Nokia E61 working fine

No map by loader for my country, but in default map is there, so I make a first navigation by wifi, mark some lander points, so them was stored on phone, so that map is there without connection.

No gps, in simulation mode wors great!

not bad for a beta release.

a bit slow scrolling/panning through the u.k map i downloaded onto my n73.

the search section needs refining - i have been frustrated by having to turn the predictive text on/off to type searches.

i haven't tried the routing navigation yet, but compared to tomtom 6 it takes about 4x as long to figure a route out.

u.k maps are from teleatlas(99% sure) as there are a few streets i know that are missing, but always present in navtec maps.

for now tomtom 6 is better, but if nokia keep improving this they'll be onto a winner - pricing isn't too bad either £45 for 3 years usage(& i presume map updates)
:ilove:

u.k postcode search is only 5 digits:cry:

I don't like it either.

This is not Smart2go. Smart2go is fast when it comes to zooming and panning. Nokia Maps is painfully slow.

Stick with Tomtom until Nokia comes up a with a better package.

It works really fine on my n80. For the first time it delayed about 10-15 min to start, but now it only takes about 10s.

Maps are much detaild than tomtom6 maps. I live in a small city that tomtom not cover. Now, with NokiaMaps i have every single street of my city.

But tomtom has a better interface and navigation options. Hope samrt2go will improve.

when you plug in the phone with a usb cable, you get a different options like "pc suite", "data transfer" and "pictbridge"...

just pick data transfer mode and it should work fine.

I downloaded the MapLoader a couple of days ago. After installing it I realised that my continent - AFRICA is not supported (yet) so I sort of got reluctant to in stall SmartGo. So in this case what will be the procedure to get those maps, for Africa and specifically South Africa?

Many thanks

to use in mass storage mode, you go to menu, connect and choose data cable and from here data transfer if i remember well.

Do you guys know that even though some maps arent downloadable from the PC Maploader, but you can download it over the air? It downloaded Australias maps even though it is not stated as being available.

Also, you do not need a GPS for this to work. If your network supports GSM triangulation, then it can find "roughly" where you are within 50 m!! How good is that?

i'm pretty sure my network supports this, but how i enable it in smart2go? i don't see it in options and it always defaults the gps point to some place in europe (i'm in the usa).

Anyone managed to solve this internet connection error problem?
More details of the problem:

MapLoader

The connection to the map server has been interrupted. Please make sure that your Internet connection is working and retry. If you still cannot download, please try again later.

Basically i have shut down both my firewall. Unless this program requires port forwarding in my router, if not, i don't see what's blocking the traffic

Anyway, i only installed maploader, did not install the sis on my phone yet. Is this the problem?

Just use GPS option OR network data cell. It will work. :)

I can't find any option to use network data cell. Where did you find it?

It works fine with GPS. If I don't connect it just defaults to the last GPS position. Even after first installation it defaulted to the last known GPS position (that I had used with the hidden Navigator)

Also I noticed that it updated the hidden Navigator application in my N80. Landmarks added via Smart2go are available in the (hidden) landmarks application.
So Smart2go interacts and uses the previous hidden applications... they remain hidden though :?

Hello mate. This app will use GPS and GSM pointers. GPS will provide excact postion, and GSM will sniff you position via the nearest cell. :)

EDIT:

This app will automatically detect if there is GPS or GSM pointers available. There is no options to choose from.

About maps:
please not that the maps available are FAR MORE that the ones you can download with Nokia Maploader.
You have to access them online via your mobile (and they are saved on the phone).
Please be aware that these maps can be quite basic and navigation may not be available.

About application:
it's a full application but remember it's still beta. Further improvements should come.
Also to get some features (like navigation) you have to pay :(

Yes, but if you select simulation mode, y're navigation in the way you want, without gps or not, and also you can download voice commands, so you can navigate (really only see the way) only that way, and if you pay you can do it in real mode, that's the difference.

I meant real time navigation ;)

I have to say that (based on the simulation) navigation is not really usable, at least in my N80.
IMHO bad use of the screen: you have a directional arrow and voice, but the map is too tiny to be of any real use.
Just compare with TomTom.
In this sense I said that this application needs some improvement before becoming a serious contender, especially for car navigation.

It's has already some good and (potentially) winning points:
- maps coverage of most of the world
- you can download (FREE) maps on the go, only for the area you need... good for trips abroad
- for reference and walking routes is already usable

Smart2go is free ONLY for showing your position NOT FOR NAVIGATION. You must pay to Nokia if you want navigation instructions.
It uses either GPS Device or GPRS Connection through your mobile provider to find your position on the map.
Becarefull if you use GPRS it costs a lot, at least in my country (Greece), because it downloads a significant amount of data.
Unless someone CRACKS it it's almost useless.
I hope I helped you a bit

You can download all the maps into your phone and disable network usage.

So this is free to use, UNLESS you want navigation option.

bro simcard,

u mentioned "free to use" as in free to search for an address w/o the need to connect to the internet? i've tried numerous times to search for an address w/o connected to my wlan and the search doesn't seem to work, but if i search while connected to wlan, it works like a charm... any idea? i've downloaded the countries into my mem card too. thanks in advance!

As I mentioned before, it's complete USELESS if it's not cracked or licenced somehow, unless you have unlimited GPRS connection.
Without WiFi or GPRS you can't even do a search for adress, not to mention navigation.
The only thing it works, is showing your position on the map.

Hi Guys,

I am using N80ie and from Singapore.

I would like to visualise the whole process for network based navigation, hence need your guidance on this 'cause it seems that it is not working for me. Not too sure whether is this due to my mobile network provider. Will there be any difference if I am under UMTS or GSM?

For GPRS network based navigation right, once I load the application and have network usage enabled (of coz loaded with map of Singapore), will the application automatically browse to the nearest cell station of where I am?

I have loaded the application for quite a while and I am still stuck in default GPS position (Berlin) and when I move my directional buttons, the gprs icon on the top right hand corner will blink for a while and eventually will cease blinking.

Appreciate ur help on this.
Thanks a lot :)

Rainy.

This is the freeware version with no addons. There is a version in the OS9.1 board that could be the full version but the instructions are in Turkish.

@ remo - I have that problem everytime except mine goes over for about 5 mins but if you do cancel, it just wipes the download. I suggest that you post on Nokia's forum or email the devs of this app as it's an annoying bug. :|

OK guys some clarification, but I think the following is happening, the map loaded is only about a few MB when installed on your PC, that's because it's an interface to a web server that has the maps available. Hence that's the reason why it take ages to install maps onto your phone, the map loader is downloading your requested maps from the internet (via bittorrent so you’re at the mercy of your internet connection and the load on the web servers). while your PC is downloading the maps its directly copying them to your phone, (so you won't find a copy of the map on your PC either).

OK, on the mobile side, any location search request is sent to a web server, in that the web server takes the load of searching for an address and once it's found it the server posts back the longitude and latitude coordinates back to your phone, again if there are multiple search results there will be a lot of data packets coming back which will obviously cost you, further more when you request to calculate a route, the start and end destination along with your route calculation requirements, (fastest routes, use motorways, speed etc) will all be sent to the web server which then will performs the route calculation. Once the route is determined the result will be sent to your phone where the phone will then display the route.

Why Nokia Maps does this, well one advantage is that the route calculation is not done on your phone so the result calculation may be quicker thus not draining your battery, but that's about it, having the Nokia Maps application constantly in communication with web server means that they can check to ensure that your a pre-paid member, and also run up cost for the MSP because of the data package communication running to and from your mobile to the map web server.

I can’t see this app beating TomTom or Route66, if you install TomTom and load the required map, then that’s it you don’t need anything else, there are no communication requirements apart from your mobile phone and what ever Bluetooth GPS device you’re using which is free for as many years as you like there’s subscription fee.

i need some help and advice.

I have a N95. I have downloaded Maps for Singapore and bought a 3 year navigation license. Everything is working perfectly EXCEPT : I cannot hear any voice navigation at all! My volume is set to max and i even tried selecting different voice language (e.g. English UK or English US) but there is no voice during the navigation!

Any way i can check if my voice files are correct? If i re-install smart2go software again, will it wipe out my license?

Some advice or help is very much appreciated! Thanks in advance! :ilove:

transfer to phone.....??? help pls Nokia E65

It's explained on the site mentioned: just press the (big) button labelled HELP

This is what is written:
1. Download the map file first.
2. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable, on the phone select MASS STORAGE mode
3. You should now have a memory card icon on your desktop
4. Browse the memory card for a folder called 'Private' open the folder and look for another folder called '20001f63'
5. If you found it go all the way back to the 'Private' folder then unzip the file you downloaded and copy the '20001f63' folder to your "Private' folder. You will be asked whether you wish to overwrite the existing folder, just say yes.
6. Once all the files have copied, eject your N95 from the computer and try it out. Hopefully you will now be able to access the maps. Make sure that in the settings for your Maps program you have set the 'Use network' option to 'Never'.
