I'm reposting "dollitle" cellcom Navigator from yesterday
that's i downloaded and tested on my n80
it works fine (of course if you know hebrew)
i would highly appreciate that, this post won't get trashed ,also.
i'd hate to think that there is some sort of discrimination on this highly respected by me forum .
thank you again dollitle

the menu language is hebrew, although you can type the address in english (if you manage to get to that part  )
and it don't need any registration - as far as i know
it works pretty well with my WAP connection and i don't have GPS so i can only see a simulation (maybe now I'll by a receiver)

will be glad to answer any other questions

i'll answer in eng. so all my friends in israel pls. write in eng.
the q. was what con. we can use?
so on orenge you can use 3g portal (that you have 100mb in your pack) or internet 3g (data).
About the maps, when you write a destination the all map and alternative ways will download to the mobile so you dont need any more any conaction and when you get a call the nav. will go on without intreruption.

i know that but if you want to use the gps and move from place to place you need to be connected as you cant download the whole map to you mobile

dollitle

i know that but if you want to use the gps and move from place to place you need to be connected as you cant download the whole map to you mobile

Let say that if you connect your gps without a destination it will download all the time your new position using the 3g connection, but if you are gonna put a destination like from your gps position to a street in Tel Aviv it will calculate the ways and some major alternative way and will download the maps to your mobile so the way is in your mobile and you don't need the 3g connection but if you'll change your way he will automatically download the new maps.

It works great on my N73, thank you. Is it not dangerous to use this app' when i go to gprs internet? I mean can cellcom find out that i'm using this without buying it, and they can track my IP because i use it on the gprs internet? It just looks too easy.
Thank you.

Ok let me tell you my story.
I got N73 from Orange and it was sim free.
I went to Cellcom and I told them i want Cellcom Navigation, first they told me that i don't have the correct version (any one know that's a bowshot), after 2h talking with a supervisor they took the mobile and burn it with the Cellcom rom that include the navigator but they told me i need to pay 20 nis month for the traffic (didn't say i have already 100mb gprs pack include). after 2 days I call *123 (Cellcom service) and i told that i have 100mb pack gprs so whey I need in plus those 5 mb so they cancel it and now I don't have any pack for the navigation according by Cellcom.
So if i have it and they agree anyone can do it.

Well for the english speaking guys, you cant switch it to english since this is a hebrew app built by cellcom,
anyhow, im using orange and they require you to pay even for the maps only, and you cannot use their app like this one.

works fine without gps on n73 orange 3g portal israel.

i got no gps to test real navigation..

Hi

This app works on Nokia E65 (symbian 9.1 3rd something). I use it with an external bluetooth gps receiver which can be found on the internet in local (israeli) shops for 700nis and below.

A little review on GPS Maps and Israel

After a little digging I've found an artical on ynet (.co.il) that said that the map service in israel by mapa (.co.il) doesn't comply with europen standards. that's why other companies do not have a version of their software for israel, they need to convert the local map service and that costs time, time costs money, and for a little country and population like israel? why bother.

so the choices for israel are limited.
Is there another GPS app for symbian OS (for israel)?

The current version of cellcom navigator (GPS navagation software for israel in hebrew to anyone who didn't follow) found on the web is 2.5

The latest version is 2.92. The difference is that the new version is combined with live traffic updates.

I'm not sure if the traffic updates requires subscription, also I've been unable to find a newer version on the web

oh. I've managed to download a link from orange site to their gps software. The link points to somewhere on the internet to download the real application but the phone gets disconnected for some reason all the time.

I SUSPECT it's a block on orange's side since I do not belong to their network right now.

The link file can be found in: wap orange co il/northstar/voicegps.aspx (I think the forums has something against links, fill in the missing dots)

If I use this app with N73, I'm in Orange, have the 100MB packet.

There is a situation that i will use more then this 100MB and I will need to pay for 1 MB something like 5 NIS? or this program use less then this 100MB?

thanks.

dollitle

in cellcom you get 5 mb/m and you cant over it
sow 100 mb its a lot

shachar2like
10th July 2007, 11:56
no. The current version on the web (2.5) doesn't support Nokia N95 internal GPS. My friend uses an external one that he bought for a few hundred nis. I bought one recently the prices very from 400 nis or less to 700 nis. in dollers that's US$95 - US$166

Program Internet use: The program uses the internet to download maps, I've done a little check to see how much data it is since internet through the phone costs a lot.

A map download is about 100K.
100K in israel without any package (according to 0.09nis per K) is 9NIS (US$2.14)

Here's how to check it with Nokia's phones (95, 65, 73. Might work with yours):

go to the log by pressing on the send/dial button.
hold down the menu button to access task manager
go back to standby/your cellphone and to the log again or try going to the log directly
now you'll have (in Nokia E65, also similer in Nokia 6680) in the log (where you see dialled/received/missed calls) an option to go back
In there you'll be able to see sent data and call duration. you'll also be able to reset the data/call duration through the options menu.

by resetting the data then trying to download a map via the application and going to the log again you'll be able to verify how much data the program used.

Oh I've just found another way to reach the log call duration/data. through the menu search for the log. you'll be able to reach the same or a similer page and reset the data.

yeah, i seem to have same prob too... think cellcom closed the service for her recepients only??

shachar2like
22nd April 2008, 20:09
yeah I have the same problem. I checked it at work, there are some users who have access to this application and some doesn't, have it locked and the application tells them to call cellcom where they'll want to charge you 20 nis

it has nothing to do with a sim card, I have a cellcom sim card.
I think they lock the app manually for whoever isn't paying a monthly fee. if they're doing that they're using the device imei (something). it's a number that's burned in to every phone, basically it's unchangeable the procedure to change it if it does exists it complicated and risky

so for now the only alternative if you must have a navigation app is to use freemap.co.il it's open source application and it's not as good as cellcom navigator so don't get your hopes up

oh and it's in english as well.

anyone knows a way to crack the application or why/how it's being blocked?

shachar2like
30th April 2008, 11:43
there's a new version of the navigator (this one's in 3d)
the new version could explain why the old version stopped working

shachar2like
30th April 2008, 11:47
as for alternatives there's this open source free one at www.freemap.co.il
as for sygic
sygic isn't selling this product yet, they're currently testing it
www dot fxp dot co dot il/showthread.php?t=1491472

their product looks excellent and really professional and as the only alternative for symbian os I thought about giving them money (paying for the product) but you can only fill out a form to join their "testers network"
