Yes you can but its REALLY SLOW if you download straight to the mmc or usb pen drive as they use FAT file structure :(

You may also get issues if the files are larger than 1gb due to the FAT file cluster :(

For faster transfer to MMC/USB pen drive I would suggest download to computer first and then move over to MMC/USB drive for a faster torrent download :)

Well, usually Torrents dont go that fast, dependant on torrent health, if the torrent speed is under 500 kps, which is likely, than it shouldnt matter really, but it doesnt take long to download, you dont want you memory card to overheat if you are downloading something that takes hours :D
