View Full Version : How to hide images from gallery: SOLUTION!
holleboomer 26th November 2006, 12:23 Hi guys,
Just found out how to hide images from gallery. It's pretty easy.
Open Y-Browser ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and browse to the imagefile(s) you want to hide. Select Options, File, Attributes. Select 'System:Yes' and 'Hidden:Yes'. Restart your phone and go the gallery: the images disappeared!
Have fun with it.
oldhouse 26th November 2006, 12:39 Does it work also on papyrus icon so they don't appear in gallery anymore? And des papyrus still show them?

Don't know, don't use papyrus.

Right! I test with N73 and it isn't necessary to restart the phone

drweside 26th November 2006, 14:06 There are two folders with icons.
Eagle1 26th November 2006, 14:57 If the image is now hidden, how do you find it when you want to use it, like to send it out to someone else as multi-media msg or BT msg etc????
Dansco 26th November 2006, 15:24 If the image is now hidden, how do you find it when you want to use it, like to send it out to someone else as multi-media msg or BT msg etc????
Just take off the file attributes :)
Maelly 26th November 2006, 15:28 Good question Eagle1!!! The best thing is to use ADL or similar app. Imagine having to go via YBrowser to view yo images? It sucks...
timball 26th November 2006, 15:57 Just take off the file attributes :)
Or use Resco Photo Viewer for your images. It has an option in the settings to show Hidden Files On/Off. Thats what I use.
john74 27th November 2006, 00:44 me to rescoviewer is the killer app...by the way that trick didnt work for fs caller images they where all in the gallery showing
jaywhy13 27th November 2006, 16:57 Is there FExplorer out yet for 9.1? Coz FExplorer and I think Fileman allows u to change the attributes on the file.
leftezi 27th November 2006, 17:36 For the FSCaller images i have make the whole FSCaller folder as "hidden" (with Y-browser) and the images are not shown in the gallery (N73)
This did not affected the functionality from the FSCaller.
The comic thing is that this is not happent with other hidden folders!! They allways shown their content in the gallery even if they are hidden!!
Why?
--------------------
Oh! now i found it. You can hidde a whole folder from the gallery by chosing System:Yes' and 'Hidden:Yes' in Y-browser (as mentioned in the first post) but this way you can hidde the whole folder and his contents and not only single files - images.
The bad thing: The folder now is not showing in Resco Viewer. There should be an option there to "Show System Folders" but there is not.
You can access the System-Hidden Folder only from Y-browser.

In RescoViewer: Options>Settings>General>Show Hidden Folders>YES
NOFI 27th November 2006, 20:33 hi
there is much easy way to hide ur pics and videos..........
i posted before that make a new folder in system folder e:/system/newfolder/
and paste all ur clips and images over there and they cnt be seen from gallery..no need for changing attributes of files.......try it let me know......to execess these files go from y-browser.....etc :)
OleGka2006 27th November 2006, 21:09 NOFI, great solution! Thanks
DavdeMars 27th November 2006, 22:17 i have made FSCALLER folder as system and hidden but .pic files are always visible in gallery in my n80
i have also made each picture as system and hidden they are always visible
adancau 27th November 2006, 23:07 Try setting the attributes for each pic to hidden, then move them to another folder, launch Gallery, so it refreshes (even if they are hidden the Gallery has them in its database - when you move them, it should remove them from the db and not find them anymore since they are hidden). After that move them back to where you first had them, and the Gallery shouldn't pick them up anymore. It's just a thought, from a logical point of view it makes sense, but I've not tried this.
EDIT: I tried with a picture on my phone and it seems to work.
treles 27th November 2006, 23:55 hi

Great! Works for me (N71). Changing the atts with Y needs the workaround that
adancau wrote above.
DavdeMars 28th November 2006, 00:45 i can also rename fscaller folder and see what append
lufia2000 6th December 2006, 22:31 for me, i used best crypto, it works so fine to me, why don't u try it? i used y-browser method like above, but when i found this baby(best crypto)suddenly i love this app, be'coz using y-browser method has a weakness, even the images are hidden, but it still be count in the folder, u know what i mean, right? it hard 2 explain coz i have bad english
nenno 7th December 2006, 18:31 this solution is too old!
jinberry 10th December 2006, 08:52 hi all,
My first post to the community. First of all, the best crypto method still leaves a broken image icon in the gallery and also takes a long time if the image is big (both encrypting and decrypting). The y-browser one does not work for me.
The method i use is by using Zip manager (freeware)
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
First, take ur pic. THen go to Zip manager and create a New FOlder. Add the pics to the folder. ( i choose no compression/fast compression). Then go to Gallery and delete ur original pic.
Whenever u wan to view ur 'special' pics, just go to Zip Manager and view the contents of ur Zip folder. Either that or just unzip it back to ur gallery.
Proven and tested on N80.

yrannadx 10th December 2006, 18:42 Papyrus icons are annoying to be shown in gallery. This is how to hide them:
- Set the folder Papyrus as Hidden as explained in first post.
- Rename the folder Papyrus to something else (e.g. Papyrus2). If this does not work with Y-browser, use PC suite in file transfer mode or card reader
- Restart phone and check gallery, icons should not be there anymore.
- Rename the folder Papyrus2 to Papyrus.
The same works with the images from folder Raster used by TomTom to show satellite images.
leftezi 11th December 2006, 17:10 The simplest method to hide a whole folder with images from the galery is to make a folder inside the "System" folder in memory card (if there is not a "System" folder, then create one) and then create "YourFolder" inside there. Put the images in this folder. (E:/System/YourFolder/) Thats it.
You cannot wrowse the folder with Resco but if you have accosiated the image files with Resco, the open the first image from Y-Browser, the accosssiated Resco opens and you can continue to browse the rest from the images with Resco as usual.
No Compression, no encryption. Just Hiden from gallery.
enakiloaggouria 12th December 2006, 00:25 with this program!! i think is good
lufia2000 12th December 2006, 17:57 wow! new method but make me feel dizzy! it's too complicated! for me the best crypto is the easiest, but it's up2u, it's worthy 2 try, right? one thing! with bestcryto, it doesn't leave any broken icon/thumbnail, about the long delay, it just part of process right?
deepu13 12th December 2006, 19:15 ya i think if sumone is smart enuf they can see ur photos thru y broser but by encrypting u can b sure of the safety of ur photos i think. isnt?

In all cases the broken icon/thumbnails are gone after a restart.

Ya! That's right. But the main reason to hide images from galery is to avoid to see them (or show them) someone accidentally.

retromini 12th January 2007, 21:27 Agreed...

jay291 14th January 2007, 19:56 GREAT APP....but the keygen doesn't work for me.... any solutions?
koriem2 26th April 2008, 04:55 download xplore-open attributaries click hidden

I think that highlighted points are not nessesary. I suggest replace these steps with delete _PAlbTN folder in folder we want to hide. _PAlbTN contains preview of all images in gallery.
PS. to change attrib files and folders X-plore is good too.
abysoss 29th April 2008, 23:51 Well the idea is quite right but in order to see your photos you must do so by searching them with the file browse (y browser in this case). What you could do is make a folder in /system and place your photos there, this way, the gallery cannot access them and you can easily see them better organised.

Yeah but how to hide example Garmin images?
miroox 30th April 2008, 10:34 1. use active file (file manager like y browser, but I'm very like it), create one folder in your memory card root (E:) or on any folder but not on system folder like image, attachment, data documents ..etc.
2. put cursor on the that folder and press : option --> files --> set attributes
3. set the attributes hidden -> yes, press option -> apply attributes ->select
4. now move your hot xxx picts :D to it,
5. dont forget to delete "PAlbtn" forder in the folder thats picts originated
6. exit from active file
6. voila...! now check your galleries, do you see the secret pict in the list ?
:egdance::egdance::egdance: :partyman:
miroox 30th April 2008, 10:39 but you can see it later by active file or resco photo viewer (option -> setting-> general, show hidden folder : yes)
sorry for my bad english :hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:  :oops2:
