How it works?

When you select a contact to call, the iSkootMobile software on your handset communicates with iSkoot's carrier-class server. The server connects your call using Skype's™ Internet telephony service so you only pay for air time on your mobile phone. If you make a SkypeOut™ call, it works the same way, but you also pay SkypeOut™ minutes, just as you would if you made the call from your PC. You can receive Skype™ calls on your handset as well – SkypeOut™ charges apply.

Your Skype password is protected at ALL TIMES. When you enter it in, iSkootMobile saves it to your handset only. When your password is sent to our server, we use SSL encryption for transport and never store it on the server.

iSkoot uses proprietary technology and has eight patents pending for its unique client server protocol and interfaces, Mobile-to-Skype™ gateway and integrated presence system.

i tried this application sometime ago but i think it's not good
you can't make free calls to skype users because it calls some internationl numbers instead which is more expensive than calling them using local rates

i actually discovered this service tonite and found out (and correct me if i'm wrong) that as it says on the tin "You will be charged by your mobile network provider for air time" and this will be like a local phone call if you set your account to receive phone calls and you set your mobile number as well, so that the network will divert the call to a number of your own country and not an international (this happens if you DONT set any phone number)

so this means to me that:

- having a wifi phone you'll be able to use the service free of charge
- if you have free minutes xnetwork you'll be able to call your buddies for free as well.

is this right or... i'm dreaming?

example:

- i try to call my friend, which is active in the buddy list;

- in the settings I have previously set "SET TO RECEIVE CALLS" to enabled, and set my mobile +447766XXXXXX in the "PLEASE ENTER THE NUMBER TO RECEIVE CALLS"

- I click on my friend buddy;
- i receive the screen "CALL +44208819xxxx" which looks to me like a london UK landline

- i click yes to the prompt "SEND DTMF NUMBER P0X" (where x changes everytime), even because if you click NO it will not work, don't know why

- confirm call type to "VOICE CALL"

- PRESS CALL

the mobile make 2 tones and then the phone call starts.

I'll be able to tell you if i've been charged by my network tomorrow, when i can get my stats from o2, but being on a 1000 xnetwork free minutes the call should be free, at least for me!!

try it yourself and let me know, if it work i think it's great.

:iphonepost:

PS: tried with the J2ME Handsets: Nokia 6030 application choice on the second registration screen,
