Hello. As a psycologist, I can only derive this into two ways.
Firstly, there is no meaning to life. It is shed by how you mould it to be. How you shape it, make it smooth/rough, hard/soft. Life has no actual way. It is a endless track of options that you make. You may be a janitor/superstar, but is that what you want to be?
Secondly, it is not about a life you should ask yourself. It is what YOU want to do with your life. Do you want to be a hard rock superstar? Or a beautiful model? Work for it. Achieve it. Follow that system. Do not ever give up your dreams.
Most importantly! Never Sidetrack!!

Whan We Start Thinking About The Meaning Of Life And The Reasons To Live We Get Confused. We Should Just Live The Way God Has Ordained Our Lives And For That One Needs To Believe In God Or The Supreme Authority What Ever Religion One Adopts Or Is Born With.
We Should Also Understand Life As::::::::
"Peeling Of An Onion" Where One Keeps Peeling Off One Layer After Another To Reach The Core Only To Realize That Reaching The Core Was Not The End As The Core Contains Nothing. It Is The Peeling Process That We Should Attribute Life To.
That Is To Live Day By Day And Try To Enjoy And Reap The Maximum Benefits Thereby. Material Desires Actually Hamper Our Happiness So It Is The Small Things In Life That One Needs To Learn To Enjoy And To Be Able To Live The Life With Joy.
Life Is Nothing But To Live By And Perish And Leave Behind Your Cherishable Legacies For Others To Follow.
I HAVE BEEN PARALYZED AND CONFINED TO A WHEEL CHAIR FOR THE LAST TWENTY FOUR YEARS DUE TO AN AIRCRASH AND I THANK MY GOD THAT I AM ONLY PARAPLEGIC AND DID NOT LOSE MY EYES IN THE CRASH WHICH ATLEAST GIVES ME THE PLEASURES OF ENJOYING THE COLOURS OF LIFE.
IT IS SIMPLY HOW YOU LOOK AT LIFE. JUST ENJOY.

We do not come to the we have been sent to the world
Now who send us?
Searching of the Real one Who gifted us our lives and then worshipig him is our main target.
So my brother or sister this is life.

Everyone has their own views on that question - And gosh by means NO! its not a silly question - many many people think about their own being the whys the hows and their own mortalities. We each have our own opionions based probably on what sort of life we've had up until now. Sometimes things happen to us whether good or bad to "make us" become a better person - or even sometimes to realize that little things in life really is not a big issue. A person who has a near death experience can tell you alot about that question you have asked :) There is no right and wrong answer. But for me personally? Life is what you make of it. Its about you, only yourself and your being on what you do with it. You come alone into this world, you will also pass alone :)

Quite agree with most of your views.
Only the last part about being born alone and leaving this world alone I want to add something.
All of us have mothers, they were always there at birth. Ever since that day I think it is in our being to never want to be alone. That is why we all belong in communities, be it your own family or the people you work with, your friends etc. For most people I think the meaning of life boils down to not being alone i.e to be part of something like a community, his/her own family, a profession etc.

I once read some where and was touched by it there was a man,he said hey people i now know the secret of life...
Sun dont use its own light, the tree dont enjoy its cool shade, the clouds dont drink their rain,i dont remember all the lines but if you ponder on the nature they all tell the same story, directly or indirectly they are serving humanity.so the life is for others you make others happy and you get the pure happiness.
You dont need to be Mother Teresa to achieve this Even a good Smile to some one can make you happy inside.
And when u die and people miss your good company for sure God will smile at you.

Wow I love this when people try to make their point and use do they call these allegories? In your example use of the tree to make a point across, which is serving others without having its benefit (which is cool shade).
It kinda reminds me of the one where when you throw a stone in a pond you see ripples/waves, which then touches other ripples/waves. Those ripples represent human beings encounter with other people.

Do onto others as you would have done onto you - I think thats an important motto that everyone should pay credence too. Too much apathy and lack of morality in the world today.

Another story/allegory reminds me when you wrote this.
It's a story about a priest (or a you can replace him with another leader/member of religion). It was situated some years after the second world war in the US.
I can't really remember where I got it from but it goes something like this.
When I lived in Germany during WWII when the Nazis took my Jewish neighbours I didn't do anything 'cause I wasn't Jewish. During my early years in the US when the KKK lynched black people I didn't do anything 'cause I wasn't black. When they prosecuted the communists I didn't do anything 'cause I wasn't a communist.
One day when they went after me, there wasn't anyone left...
Or something like that. If someone knows where this is from or what the real story is kindly post it here....
I think the story tells us that we all belong to communities, but ultimately we all belong to the human race and as such we have to help each other.
Because as the story says at the end when they went for him there was noone left. It could mean noone left to help him or as what I think it is telling us is that a human being who isn't doing anything is not a human being at all.
I just hope that when this happens to my neighbour I'll be able to do something.

To me the biggest problem humanity facing is nationalism, grading people by their nationality,by their passport.their is no place in the world for humans.these geographical boundries drawn by the man seperated humans, divided resources, and benefited rulers.you see wars every where on basis of race and color and religion, the mighty wants to take away all the resources of the weak to safeguard its interest, throwing all the surplus crop in the sea and not feeding the hungry nations, only to keep demand and supply factor.GOD NEVER STOPS THE RAIN ITS THE MAN WHO STORES THE GRAIN
these lines may be confusing to u,in short we are the progency of ADAM,we have the same blood.cant their be universal brotherhood, with no boundries, free sea and land for every one.
The time will come and we shall see the dawn, and GOD will rule the earth, the GOD of common man, which is you and me.
INTERNET WILL DO THIS WE SHALL DO THIS.

I think it was me who started to go off topic I apologize for that.
But Geecho you have an interesting insight. I think it all started the first time man build his fence probably to keep others (ie other humans or dangerous animals) away from his property to protect/safeguard himself and his family. Other people coppied this behaviour, I don't blame them at all. Maybe this was/is necessary to secure their goals in life (their meaning of life).
In this world we currently are living in, lots of decisions are made where common man isn't consulted. Sadly others decide for you. In my opinion we can only make a difference in our own community. But that community can grow and maybe other people will copy that behaviour and change and break down their fences.

thanks for the compliments dear,we are not off topic because the topiic is so deep in nature.
fencing and lighting fire to keep the intruders away is a differnt story,Human intellect can only teach about how to safeguard your own nterest, suggesting you ways to protect your wealth so none can know about and use it,because Man thinks that what ever he has earned,is merely his effort so he has the right to use it the way he likes.simple?no its not.you earn 100$,but million of people and forces of nature help you to earn this amount.your parents your wife the milkman the list goes on....a good weather condition,a good health..think about it how much u do?and how much other things.a farmer puts a seed in the deep soil, who brings out the fruit from that tiny seed?ofcourse its the hardwork of farmer, but he has no control on rain and natural hazards.just analyze the contributions.
it is said that the first invention was a wheel, surprisingly,it is not perfect yet,ie man still thinking of imroving it,now think that man has to build a system of living,a universal constitution, which is accepted universally,it will be impossible.again he would be thinking to safeguard his interest, his people, his nation.result would be war to impose it.Even if it is done with all the good intention it will be on trial and error basis, and u must have known that there were several systems introduced for the well being of mankind and practiced, communism is one such example, but they all failed with time.we may be able to produce a perfect system but untill then there will be so much bloodshed and wars, and there will be destruction in the name of peace.
i think i have said too much ,if you comment on that, i will say something about the perfect system in which people will know the true meaning of life.:thanks:

I think most of us subconsciously are searching for a meaning in their life. Some people on this thread already stated that this is different for everyone. And sometimes they are conflicting (some think that using war against other is fine to protect his own belongings other think this can be done peacefully) that's why we have so many misunderstandings in this world, in my opinion.
Many of us long for a world in harmony and I think religion plays a part in this because when you are in a group/community it is safer and it gives a common goal (towards a meaningful life).
As long as our definition of meaning of life differs there will never be a perfect system. There are always people who will suffer...

Too many people of high authority and of course the common folks, worry too much of whats going on in other parts of peoples lives, whether its celebrity hunting - ego bursting - keeping up with the joneses - why this person did this or that etc -the gossipping, the negativy etc - I know this is on a minor scale versus the wars the religions etc. I guess what am trying to say is that it is said - fix your own backyard first before worrying about other areas. In other words, fix your own life and home first.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I think life means the process of living and it makes no sense. What makes sense indeed is action.

Like it was said in the alchemist by paolo coelho that there was a man whose ultimate motive in life was to go and visit the mecca n medina and he was working harder and saving money everyday to achieve it, but when he had saved enough and had gone and came back from the holy shrine he felt he had nothing more to do. So life it about setting goals and achieving them. And then setting newer goals. whatsay guys?
