- PlanMaker 2006 Rev326
What's new: OpenOffice.org support as well as bugfixes and feature improvements

In an ideal world, you could create Microsoft Word and Excel documents on your desktop computer, put them on your Pocket PC, edit and format them on the road, and then send them back to the office in their original file formats, with content and all formatting still intact.

This is what Pocket PC users expect from their mobile computers.

Unfortunately, this is not how it works right now. Pocket Word, the "word processor" shipping with all Pocket PCs, is perhaps the biggest disappointment for mobile users: No tables. No outliner. No on-the-fly spell-checking. Severely limited text formatting. Image support? Barely existent.

What about document conversion then? As soon as you move a .DOC file to your mobile device, all features that Word Mobile cannot deal with are stripped and thrown away. Not much more than bold, italic, and a few font variations survive...

Excel Mobile doesn't fare much better: It supports just a quarter of the mathematical functions of Microsoft Excel and silently s the rest when opening an Excel file. Excel Mobile does not support any chart, drawing functions, AutoShapes, or cell comments.

Now there is an alternative: In contrast to this "toy office", SoftMaker Office 2006 offers the full feature set of a modern office suite:

* TextMaker: Multi-language spell-checker. Graphics and drawings. DTP-like wrapping. Footnotes and endnotes. Tables with calculations. A forms designer. "Track changes" and comments. A full-fledged outliner. SmartText. And much, much more!
* PlanMaker: More than 320 calculation functions. Complex numbers and array calculations. Goal seeker. Named ranges. A powerful charting engine that can display any Excel chart. An AutoShapes-compatible drawing layer. And much, much more!

And most importantly: TextMaker and PlanMaker read and write seamlessly all Word and Excel files. You can take important documents with you and work on them without losing any formatting or content.

Thanks to mc123 for the rapdshare link. The original file contained a 7zip that just didn't work with winrar and this forum supports RAR or ZIP. Thanks for the upload barev but in future, please recompress the file so that it only uses RAR or ZIP..

I've recompressed into RAR format and uploaded it here, should work now!

WINRAR can read 7z. if it doesn't automatically open, do it manually

only use the rapidshare link:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

the attachment links aren't working...

then you can easily open it with winrar or other tools...

Here is the official website for 7zip:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

I've used it because it is free and the compression is very good ==> thus saves file space

The attached files did not work for me either. Changing the original attachments for a recompressed one, should work now.

Tested and working on MIOA701

I compressed the executables using the Windows version of UPX and saved around 5 meg on my storage card, I also then removed the extra spelling languages and Planmaker + resources (PM* files) and Textmaker ran fine without it. Since I don't use Excel, It saved me a lot of space on my card (not that I need it, but am a geek with things like that..)

Shame there is no Powerpoint, as I noticed the MS Powerpoint I have on my machine (Mobileoffice 12 I think) doesn't have powerpoint - It is only a powerpoint viewer.. Anyone know of a powerpoint alternative for PPC??

Thanks for the app :) Rep added

Hi bros,

For those having problem extracting the 3-part RAR archive posted by barev, it's because part 2 of the archive has a different filename. Just rename "Soft_Maker[3].part2.rar" to "Soft_Maker[1].part2.rar" such that all the 3 archive names are similar, then extract by WinRar. Extracts flawlessly...

Thanks to everyone... I just shifted from Symbian UIQ to WM and I miss DocumentsToGo and looking for a similar Office in WM... I think this is the answer...

Cheers...

ursoouindio

I believe there isn't a 2008 version for Pocket PC, just for Desktops...

harutopia
30th January 2008, 15:18
right, no 2008 version for PPC yet. i can no longer find the Softmaker PPC post of KUMA, it is better than this one, i think. his version has a keymaker, that lets you register it under your name.

ursoouindio

and how is the registration on this one here?

and kuma's post: [Only registered and activated users can see links]

the software versions are the same as here

I can't download anything from these upload servers like rapidshare and other... so I got these that where attached to the post, but not installed yet.

harutopia

yes, they are of the same version, but the way you can install them is not the same. the version in this post is just a fixed trial version that doesnt expire (try to open HELP>>ABOUT) and you will see what I am talking about. while with kuma's post, you can definitely register the software in your own name (just follow the instruction included in his post).
