hi there ppl, i'm been doing some search on the net about HOW TO share my internet connection with my phone "N73", and found this really cool program which allows 4 it. its called gnubox and i know 4 a fact that gnubox will only work 4 older symbian phone example N70.

well this version i found is actually a working version 4 the N73, but however b4 we all can start using it, we need to obtain a Developer Certificate. i will include the program that we need to obtain the Developer Certificate as well.

plz dont ask me why i didnt certificate it "its because i dont know how toooooooo".

well will somebody or sum1 that knows how to program or use the program certificate this very good program 4 me and everybody else in this community.

plz post you it here when u certificate it.

P.S certificate means when u install the app your phone will not allow u too. "i know the definition is not correct but you'll see when u install the app"

thnz to the original cr8tor off gnubox and those who put there time into cr8ing a version 4 the N73.

Why should I pay so much so has to use a software in my phone.. I paid a hefty sum for the phone right and now every bit 'n chip in the cell phone is mine. I guess there is a method for using the software for your phone only. Anyone able to shed more light on this?

Hence Symbian OS 9.1 keep track of every installed software on phone, the old way that we used to use is not working now, hence every app installed on ur phone, the phone automatically create registry file created for it.

Wow !! Great job man !
I really appreciate this. I've been looking for this program since I have my N73 !
Can you share it with us or it takes time ?

.

1. Download the sis file here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).
2. Create an account at SymbianSigned ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and download DevCertRequest ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).
3. Create an accout and install Nokia S60 SDK here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).
4. After you have install DevCertRequest, go to start > run > cmd.
5. In command prompt, type makekeys -cert -password 1234 -len 2048 -dname "CN=your name OU=Development OR=your company CO=you company EM=your email" gnubox.key gnubox.cer and enter. You can find gnubox.cer and gnubox.key in c:\program files\common files\symbian\tools. Copy those files to desktop.
6. create gnubox.csr at desktop.
7. Go to start > all programs > developer certificate request > devcertrequest.
8. Locate gnubox.csr from devcertrequest and click next.
9. Set no to ACS Public ID if you don't have ACS Public ID and then select your key output, the one we create in step no. 5 and enter password.
10. Next, fill personal info, see step no 5.
11. Add capabilities (I selected all) and insert your IMEI no.
12. Finish.

Login in to Symbiansigned.com, click "My Symbian Signed" tab, click Developer Certificates on the left bar. Click request and upload gnubox.csr and wait till you redirected to download page. Download the dev cert to desktop.

To sign the file,
1. go to start > run > cmd and change directory to desktop.
2. Then type signsis -o -s -v gnubox.sis gnuboxs.sisx gnubox.cer gnubox.key 1234 and enter. (Install Nokia SDK before you do this).
3. Use the newly generated sisx and install.
4. Tell me if it works.

I experience an error (don't remember what it is) and it refuse to install but after I set the phone's date to the day after tomorrow, it install properly. Hope it works for you guys.

Note: Please don't be mad at me if it doesn't work. It doesn't work for me too at first but after few hours of trying, I managed to sign and installed. The important thing is, don't give up and ask Mr Google if you can't find the answer here.

@shah_seven

Could you upload the signed sis(x) file for us? It's a long process and I got stuck on step 5 already. Thanks

I'm sorry I couldnt. The sisx file is locked to my IMEI. Can you explain what happen on step no 5?

10th December 2006, 16:23
every signed file is for a particular IMEI and you can never use it ...
more over, you get it valid for mere 6 months ... u have to repeat the process again ...
its better you learn it !

may b u can try this

First of all, download the unsigned gnubox file to your desktop.
Then, download the DevCertRequest at: [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Then download the Nokia S60 SDK at (make sure u have activeperl installed too):
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
Also m-Router at:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Developer Cert Request
- I assume u've signed up at their website.
- Start the DevCertRequest program
It'll be easier if u name all the files as gnubox
=Step1: Select as output file for your *.csr file
=Step2: If you dont have ACS pub ID , select No. Then select your key output *.key file name , and fill password.
ps: for Step1 and 2, have the files output to ur desktop.
=Step3: Fill Personal info
=Step4: Add capabilities (i selected all)
=Step5: Finish Developer cert request. Then *.csr file will created.
- Login in to Symbiansigned.com, click "My Symbian Signed" tab
- Click "Developer Certificates" on left side bar,
- Click "Request" and upload *.csr file and wait
- Will automatically change to Dev cert page. You can download dev cert, *.cer to the desktop

Signing The File
- Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> type command
- In the command prompt, type cd desktop (enter)
- Then type signsis -o -s -v gnubox.sis gnuboxs.sis gnubox.cer gnubox.key password (enter)
- TA-DA!! it's signed!
- use the newly generated gnuboxs.sis and install!!

If you have ACS Publisher ID, you can give the sisx file to everyone but you have to $350/year if I'm not mistaken.

You can use it instead of SDK and perl.

Hi all, I just posted this guide in Howards forum. I got it to work for me after a lot of trial and error. Its non-trivial. Maybe it will be helpful to those of you trying to get Gnubox to work.

I have finally got it to work on my N73. Its taken 2 days of trial and error. I am getting PMs to help with signing, now that I have figured out how to make it work without the Nokia SDK, its shouldn't be a problem, you just need signsis and that is available in the 1.3mb file I linked to earlier as opposed to the 355mb SDK. For those of you still struggling to figure this out here it is.

Please note, this is seriously non-trivial and it may not work for all configurations. I am using a thinkpad T42P and Widcomm drivers from IBM. The native bluetooth drivers in XP SP2 didn't work for me. I am not using mrouter or a proxy server, analogx for this method. The basic thing is first get gnubox.sis working on your phone for which you need to get it signed. Then configure incoming connections in XP, then configure GNUBOX on the phone and keep your fingers crossed.

STAGE 1 - Sign GNUBOX.sis

1. First get gnubox.sis. [Only registered and activated users can see links]

2. Then download this file, it has the application Signsis.exe [Only registered and activated users can see links]

3. Get this app from Symbiansigned.com . You will need to sign up for an account here
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

4. Follow the step by step guide by Lurzsan_07 on page 6 of this thread. Post #88 to sign gnubox.sis. You don't need to download the SDK, Activeperl or Mrouter. Use Signsis.exe from step 2 with the commands given in post #88.
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

STAGE 2 - Configure XP SP2

1. Follow this guide exactly with 2 exceptions:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
a. When setting up the 'Bt' access point in your phone enter your dns address in the 'advanced setting' section. 'For your dns address type 'ipconfig /all' in the windows command line.'
b. In incoming connections under the tab 'Users' tick mark 'Require all users to secure their passwords and data'

Stage 3 - Success!

I'm using an N80 and mRouter and WIDCOMM bluetooth stack. I tihnk everything is set up ok but the only problem is that whenever I create records on gnubox, the access point 'Bt' that I have made vanishes from the access point list. It is still 'there' because if I add another one called 'Bt' it says 'name already in use', but it is not visible to any applications. This problem is mentioned on the gnubox site but it says that 3rd party apps should be able to see the access point, but not for me.

Anyone else having this problem?

I had this problem also. I can't remember how I solved it but I think I had to go to Install>Delete records within Gnubox and re-enter the access point.

If you using N80, why dont you just use its WiFI? Just buy urself a wireless router for your PC, and use ur N80's WiFI to connect to it and you wont need any of this Gnubox stuff. Simpler and faster using WiFI if you lucky enough to have it in your phone and the N80 has it!

This method is more for phones like N93, N70, 6680, etc... that dont have inbuilt WiFI.

Once you had re-entered it, surely you had to recreate the records, which would have caused the problem again? Can you remember exactly what you did? Which phone are you using?

To Markuk: Thanks for the tip but your comment wasn't really answering my question at all, I have my reasons why I can't/don't want to use the wifi, which I'm not going into here.

I think, in able to have a certificate please register to [Only registered and activated users can see links]

after you've signed up, login then click "My Symbian Signed"
on the left pane menu click "developer certificate"

In order to obtain a Symbian Developer Certificate, a tool called DevCertRequest must be used. click the link there - [Only registered and activated users can see links]

then install, after install open the file then follow the on screen instruction.

Maybe like that...

Hi.. I understand the basics of signing. The problem i have is if there's no .key file supplied along with the app how do i sign it?
Do i use any .key file or what?
Gnubox doesnt have .key file, i used one from a diff app and it signed sucessfully but i keep getting an error on phone ; constrained by certificate! i'm sure i've signed it with my IMEI!
Secondly can a certificate once made b reused with another app provided i keep the .key file same?

Just asking can we use this application or hisisuite to share GPRS connection in between two mobile phones instead of pc and mobile.

I need it badly...

Because my brother always have GPRS activated on his phone but doesn't use it much. I want to use it, but every time i have to change the simcard, which he never liked and always shout on me. It would be really nice if this works as i can use the net without changing sim and we both will be happy.

So , any solutions please

Waiting .. Thanks

Well, the only thing that comes into my mind is that he can share his GPRS via WiFi ( Walking Hotspot is the program) but you must both have Wifi connection on your phones...
