Hey guys, how about this font on your N70? I've used a combination of a .gdr and a .ttf font for this with of course the AGFAFONTRASTER.dll and the Freetype.dll add-ons! If you like this font i'll be posting it maybe next week.. Thanks!

Ok as promised, i'll be posting now the font files that i'm using..

REMINDER:
we all know that changing the system font of our phones is quite risky, so do this if you think you know what you're doing.. DO NOT BLAME ME if something bad happens to your phone.

1. Create folder on C: or E:, that is, C: or E:\system\fonts then paste the three (3) contents of the .zip file that could be downloaded below. It contains the FreeType.dll, AGFAFONTRASTER.dll and the Acidnbase.gdr, these files should be present on the folder that you have created.

2. Then, paste the .ttf font that you wish to use, include it in the same folder that you made. I have incorporated Lucida Handwriting.ttf and TahomaBold.ttf in the .zip file. Use one .ttf font at a time (or maybe two if the font is of the same type, ex. Tahoma.ttf and Tahomabd.ttf)

3. Reboot your phone for the change to take effect.

Hey Cyberay...TR RENFREW is really nice. But not all of the punctuation marks are available. Is there a way to fix this?

These r the ones I personally like and I mentioned them especially cus they support Turkish characters as well..I found many other fonts that work well on N70 but with no Turkish support and I'm sure they will work flawlessly on N70 if the language is set to English.I found these fonts on [Only registered and activated users can see links] so you can try some fonts on there. As I said before,if u r using ur phone with English language selected, most of them will work well.

Thanks for all your help acidnbase and cyberay. I finally found the font that I like on my N70. My problem now is that I can't decide which fonts I want to use. Hehehe...I chose Augie, Copperplate, and Goblin Hand. So far these three are the ones that worked best on my N70. In terms of size, readability, and completeness of the Table of Symbols used for messaging. So, here they are...

First, Augie

i was trying to find ways on how i could possibly use only .ttf fonts on my N70, finally i did and i'd love to share it with you font addicts like me, hehehe!!!

i've observed that the GDR Creator has five (5) parameters, each corresponding to the font which our dear Nokia phones use, i.e., LatinPlain12, LatinBold12, LatinBold13, LatinBold17 and LatinBold19. and so i thought why not use .ttf fonts with same name and use it just like any .gdr font?

i've found this pc software (Font Namer) which can actually rename an existing font and create a new one.. (is this some sort of piracy???, hehehe!!!).

i started with of course my favorite font TAHOMA! and here's the result!!!

acidnbase
21st March 2007, 06:33
here's the five (5) .ttf fonts that i've made using Tahoma. Paste all the fonts in one folder (C: or E:\system\fonts) then reboot your phone. Alternatively, you could also add (or retain) on the same folder the plug-ins like AGFAFONTRASTER.dll. FreeType.dll and the Acidnbase.gdr but this one works even without the plug-ins, just the .ttf fonts. Give me your feedbacks, i'll try to make some more next time.. But for now enjoy this!!! :) :) :)

Great Job acidnbase. The Tahoma font never looked this good on the N70 before. The size of the files are a bit big, but I guess its okay since it looks so good on my phone. There is this prob when you write new messages. When you type in the name of the recepient of the message and it has lower case letters like p, j, y, g, q, the lower part of the letter is not shown (please see attached screenshot). Is there a way to fix this?

Isn't there a way to use the bold and plain versions of the same font at the same time, just like on NokiaSans.ttf ? When writing message characters are plain but headers are bold, which I like most about this font.

Update :

Look what I found!..
Using Font Namer I renamed some tags of a ttf font I downloaded from dafont.com and put it in the same folder among Tahoma ttf fonts made by acidnbase and guess what happened..My phone uses 2 fonts at the same time now!So I'll be able to use 2 favorite fonts of mine now :)

Tahoma (of acidnbase) and Nokian.ttf from dafont.com (just for example) :

After many trials I found out that only 3 fonts are fully compatible on menu and idle screen -in silent mode as well-.That is why I use Nokia's original fonts everytime I make a font pack. Those fonts are Nokia's original fonts Nokia Sans S60 Regular , Nokia Sans Semibold S60 and Nokia Sans Title Semibold S60 which can be found in Z:/System/Fonts on N70.

good day guys, it's been a while since my last post. i'd like to clarify some points regarding this thread:

first, the FONT NAMER that i've posted here is a PC Application, it is an executable file (thus the name Font Namer.exe) and is used to rename or make a new font out of an existing one. You cannot install it on your N70. All the .ttf fonts that i've made out of this software correspond to those that could be found in N70's system, that is, LatinPlain12, LatinBold12, LatinBold13, LatinBold17 and LatinBold19. Based from my experience, when you place/manually install these set of fonts to your N70 the system fonts would change, i just don't know if this also applies to those N70s with Chinese Language Pack or those that support Chinese characters.

next, together with these fonts i also place/manually install (in the same folder, E:\system\fonts) other plug-ins such as AGFAFONTRASTER.dll, Acidnbase.gdr and FreeType.dll and that the effect would be seen on 3rd party apps such as Opera browser, MSDictionary, OfficeSuite, etc.

finally, no virus, or sort of, was incorporated while making these fonts.

thank you so much!

In simple words in the fonts folder we need that files:
-acidnbase.gdr
-AGFAFONTRASTER.dll
-FreeType.dll
-and the five "name modified" TTF files

it's ok?

EDIT: Perfect, everything works! Only "silent" in idle screen, "space" and "Enter" symbols in Symbols list don't work.. :)

I've noticed that we can add special characters into our menu names using the application named "RenameR" (as long as our font supports them).See below :

[Only registered and activated users can see links] [Only registered and activated users can see links]
[Only registered and activated users can see links] [Only registered and activated users can see links]

NOTE : Use an office application (preferably OfficeSuite 3.0) to open the document on ur N70 and copy the characters.

Arial and Nokia Sans support almost all of these special characters.

if you're going to use Font Namer and have your own font converted, just rename it to LatinBold12, LatinPlain12, LatinBold13, LatinBold17 and LatinBold19. These are the parameters/system font names of our dear Nokia N70.You can use different fonts at the same time, just make sure that the five (5) parameters mentioned above are present. The font plug-ins are not necessary though I suggest to use them if you have 3rd party apps such as Opera, MSDict, OfficeSuite, etc. so you could utilize the fonts as well when using these apps. I consider acidnbase.gdr as a "joker font" 'coz it can somehow "mimic" or "imitate" the .ttf font that you're using.. You can browse the previous posts on this thread for better understanding.. :finga::supz: :tonqe:

thanks senok for appreciating my work, regarding your querry, well, if you're gonna use Tahoma still i'm sorry but the font size for writing messages wouldn't be changed (using my technique).. but if you're gonna use another font, that is, combination, you would probably like the output.. i recommend you use Bitstream Vera Sans (which could also be found in this thread), if you don't want to use all of the 5 Vera Sans fonts, you could only pick Vera Sans Bold 12 and paste it together with the other 4 Tahoma fonts that you don't want to change.. good day Germinator! regarding your question, well, i believe that N76 has different OS and for this, the technique of changing the system's font may not be applicable..

Question acidnbaseI use these AGFAFONTRASTER.dll and the Freetype.dll add-ons before.. They are working well but then I also tried the FONTROUTER.dll and FONTROUTER.ini. What's the difference between these two? When I used the FontRouter Packs, most applications changed it fonts too compared when I was using ang Agfa & Freetype.

Well, I just want to know the real difference between the two... Thanks!

good day laud, well, basically, these plug-ins/add ons do just the same function, that is, working with your phone's system fonts.. agfafontraster, as i know, could be found in N70, freetype lets you use .ttf fonts same thing with that of fontrouter. it's just a matter of choice as to what you think works best for your phone.. =)

yes you can use .ttf fonts from pc (windows), but i'm using a different method of using one.. when you try to scan my previous posts, all the .ttf fonts that i have used were all "renamed", but there is this method using FONTROUTER, where you can use the .ttf font without renaming it, provided you have the correct FontRouter.ini that comes along..

Hi, CyBeRaY! Could you please upload Nokia Sans Semibold that I see in this image? You seem to have made the icon font thicker, and, as obvious, the messaging font thicker as well. I really liked this font, but was put off by the stick-like messaging/icon fonts.

Well,I don't think I got the point.Do you want to use Nokia Sans Semibold in messages menu ?..

I want to use Nokia Sans Semibold throughout the phone, especially for messages. There was a previous attachment within this thread that said Nokia Sans Semibold, but the zip file actually contained just Nokia Sans. Nokia Sans is good, but the font used for SMS messages is just too thin to offer good reading. I want a thicker version of the same font.

Secondly, I found these fonts on the Net that are original but maginified S60 third-edition fonts that were meant to be used on the E50 in place of the smaller fonts that it originally comes with. The fonts are very good, but where the icon and SMS fonts are large, look good, and offer good reading, the rest of the places, like in the menu and title, the fonts get chopped off in half and are not readable. If possible, could you turn these into N70-uploadable fonts?

Thanks a lot for the input. I installed the Nokia Sans font and Fontrouter on my phone, but the SMS/menu/icon font, although better than before, still remains thin and different than the bold font you've shown me in the attached images. As you can see, the names for the softkeys are ok, but the names of the applications in the menu and when you write an sms are not in bold. I want one where the names of the apps and when you write a new message are all in bold letters. I tried using fontnamer, but I can't do it. Can you make me one where everything is bold letters? I have tried to change my 6120 font using some fonts that is posted in this forum, but it seems that the font won't appear correctly.
the font is cut on the middle. i only can see half upper side of the font. this also happen when i change my 6110 navigator's font.

does N73 fonts that is posted here can be used on 6120 classic or 6110 Navigator? because as far as i know, 6110 Navigator and 6120 is using S60 3rd edition (Symbian OS 9.2 fp1).

could somebody please create at least one cool font for my 6120 Classic?

All fonts are fine, means work for 6120c. But use FontRouter settings: FixFontMetrics=1 and FixCharMetrics=1 so no cutting font. If the problem is with the font size, change ZoomRatio=85 or so. Read more, click here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).

if you're going to use Font Namer and have your own font converted, just rename it to LatinBold12, LatinPlain12, LatinBold13, LatinBold17 and LatinBold19.

I also use your 5 fonts for N70ME, they are so cool :), the menu text is Ok, nice, but only message text or texts in some programs are so small, please make them bigger! :ilove::thanks:

AGFAFONTRASTER.dll n Freetype.dll didn`t work when i change the .ttf font for the 2nd time.first i used rafabold then i changed into campgrandNF but it still display the rafabold.
any xplanation?thx b4

Try to use FontRouter.. The old method that i have posted here doesn't seem to work on all .ttf fonts.. If you're using FontRouter then you should edit as well the FontRouter.ini that goes along with the font..

try this font, adapted to Nokia N70.. Extract the zip file then paste all components to C: or E:\System\Fonts

HOBONIC FONT by acidnbase

Im using N70 with Chinese Lang Pack.
These two are the only fonts I've found on the net that worked.

FranklinTahoma.gdr = nice but cannot use some special characters. It even disabled the chinese characters.

Uni16_S(GBK).gdr = huge magnified font. All special characters are enabled.

As usual.. Copy and paste one font inside C:/System/Fonts. If not available just make one.

To remove just rename "Fonts" folder to "Font" then delete the font inside.

you can use FontRouter for this mate, even N70 with Chinese Language Pack could use this font..
