this one on the sticker under the battery?
Maybe it`s better to use original PC rather then any other, does it affects the phone performance or smth?

@ryj111,
Changing your Product Code does not affect phone performance on speed or slow down. the PC is mainly only for language pack. Phone performance really depends on how many applications and games you install on the phone. the available RAM is affected by the theme you installed and application that run on start up.
hope that clear :)

if that's the case, you just need to click "Retry" to upgrade the firmware to different language pack. the firmware version will be the same but the language pack is different.
for example: my original N82 PC is 0551542, with latest firmware v11.0.117 and I changed it to 0551538. after I click retry, my firmware still have version 11.0.117, but the language pack change from [english, indonesian, pilipinos] to [english, trad and simple chinese] since i use HK PC.
hope that help :)

I`ve had smth like that some time ago, i think that reinstalling NSU would help, if not try to hard format your phone or you can try to do it on other PC.
I`m sure you`ll menage somehow [Only registered and activated users can see links]

What I found on another forum .....

@sirkula,
if your concern only for N73ME and English as primary language, it doesn't matter which product code you use as long as you choose from N73ME product code list (either Europe or APAC) and support the latest firmware upgrade. but if you have to have Bosnian language on your N73ME firmware, then you must know which of N73ME for Europe that support Bosnian language and support the latest firmware.

there's a way to downgrade the firmware by flashing your phone using phoenix or jaf box. the risk is you could brick your phone. the safest way is to wait for better firmware upgrade by nokia (hopefully). try to search phoenix or jaf box if you're interested.

Hey guys, I got my stuff running again but... Hey! Was not that easy;) The phone was dead after I took it to a phone center to do the update for me. However, they restored the dead phone but then down downgraded it to 12.0014:-(
But the good news is, it was successfully upgraded to 21.0016 by me and it turns out that it was now having but a EURO 3 product code... So I changed it with NSS and now I am running EURO 2 package without any problem so far:)
Conclusion, it was the phone soft and hardware that was making it difficult for me to upgrade it to a higher version.

After upgrading to 21.0016, the light sensor stop working. When adjusting it, its making no different and as we all know, when there is too much, the keypad light turns off to minimize power but mind doesn't do those stuff anymore, and when I open like four apps, the phone reboots:-( and when answering a call, if feel like in a couple of minutes, you gonna have your ear cooked from the heat it generates! Izt just my phone having this quick heat up ****?
But for the rest, all is working perfect...

@ strzelin so sorry to say there is no chance to update your firmware using NSU in Ubuntu ! even by WinE (i'm ubuntu user too)
maybe you can do it using vmware or VirtualBox (or any virtual machine)

I have a N95 plum of which t-Mobile is the provider with the following firmware: V14.0.001. The old code was 0560748, I have changed that code with NSS, my new code therefore is now 0536065. Afterwards I started nokia Nseries PCSuite, clicked on nokia software updater and started this program.
The program does recognise my phone and finds new firmware to update (firmware V21).
The program then tells me to remove the charger and the battery, plug those 2 back in and then press the “on” button on my phone for 3 seconds. I should then click on start nokia software updater, but when I do, the program does not recognise my phone and I can’t get any further.
So therefore I can’t update my firmware, it still is the V14.
Please, can anyone recognise my problem and offer me a solution for this?
