the sloweness is to do with the crap GPS receiver Nokia put into the N95 - the N95 has a NaviLink chipset GPS receiver which is so lame and no comparison to Surf III or MTK chipsets. NaviLink is considered old technology with low sensativity and large lock times (hence why that guy spends most of the video just waiting to get a lock)

The reason he turned it upside down is because the antena is located in the keypad, so to try to get a better lock - if you have to lower yourself to that you already know the internal GPS is lame.

In the video you can also see how the N95 locks to 4 satellites, this is due to the low sensativity of the NaviLink chipset - it will be worse in built up areas with high buildings - proper navigation requires a minimun of 6 satellites. I been using GPS receivers for over 5 years and when I saw the spec of the inbuilt N95 GPS receiver I couldnt beleive my eyes on how weak it was.

Hopefully if they ever do release the N95i, they will put in a better GPS receiver - I for one I'm sticking with my N80, TomTom and a separate GPS receiver, so much better - it beats the inbult N95 navigation any time and place :D

I'm sure that's great news for the many N95 users but this isn't the place nor are you allowed to post live links (please replace http to hxxp). :(

Wrong mate. Have you ever tried running Route66 with an external SiRFIII dongle? Runs just as bad and worse..

R66 was fantastic on WM05.. but runs like **** on S60. Read the comments in the R66 thread on this board and you'll find that at least 10 people will agree on this one.

Still buggy as hell I tell you. Unless the people at R66 learns how to reprogram, then they will get flooded by other software.

Just hope TomTom comes out fairly soon!!

not sure, I tested both Route66 and TomTom in my N80 with an external MTK dongle (QStarz 810) and SurfIII dongle (GPSlim 236) - switched on either dongle, gets signal/lock within 30-60 secs (MTK gets signal slightly fatser than SirfIII), and as soon as I load TomTom or Route66 they both jump into action picking up the signal from the external GPS, total time is about 1.5min.

When I bought my N95 I returned it the next day when it turned out it takes on average of 5 mins to lock on a satellite (my mistake, should have checked spec before buying it), and even when it locked it would pick up about 5 satellites, while my MKT external dongle could see about 12 satellites from the same spot - was not impressed with the N95 at all (well at least with the navigation hardware)

so far tested and tested and nothing

theres no way this version 7.3.486 of route66 is working with n95

left for quite some time and nothing while internal app maps picks 4 - 7 satelites easily with new firmware offcourse hard boot 45 sec soft only 5 -10 sec.

also ran paralel internal gps software not maps and locks fast while when i check r66 still nothing

even if it worked dont think i would be keeping it, slooow to open slooooow to shut down slow to go back, what can i say it's slow.

iono if somehow gprs was utilised to trick us or theres newer version being developed without about info being updated but for sure this one doesnt work.
if im wrong somehow n95 users pls respond.

I also believe it's a fake
you should try starting Route66 with bluetooth turned off, it will always ask you if you want to start bluetooth
in the video this isn't asked...

How about waiting for the NEW version of Route 66?? The versions floating around has only been written for the previous generation of phones that do not have an internal GPS.. so thats why it WILL NOT WORK.. *SIGH*

i would be interested if this does work i have driven down the motoroway using the inbuilt maps application with great britain loaded onto the memory card with maps2go app. This seemed to track my movement quite well i did notice though using tomtom with the bluetooth gps was alot faster then the maps built in application,

there is no way i will ever pay for the maps application as it is lacking so much, i was so dissapointed with the boast of the features GPS with the n95, well no........ you only have maps with a pinpoin of where you are if you would like to navigate you will need to buy it £5 for a week of £50 for 3 years.

i would be willing to test any of these i managed to get r66 running on my n91, and tomtom 6 on n80, and now tomtom 6 on my n95, i also had a 6630 and 6600 with tomtom5

Okey, it seems that R66 original package (ver. 7.3.468) works well on internal GPS receiver of N95. I've read, in other webforum, that cra**ed version has available an additional menu named "Standard GPS" in setting preferences , while in original ver. it doesn't exists!
However, cra**ed version always forces connection via bluetootht. The original and licensed version not!

I confirm that it isn't a FAKE!!! Only original sw package of Route 66 Mobile 7 v2/3 runs well over N95 internal GPS receiver!

I have original package of route66 and it doesn't run with internal N95 GPS receveir. So for me it's totally fake.

Hello!
I have Route66 and TomTom on my N96, but I can't use them. The problem: GPS. Where can I choose the internal GPS? How can I do that?
They are both looking for an external GPS receiver, on bluetooth.
Or, maybe my GPS soft versions are not good. I don't have original soft, if you know what I mean .
Thanks!
