However, why can't you replace the other icons? If you don't know, you may guess...

An application to build icons but in *.ico or *.cur format is the "AWicons Pro" but I think there will be some way to convert them in bmp.

After I look at the .mbm and .rsc file, the reason that we can change the icon at the main menu according to ALaunchIcon.mbm.

Since ALaunchIcon start and load only Main Entertainment Phone Office and Tool which those icon can be change.

Anotherthing is the default_xxx_icon doesn't seem to load.

Tonight I will go and have a look on how can we go further to change most of the icon available.

what problems ? i would suggest to copy yours resource folder from rom drive (Z: drive) with some tool like x-plore, and edit *.mbm files by yourself with mbmtool, then write thous files on memory stick (D: drive) on resource folder and reboot :)

Phone reboot with label, that memory is overfill, and rebooting cycle. But when I rewrite all files, this problem vanish.

well the w950 doesn't use a memory stick. So i don't think this trick will work. :goodman:

If write this file in Flash memory(D:\resource\...), it work, but may be some problems with RAM.

the Mask file should be 8 bit .bmp and icons 16 bit .bmp
you can resize icons and generate mask with Adobe photoshop

1-load a MBM file

2-find this folder >../MBMTool/temp (exp : C:\Documents and Settings\Bahram\Desktop\MBMTool\Temp) BMP icons are here

3-look which icon you want to change , for example 002(icon) & 003(its mask).
chose any other icon you like, resize it and generate its mask with the same size(exp : 64*64 or 40*40 or ... )
that 002 & 003 have.

4-rename the new icon and its mask to 002 & 003 and replace these with old 002 & 003 in Temp folder.

5-when you change all icons save the file as MBM form MBMtool.:)

as i m not too much familiar with the mbm wizard......i would prefer mbm tool instead......ur only allowed to import the images in .jpg,.jepg or .bmp,.png format doesnt work......just make three .bmp icons for an icon for example messaging on sizes 18x18,40x40 and 60x60 respectively........import them to the editor and right click each of the three individually and make a quick mask for each of them.......do this for all the required icons and save it as an .mbm file (ALaunchIcon1.mbm)...and transfer the file to d:\resources......thanx have fun!!!!.........

Cheers for the tips, whilst I like most of the icons, I've just modified the Network Status and 3G icons and all works well :)

I've been playing about with the z:\resources\ZSBLIB\ZSBLIB.MBM

Using the original file I've replaced all the network signal icons with the below

Yellow star to replace the odd Task Manager icon in the right corner
Wifi now goes red instead of blue, making it more visable and
Mute looks like the Windows XP icon instead.

Have attached two files this time. bmps.zip are all the individual bitmaps. resource.zip is all MBM files in the correct directories.

plz check the size of the modded images....16 bpp is fine....
the icons are good but u can increase the contrast to make them clearer

I just don't see the change in the fonts.
I moved the entire folder (FONTS) over to my 4 GB card via a card reader.
I placed the folder in D:Resources.
Inserted the card and turned my P990i on.
I don't see any change.

Am I doing something wrong?

Also is there a way to increase the fonts to a larger size as the default.
Meaning if the default is large then the large might be larger?

Could you please add more status bar icons like 3G, email status icons, internet connection status etc so that it will give more complete look. Further, if you could release a alternative version with a black outline, we can use with other themes with white status bar as well.

I've just add sms and email status icon. I'm testing it.
I haven't still found which file contains internet connection status icon or sound status icon, so at the moment I can't add more icons.

About alternative version there's trouble because in some icon, like network signal and battery status, there in not enough lateral space for black outline.

I moved the 5 folders fron within this .rar fill into my D:\Resource folder.
Rebooted the P990i and nothing changed, should it have?

I created a resource folder and copied all 5 folders over from the recourse.rar file.
Should I have dropped the individual files into the recourse folder, or copied the folders with content over?
I copied the folders (5) with content over.
Reset and my icons never changed.
I also installed the utz app found on page 14.
So the background changed but that is it.
What step did I miss???

Went back and transfered each file that was within the folders but when I rebooted my P990i they all defaulted back to the original icons taskbar.

Tried that but they get changed back to KylomPjtRecog.rsc upon restart.

I have tried 3 times cant figure this out.

I disconnect and turn off the P990i turn it back on and the defaults appear.
When I go into the M:\resource folders the files are changed to .rsc files.


I tried to drop the MBM files directly into the resource folder just to see but that did nothing.
Also tried to drop the MBM files into there respective folders with he rsr but that to did not work.
Have not found a thread sharing anything on this as of yet.

It could possible be any of the following software applications you installed from Kylom:

- My CalCul UIQ3
- Projekt UIQ3
- Finanz UIQ3

If any of the above, I think it is a file protection that kicks in when you copy new files to the Resource folder.. Just a guess.

Let us know.

Ok Finally after reformatting I got the taskbar to show top and bottom.
Now the background theme are also installed and showing up.
How do I get the icons to change?
Meaning the phone, phone log, main menu, and activity menu?
I moved the MBM folder and Icon folder into the D:\resource folder.

a. no. On P990, you cannot change the 4 icons on the main screen.
b. you can use it, it works for me.
c. again, you cannot use the icons on the main screen. If you want to use them otherwise, just put the somewhere on your memory stick.

R u using his theme on P990? this theme use to work fine with my earlier firmware but after upgrading it to R6D23 the Standby ICON's background is not transparent, Main Menu background is white, the background color of icon selected is blue. in short its looking very ugly. do u have corrected theme ?

the icons are just great and working fine in my p990i but the arrow needs to be facing up in a p990i because the status bar is at the end of the screeen anlike m600/w950.p1.

I have put all files as instructed in their own folders under resource on the memory card. The status bar icons have changed and work great but the main menu icons haven't changed on my P990i. What am I doing wrong?

Im new here but i have read all the posts and managed to work out how to change the icons on my w950i (Thanks 2 everyone) but i really wanted to be able to change the other 4 so i did sum recearch on google and found this.

Icon1: MediaPlayer.mbm
Icon2: default_qmapp_icon.mbm
Icon3: default_agenda_icon.mbm
Icon4: default_contacts_icon.mbm

I'm not sure if this can be done on W950i but lot of peoples (including me) already tried to change these files on P990i and still negative result. Anyway, good luck to you on your W950i.

Thanks, but i've tried and also cant make it work, so its obviously just something were all doing wrong or not doing as it must be possible if other people have made it 'work'

I dont fully understand how the MBM files work but i hope someone that does will find out how to do this soon so please :) all of you with knowladge about this subject keep trying to work out how to change these last 4 icons.

It must have something to do with my last post if other people have got it working like that.

riffola, make sure to put the menu file in x:/resource/apps

Nope, it wont work for me, these are the correct names for the files and everything but it just wont overwrite the icons in the rom drive :(

Ok here are all my original menu icons, They dont look the same as most peoples because im on a contract with 3 so i think the icons were also all made by 3 :)

hi when you transfer the mbm file to your phone make sure it has the correct filename and that it is in the right folder (resource/....) Also make sure
that you restart ur mobile. :)
