Originaly these items (tabs, volume indicators and etc...) are svg formated images, you should use adobe illustrator cs2 to edit them. Just open theme by illustrator and make changes and save, but you must know to use illustrator first, it is confusing some. And if you use svg images on themes will not need make masks.

The tutorial itself is ok but as sorry as I am it is incomplete.
Only users with Series60 2nd edition ( and n91 ;) ) can produce a nice theme following UR work.
This happens due to the fact that most s60 3rd edition phones have landscape mode view option and You do not mention it.
the other thing is that your tuto is written only for 176x208 screens, QVGA and k2 need different adjustements. I know this is hard to make but U know...
Your problems with carbide and N70 problems result from the partial compability of N70 with themes, I had N70, sold it after a month, the bugs were to much for me.
At the end, I wrote a tutorial too, but in my native language, so it will be useless for you, but I know that a tuto on ipmart can be better written. Sorry

3 we have to wait for new version of carbide to improve the nice program

Now I have the Pb. of Volume indicators, and navigation tab indicators....I think nobody can help me

I think there are 2 probabilities;
First; It is a bug of Carbide.
Second; how did you begin to create your N95 theme for N70? I mean, whether you established it on an existing theme or begin by choosing s60 2nd bla bla (I do not remember) theme, not base one. You should choose s60 2nd at the beginning for N70. And on the step of creating the sis package you should choose again the same option.

Finally; there are too many themes for N70 with different tabs and so tabs can be edited by TS 3.0 or Carbide 3.1, it is not a bug.

But anyway the problems that i post, I cannot find any perfect theme for N70

And Now I confuse about which bugs are occured...Carbide or Firmware?

Are you sure that N70 is proper for svg formated tab images?
Did you tried themes come with Carbide for N70 (actualy they also have bugs)? I wonder that their tabs work for N70 or not.
Sory, I have never use N70 and I do not have any perfect theme for N70 as like as N73. I am looking for perfect one N73 too. May be the problem is creating .sis pack or editing tab images.
May be you do not know, after editing an images by illustrator and saving on Carbide, Carbide converts the images from SVG to SVGTiny so that the image works on the phone but we do not see any change on image. Maybe the problems occurs during this process. Post the tab images and let me have a look them.

Tabs you edited were not proper for phone, I prepared a new set of theme looks like original N95 theme tabs, You can try them by only coping and pasting onto the tabs images of Carbide. There is also a theme file for N70 just with these new tabs and background in the pack.

The blue Icons are only placeholder, so anybody know if he would change the Icons, which he changed.

So as "Blue_Ray" said, create your theme with all backgrounds, panels and so on and your phone use only these things and the default/ original Icons.

If you can't create keys then use these, save them on your pc and if the TS ask about the keys, browse to them.

As "Blue_Ray" wrote, Application Icons 88x88px, you can select any icon (List Icons, Note Icons...) and see in the Layer window the size which needed.

If you use two different backgrounds, then you see the layer (background layer) at the second image, so it's not transparent, because TS use always a layer.
I have it also tested with a transparent svg file, don't work for me.
Therefore use many themecreators a navipanel or the same background image for both backgrounds.
You can use two different images, but then must the top of both the same, so the navipanel looks transparent.

Example:

Hmmm well... so meaning there's no other way that i can get that thing done without using 2 same backgrounds... coz i've also tried Theme studio v3 and it also do the same thing.. i can't get it transparent unlike theme sudio v1.1 where i can set it as 'None'... I still guess there is a way coz on the manual guide at page 13 it says 'Most of the areas contain a background layer by default, allowing you to define transperancy for the components. The navipane components deos not contain background layer as default. To add a background layer to Navepane, select the components and go to layers view or the animation editor. Right-click the layer and select Add. BACKGROUND. Now u can effects to the background laye'

Question about creating indicators using Carbide.ui 3.1 for a E62. Are there instructions on how to create them? I am using Illustrator and whenever I make my own indicators they dont appear the same in Carbide as they do in Illustrator.

Basically, if I make my own signal bars (say they are white bars) instead of being the bars the whole area is white when I save it to Carbide. I have seen people use letters and images of things but I cant figure it out. I have searched many sites and cant find any specific instructions on how to properly create the indicators.

Can anybody help me out?

You select the indicator in TS 3.1, edit image in vector editor (illustrator).
Now you see the indicator in your opened vector program as Layer1. Make a new layer (Layer 2) and create your own indicator. If you are finished, make Layer 1 "hidden", so you see only your new indicator, then save, go back to TS and you see your new indicator in there.

Supertonic,

It worked....unbelievable I couldnt figure that out on my own. I believe my problem was that I was doing everything in the same layer and not creating a new layer and making the original layer invisible. It created a mess of things.

I really appreciate the help!!!

actually you have sorted out a bunch of issues I was having. I couldnt make a clock and now I can, couldnt make the digital clock numbers come out right and now I can. Now its time to rock and roll.

it was all in the layers.......

Here is the screenshots....

And here is what i do to use 2 different kind of wallpapers:

1. Put 1 image to the idle background and the other image to the status background
2. Click the Areas, where there r : Status Area, Main Area and Control Area, open the idle status area.
3. Copy Idle Status Area background, open new file on the photoshop with the size of 240x20 for the 240x320 resolution or 352x30 for 352x416 resolution
4. After u paste it to the 240x20, move the image up until u got the bottom of it and save it.
5. Now go to the navi pane background, where there r 3 pane : Solid, Solid idle navi pane and wipe.
6. Open/edit Solid, there is layer 1, copy and paste the 240x20 image into the layer one, and add effect to it: alpha blend, then choose BoverA,
then create another layer, layer 2, close and save the edited image.
7. Copy the image from the Wipe
8. Open/edit Solid, paste it to the layer 2, and add effect : alpha blend and choose AoverB, close and save the edited image.

Ps: just don't bother how it looks on carbide, just save u r works and create the sis and install it.

That's it guy, hopefully this is clear enough for u, and hopefully this could help u guys.

As for the thin status pane, just follow step no 3 but the size of the new file is 240x27 for 240x320 resolution and 352x40 for 352x416 resolution.
and in no 4 don't move the image, just save it.

Happy theming and please share your works here in this forum.

One question:

I have many problems with the analogue clock. I create a new clock as svg file with illustrator and In TS 3.1 looks all nice, but....

Sometimes it don't work on N80 devices (white stripes and squares) and all works fine on the 3250.
Then i create a new theme, make a new svg clock (the same way) and it work on N80 devices but not on 3250.
:?

So, what goes wrong, what is my mistake?

Example for the error:

Okay, my friend, as for the analogue clock, here is what u need to do :
1. Open the image clock on photoshop, resize it to 100x100.
2. Make a new file, transparent one, with the size 100x112. Copy and paste the resize image to the new file, then move it up until it reached the top border, then save it in png format.
3. Open it in illustrator, and check the x and y, the x :56 and y:48, if not, then move it until that no. Save it in svg and apply it in carbide.
That`s it my friend, hope this help u.

Yeah I got it now. Another question is not much of a theme question, but more of a forum question, how do you post a underlined link to a single post?

Well, i never use that though, i always put everything here as an attachment, but u could just copy and paste on the go advanced button where there is an option of manage attachment which open in other window, there is a "upload file from the url, there u could copy and paste the address u want. Again, since i never use this feature, correct me if i'm wrong.

or better yet u could ask the moderator about this, my friend.

This is a bug of SW (mine is N73).
Go to the contacts menu and select all you will see the white ticks. After that go the directory of which you posted screenshot and select all again. This time you will see white ticks instead of black. You can try this with default Nokia theme also. You should activate color of ticks by selecting on contacts menu first. If turn off and then turn on your phone you should do it again. My purpose is not revealing your mistake...

Chris,

Are you asking somebody to post the whole program for Adobe Illustrator? If so its a huge program and very expensive. I believe its $600 or $700 US. There are a bunch of people that use some free open source graphic illustrator programs that can do what you need done. Check out Inkscape for Windows or whatever operating system you use. I believe all operating systems are covered. I havent used it but I know a bunch here do and it should work for editing items for use in Carbide. Just Google Inkscape. Good luck!

how do u resize your jpeg files to 176x208 for n70? can someone briefly teach me how?

cpkusuma
13th March 2007, 04:55
i use Adobe Photoshop to resize the pix. if you open the jpg file with Photoshop, you have options to resize your image or resize your canvas size. it really depending on what you need. resize image will resize the whole image including the canvas while resize canvas only change the canvas size and some of the image.

for example: your image size is 240x320.
if you resize your image to 176x208, the whole image will be converted to the 176x208. however if you resize your canvas to the 176x208, only some of the image will be converted (i.e.: some image will be adjusted to 176x208).
you'll see the difference between image resize and canvas resize once you try.

hope that explains

So you generated a key file or not?.......because without a key file you can't generate a 3rd edition theme.

I also found this problem when using carbide ui 3.1.1. all themes generated by me is only 4kb. and unable install to phone. i think that's not a problem from keyfiles.

I tried using all icon in svg format. result is same. themes generate successfull. but only 4kb.

Hello there, I need your help as I'm new in theme-making.

I want to change the Status Area Background (landscape) and the Control Area Background (landscape) from the color or gradient that is pre-defined, to the background that I have put in my theme. In other words, I want no bars, just my background.

I figured it out in non-landscape mode because I have the 240x320 background and I cropped images from it, but I don't know what is the exact image that is used when it goes in landscape mode (I tried to image size from 240x320 to 320x240 in photoshop, but it wasn't correct...)

Please help me!
Thank you!

In landscape mode would the same images used as for the portrait mode. You can change the normal and the menu wallpaper only, so if you use bmp/ png images, then they looks transformed/ streched. Therefore use many creators svg images, because they looks not transformed.
The best solution for the bars in landscape is to use a plain colour which works fine with the background (if you work with bmp files)

In the attached zip folder are a key and cer file, unpack the zip folder and save at any place you want.

If you want to compile the sis file then open also a window where you would ask about the certificate, use the browse function to find the files from the attachment.

Thanks, I got it working. But for some reason my simple theme (and others by Blue_Ray) dont work well on my Nokia N95 8GB.

I will attach a copy of what 1 of Blue_Ray's theme looks like on my phone, since my theme has an ugly pic of myself in it :P
You can clearly see that the top part of the image is smaller for some reason.

I think this pic is from "Sexy_Girls_QVGA_Themes_by_Blue_Ray.sis"
I believe he also used Carbide.ui 3.2.

I have installed other themes that work fine with full-screen images. Like "Mac_OSX_Leopard.sis", but im not sure who made it or what they used.

Is there a bug with Carbide.ui 3.2, or is it related to the N95 8GB?

Ok I got it working, heres how:

I was using S60 3rd edition FP2 BaseGraphics:
The Navi Pane Element shows:
ID: qsn_bg_navipane_solid_idle
Bounds: 0,28,240,20

So I edited my background and cropped an image from 0,28,240,20 to use as my Navi Pane.
But after examining a screenshot from my phone, I found that the bounds are actually 0,36,240,18. So I re-saved my Navi Pane image from 0,36,240,18 (from my background) and now it works.

I tried S60 3rd edition FP1 BaseGraphics, which shows the Navi Pane bounds as: 0,38,240,20. But those co-ordinates didnt work either. Using 0,36,240,18 worked.
When you add a new image, Carbide changes the Stretch Mode to "Stretch", but I change it to "Keep aspect ratio".

It's not needed to use images as layer, because if you want to use two different images, one for the idle-second for menu, then you see always a part of the other backgrounds, The navipane can be transparent maked.

I tested with donvito62 and juhaW the wallpapersize for the N95 8gb, because 240x235px shows not correct as normal on 240x320px screensize. So we found out that the N95 8gb 240x241px need as wallpapersize. Therefore i think some elements are not on the same place or have another size as on the older 240x320px mobiles.

I followed the instructions from the url. It works! :D
So now my theme works with fullscreen image in the background. But why doesnt yours work on my phone? Did you use an image as your background in the Navi Pane instead of making it transparent?

Secondly, when I go to:
Applications > Music Player
and:
Applications > Music Player 2

Neither of them are the same layout as what my N95 8GB has...
Why does it look different?
Is it possible to change the placement of the play buttons etc in Carbide? I couldnt figure out how to move anything.
Like the "Graphic Visualizer Background Image" component. I couldnt get rid of it or make it transparent.

Stevengw
5th March 2008, 17:11
You cannot move any buttons, and maybe you need to update Carbide.ui, as that may have the N95 version, though i find that when i change the music player colours it doesn't make a difference. And some things cannot be deleted/edited either...

I really don't know regarding this problem. maybe carbide 3.1 compatibility with N95. but it's work fine on N73.

Yeah I know, works fine on your phone. Im guessing Carbide 3.2 is a little outdated, and the component bounds are probably different between N73/N95.
Although Carbide 3.2 was released in Nov 2007, I still couldnt find any updates. Kinda sucky since its a Nokia product!!! :(

It makes it hard to design a theme when they dont work between different phone models.

Normally comes this message if you want to install as example a 2nd edition theme on a 3rd edition mobile or inverted a 3rd edition theme on a 2nd edition mobile.

You select the right settings in the box on the top of carbide before you want to compile the sis file, means the settings stand on '2nd Edition FP3' ?

I`m using Carbide 3.3, and when I check my theme in landscape mode the image is transparent, but when I installed it on my phone it wasn`t transparent. There was a blue line on the upper level, and on the lower bottom level even after on Carbide they were right. Why is that?

The Music Player layout is different too. I checked all the options on Carbide (FP1, FP2, etc), but no matter which one I choose the music player layout is different than on my N95 8GB. Why is that?
I mean the buttons, structure, everything. When I checked that part on my phone the image was transparent, but the upper level, and the lower level weren`t straight.I don`t know why is the differences?

If someone has N95 8GB (RM-320) v20.0.016. Can you post the UID of Music which is on the main menu, and the Utilities which is in tool. I used that application which reads the UID , but I can`t find those numbers. These are the only two application folder I need to change on my phone. I`m creating a new theme, but these two folders still default.

EDIT: SORRY for posting this in the wrong section. I got what I needed. Now I just have to figure the landscape transparency in Status Area background, and Control Area background. Oh and the music player issue. Hopefuly I figure that soon so I can post my first theme here to everybody.

Preview sometimes not same as u see on ur phone bro. it's always like this.

for upper and lower bar. u must replace with proper image. if u just make it transparent with the same u do with navipane. u will not get the same result.
