View Full Version : URGENT Use real TTF font
1dave 18th May 2007, 14:36 I am using a true type font on my N70 and it is amazing..
Advantages:
1. It is possible to use any symbol used in Microsoft Word..
2. Font size can be changed.
3. No need for .gdr fonts..
4. Fonts are smoother because of the anti-aliasing depending on the font used(for best result use .ttf that is aldready bold ex. times new roman bold)
The First screenshot shows the special characters and symbols of a .ttf. It is very small but don't worry It can be resized, I only used 10. I used the SS60B.ttf of nokia 5500 but any true type fonts will work.
The Second screenshot shows that special characters can be sent and received WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). If you are not using a .ttfont some special characters are produced in square symbol and it is quiet anoying.. HEHEHEHE....
I already tested it with my nokia N70 that supports a chinese language but I think it will work with phones that are using europian fw. because the chinese font of my phone was disabled by the loader..
PHoeZies 18th May 2007, 14:46 can this be used on older phone type eg:6600?
1dave 18th May 2007, 14:52 I have'nt tried it yet.. because I have just discovered it today,, I hope it will work bacause it's totally amazing.
1dave 18th May 2007, 14:56 UPDATE!!!!: Open Type True Type fonts can also be used., when using a bolded fonts adjust the size to 11 or 12, and when using thin fonts use 10 instead
CyBeRaY 18th May 2007, 16:22 I still prefer mixed fonts...It's boring to use only 1 ttf font on my N70 while I can use 5 of them at the same time :)

After u've downloaded the font pack,extract all 8 files to ur desktop,then copy & paste them into E.Then again copy & paste them into E:/System/Fonts folder using a file explorer application (I use X-Plore).If there's Fonts folder in C:/System , rename & delete it.Your N70 and mine are the same version,so these should work on ur N70 too.
coolindian 19th May 2007, 01:09 @CyBeRaY: Dude this font rockz!!! thanx for helping me out...its much more clearer and looks more like my earlier n71 which supported ttf fonts!!! reps up to u man!!! :partyman: :ilove:

Yeah,Nokia Sans and Arial supports almost all of the unicode characters.It's upto you where to assign these fonts (I usually use Nokia Sans in messages,for example).I haven't tested the others yet.

SWABIU.TTF
SWABRU.TTF
SWARIU.TTF
SWARRU.TTF
S60SC.CCC

can the posted FONT.ZIP be used for my phone model?
I read in some other thread I just have to create a font folder in my e:/resource folder and copy and renamed the ttf font file into it.
Will it work as well instead of using the the fontrouter.dll and fontrouter.ini ?

i got a problem when i install fonts by cyberay on c:\system\fonts my phone stop working when i restarted it, by the way my phone is n70, can someone could help me
1dave 23rd May 2007, 13:20 If you put the font pack in c and your phone crashes, the only way to fix it is to 4mat ur pon mem. I've also tried it in my cuzins n70 but i've extracted the font to the mmc so no damages but the pon crashes when the font is present. So i used a mmc reder to remove it. But in your case u nid to 4mat d pon by holding green key(call key)+ 3 + *, while d pon is booting.
bigglue 23rd May 2007, 13:52 Great improvement!
CyBeRaY 23rd May 2007, 19:24 I always use them on E:/System/Fonts (and they work with no problems)This should prevent your phone from crashing.

1dave 24th May 2007, 08:16 I've created a sis file of Segoe Bold.. All screenshots are in 11 size. Except for the 5th screenshot it is at 8.
Silverevo 24th May 2007, 08:19 Can someone advise me where to get the unicode editor to edit the dll file? I am trying to get it to work on my 6681.. so far the font seems to response but I could not adjust font size without the editor
1dave 24th May 2007, 08:22 I've created a sis file of Segoe Bold.. All screenshots are in 11 size. Except for the 5th screenshot it is at 8.
Just extract the zipfile and install the fonts after that restart the phone and to prevent the web, opera and calculator from crashing= using a fexplorer go to z:/system/Fonts copy CalcEur.gdr then paste it to C:/system/Fonts then restart the phone and thats it. The attached file has a font size of 11, change it by using systemexplorer or any editor that supports unicode editor.

Dont edit the Fontrouter.dll instead edit the Fontrouter.ini, use systemexplorer search in other threads.
Silverevo 24th May 2007, 10:43 Dont edit the Fontrouter.dll instead edit the Fontrouter.ini, use systemexplorer search in other threads.
Thanks, I found the systemexplorer.
One thing quite funny, it works fine initially,, the after a few time of reset, my 6681 hangs then reset to original font. Now it does not work anymore. I tried re-copying everything again but does not help... any advise?
1dave 24th May 2007, 14:40 Did you edit the configuration file?? check it twice if not then it is the fontrouter bug try doing this: first rename the font folder in c to any name then if the CalcEur is present, delete it. after that edit fontrouter.ini. Find these strings:
DisableFontFile=Z:\System\Fonts\S60SC.ccc
ExtraFontFile=E:\System\Fonts\Chinese\NOSSB60.ttf
AlterFontFile=E:\System\Fonts\Chinese\NOSSB60.ttf
then the output should be:
;ExtraFontFile=E:\System\Fonts\Chinese\NOSSB60.ttf
AlterFontFile=E:\System\Fonts\Chinese\NOSSB60.ttf.
If still not working:
ExtraFontFile=E:\System\Fonts\Chinese\NOSSB60.ttf
;AlterFontFile=E:\System\Fonts\Chinese\NOSSB60.ttf
Rename the folder back to fonts, copy CalcEur from Z then restart your phone
remember!! use unicode editor if you open the configuration file useing an ansi editor the font will mess it up and you must install X-plore to fix it..
Hope if fixes your problem.
1dave 24th May 2007, 14:49 can u post the content of the configuration file here?? I will try to see if there is a prob. and I will try to debug it.
sadiksrs 24th May 2007, 15:12 but how to install it and get worked ..... wil u please give a little defination about this ..... please .... waithing for ur answer
1dave 25th May 2007, 08:08 but how to install it and get worked ..... wil u please give a little defination about this ..... please .... waithing for ur answer
If you downloaded the first file I've posted::
1. exctract the contents
2. copy it to your phone
This should be the contents of your phone and memcard:
C:/system/Fonts/ the fontrouter.dll and fontrouter.ini
E:/system/Fonts/Chinese/ inside is the font.
then restart your phone.
If you downloaded the 2nd file I've posted::
extract it and install to your phone.
REMEMBER your phone must be capable of writing in chinese.

1dave, thanks very much for your help. I found my solution to change the font type/size for my 6681. Basically I dun think my 6681 support true font, it only runs on gdr font file. so by replacing and renaming the 'new' gdr file, I get the same results - only thing is that I only have one font size for all the menu.. but heck it works... Thanks you very much anyway 1dave, you are indeed very helpful.

first ensure that your phone is compatible in writing chinese chars. if not then install a different fware that supports chinese characters then, follow the instructions included.......

I just wonder if font sizes can be adjusted using FontRouter.
I'll try to use multiple fonts.. the font size can be adujsted just experiment with the configuration file. hehe
CyBeRaY 25th June 2007, 01:03 I use N70 and tried FontRouter but couldn't get it work no matter what!I changed variables according to your examples (taking the paths of N70,of course) but it just didn't change.I installed FontRouter LT for Symbian 6/7/8 Beta (Build 20070603) and restarted my fone to see FontRouter works (GDR font was replaced with Nokia Sans.ttf) but I couldn't modify the FontRouter.ini correctly to get it work.
Here I see that using FontRouter trick multiple fonts can be used on N95.I use 5 ttf fonts on my N70 at the same time and all I want is to be able to modify their sizes.So,can someone explain it in a little bit more detail here?..
I checked blesio 's post (FontRouter on N95) to get a clue but when I checked it I was like WTF!There were sooooo many variables.I saw a FontRouter.ini file modified for N70 but it didn't have that many variables.
Can someone help me with that,pleaaaase!..
The files in my Z:/System/Fonts are :
AGFAFONTRASTER.DLL
BrowserEur.gdr
CalcEur.gdr
Ceurope.gdr
NOSNR60.TTF
NSSB60.TTF
NSTSB60.TTF
S60ZDIGI.TTF
Here I'm posting the ttf files I want to use on my N70 and the FontRouter.ini I modified (which doesn't work ).Can someone give me suggestions on how to modify FontRouter.ini file depending on these files?..
My fonts :

BTW I tried Segoe.sis u made and it didn't work on my N70.
EDIT : I've solved my problem on my own :D
