Large Time Screensaver on Series 60 3rd edition

A version for Series 60 3rd edition is technically ready, but in order to be installable on any phone, it must be officially tested and signed by Symbian Signed, which takes some time. This is due to the introduction of platform security in Series 60 3rd edition.

Most of the new features in 1.02 were developed quite a long time ago, but I originally wanted to wait for the officially signed version to become available before releasing it. Since the signing process seems to take a very long time, I changed my mind and released it now instead.

For poeple eager to test it before the officially signed version becomes available, an unsigned package is available for download. In order to be able to install this on a phone, one have to sign it using a developer certificate for that particular phone. The steps necessary for signing it with a developer certificate:
Get makekeys.exe and signsis.exe. These are included in the Series 60 SDK, available from Forum Nokia.
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
Create an account at symbiansigned.com and download the latest development certificate request tool.
Generate a certificate request file using the key file created earlier, for the IMEI of your phone. (The IMEI code can be found by entering *#06# on the phone.)
Submit the certificate request at symbiansigned.com and retrieve the developer certificate.
Sign the package using signsis: signsis largetime-1.02-unsigned.sisx largetime.sisx myphone.cert mykey.key mypassword
The resulting file, largetime.sisx, is now ready to be installed on the phone.
Known issues

The feature to turn off the unused parts of the screen doesn't seem to work on most Series 60 3rd edition phones. Thus, the screensaver might use very much power. Exactly how much it affects the battery life is not known, though.

On some phones, however, the screen actually is powered down, but it seems to only keep a narrow area active (about as large as the default screensaver), no matter how large area the screensaver reports as being in use. The workaround is to manually turn off power saving for the screensaver in the settings.

Some E50-phones seem to have problems where the default screensaver is used instead of the manually chosen one after some time. I don't know about any workaround, but the problem seems to be in the screensaver server, since the same thing happens with the other built in screensaver, too.

When upgrading, try restarting the phone if the new version doesn't seem to come into use. This could happen if the screensaver server has the old code loaded into memory and doesn't notice to load the newer version. Selecting another screensaver and doing a preview of it before upgrading might help.

note: if used in conjuction with screen rotate program when the screesaver starts it reverts to default orientation which in itself is fine unless you have phone locked.
if so then u have to press any button for the screensaver to disengage and only then u can unlock the phone. not even sure if i should have posted this in screen rotate thread since the same happens with all of the savers.

more of a sideffect than a bug!

all screensavers will drain the battery as they are constantly redrawing the screen but I assume some more than others.

Many thanks for this great App! Rep added.

Works great on my E62. The big "missed calls" and message icons looks fantastic with the big clock. Very cool in white and black backgrounds.

Please let us know, if someone notice if this app uses more battery than the original clock! I“ll be paying attention to that.

Hello everyone, in regard to battery drains it might depend on your usage. I am sure that on N73 the battery consumption of this screensaver almost the same as the original one, eventhough it might be a little different which i cannot even notice it. As it is larger display on ScreenSaver so it might be taking more battery, but not very significant. Using it on landscape mode, and still giving potrait screensaver.....it is cool though

situation: phone is locked in my pocket, and i want to quickly check time, or are there any new messages, it is dark, so i cannot read anything on my screen.
(fictional situation)

question: how to turn light on, and still remain in screen saver so i can se the time?
any button i press, either does not turn light on, or returns to home screen with light on.
so what is the use of this screensaver in dark situations?

phone is N80, with latest fw

It shows only part of the screen on the N80IE latest firmware :(

Guyz en Dollz, It does work with a n80 & n80ie, i had the same problems until i figured it out.

This is what u do -

- Go back to the theme that ur using the "large time screensaver" with, highlight that theme.

- then click on "options" then "edit", move down to "Power saver", click on it, make sure that "Large Time" is highlighted, then click on "option", then "settings".

- u are then prompted to choose background color, i went for "white" but u can try "black" too, then ur prompted to "save power by turning off unneeded parts of the display?"

IMPORTANT! ...choose "NO".

- u are then brought back to "power saver" window, choose "options" again and click on "set".

it will now work as it should and u will see the whole screensaver etc.

* But on the n80 and n80ie, in "settings" --> "phone" --> "display" u have the "Sleep mode" option - set it to "OFF" and then the screensaver will show all the time but if u do not and leave it on "ON" and the phone sleeps after its preset time (i.e. with the blue light at the top flashing") u will not see the screensaver.

On my phone, this is the setting it on, all the time and i do not see any significant extra drain on battery power at all.

Hope this helpz...

...enjoy! :)
