Processor: ARM (Intel XScale, Intel Bulverde, Samsung S3C24xx, TI OMAP), SH3, MIPS
Screen: VGA (480x480), VGA landscape (640x480), QVGA (240x320), QVGA landscape (320x240), Square (240x240)
Free storage: 1 to 2MB (platform specific)
Pocket Mechanic Professional is able to completely bypass the file system drivers of Windows CE and access the files directly through our own FATFS layer - the heart of many vital modules dealing directly with the file system. The aggressive and efficient FAT and cluster caches further increase the performance of that layer resulting in an average speed up of nearly 300% in all file operations compared to the performance of the OS itself. Our defragment code is the faster than any other similar utility for the Windows CE platform. The integrated logging facilities provide ultra detailed information on what the application is doing and allow us to trace issues and improve the software virtually in hours. Developed in our labs the GFx module takes care of the rich user interface and ensures compatibility with both low-resolution and high-resolution screens, VGA, QVGA or square resolution devices and guarantees the "eye-candy" style our products are well known with. But to us look and feel is no more important than stability, quality and usability. Our engineers focused on creating a framework of tools so huge and complex it took us nearly 12 months of careful studies of the internals of the Windows CE operating system and hundreds of thousands of lines of C++ code to bring you this innovative product but we hope you, the end user, will not be disappointed.

Download the fully featured 15 day trial version of Pocket Mechanic Professional and give it a try now. We look forward to hearing your feedback and helping us improve further.

Defragmenter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fragmentation refers to the tendency of files stored in the FAT file system to become broken into pieces that can end up in very different places within a storage card volume. Fragmentation occurs naturally when a storage card is used frequently, creating, deleting, and modifying files. This process is entirely invisible to users.
A fragmented file system leads to performance degradation. Instead of a file being in one continuous "chunk" on the disk, it is split into many pieces, which can be located anywhere on the disk. Doing this introduces additional positioning tasks into what should be a sequential read operation, often greatly reducing speed especially on micro drives but also affects flash memory because of the way the OS organizes read-ahead cache and FAT cache.

There are two principle reasons for improving when the files are stored in contiguous cluster chains. One, to reduce the possibility of loss of data. If the files are kept together in adjacent clusters, the chances of recovering them, even with third-party recovery tools, increases measurably. The second is to improve upon the speed in which a file is stored to, or retrieved from, a storage card.

Pocket Mechanic Professional is loaded with the most powerful defragmenter for the Windows CE platform. Blazingly fast and supporting all three FAT formats (FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32) the defragmenter will rearrange the files on your storage card like children's tile puzzles until all files and folders become contiguous. The defragmenter supports various options and modes and is even able to defragment individual files.

Defragmenting a very fragmented storage card will often result in tangible improvements in the "feel" of the disk. To avoid excessive fragmentation, defragment on a regular basis; usually once every week or two is sufficient.

Fragmentation status
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fragmentation status module will check the fragmented files and folders and will provide detailed information on each fragmented cluster chain found including a visualization of the actual clusters on the FAT map. Individual files and folders can be defragmented from within this module as well.
Slack analysis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One issue related to the FAT file system that has gained a lot more attention over the years is the concept of slack, which is the colloquial term used to refer to wasted space due to the use of clusters for storing files.
A cluster is the minimum amount of space that can be assigned to any file. No file can use part of a cluster under the FAT file system. This means, essentially, that the amount of space a file uses on the disk is "rounded up" to an integer multiple of the cluster size. If you create a file containing exactly one byte, it will still use an entire cluster's worth of space. Then, you can expand that file in size until it reaches the maximum size of a cluster, and it will take up no additional space during that expansion. As soon as you make the file larger than what a single cluster can hold, a second cluster will be allocated, and the file's disk usage will double, even though the file only increased in size by one byte.

Changing the cluster size means formatting the storage card using a different cluster size. Picking the correct cluster size may depend on many factors like the number of files on the storage card or the dispersion of their sizes etc.

The Slack analysis module of Pocket Mechanic Professional will scan the selected file partition and will display a detailed report on the slack status for the current cluster size and also for all possible cluster sizes. It should be fairly easy to decide which cluster size should be used for the card in order to keep the best balance between wasted slack space and file system performance. Slack space below 5 % to 10% is considered to be low so pick the nearest cluster size. Do not forget to backup your file system if you are going to change the cluster size by reformatting the storage card.

Don't suppose anyone has a .Cab version with serial for WM 2003 for this?

For some reason this app (all versions) never wants to work with an installer file.

for those who do not know how to open the .info file.Right click it and open it with wordpad/notepad. 9 out of 10 that is always where your patching, serial,or product information about the version the software is for before you load it onto your mobile

Pocket Mechanic v2.23.163 Cab version WM2003

This is the .Cab version of Pocket Mechanic that i downloaded from Anton Tomov's website today, and extracted out of the desktop installer package as he doesn't offer Cab files for Pocket Mechanic.

Very usefull if you run Linux or other OS that doesn't support standard installer files, or your having trouble with the PM installer.

Install Notes Unzip, copy Cab file to device and run it to install.

Just check to see if it's automatically registered, if not use serial i provided in the included text file. (Never done cab extraction from installer release like this before, so let me know how it goes.)

You didn't include the wm5 version, when installed it gives a warning that i should visit their website and download the wm5 compatible version!

(did that and the registration key also works! cuz it's the same build :D )

here's the link for wm5 users
