Hey there.
I have been thinking about importing an iPhone from the US and unlocking it and using it here. I know the immediate risks of unlocking but....... my main worry is that some day soon Mr Jobs will be able to reverse the unlock. I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to the UK firmware onto a US model come release date.
Thanks

Yeah, the UK model is going for USD 540 (269 GBP) so that is one of the reasons i want it... plus i want it i want it i want it!!! But i am worried about it getting locked after future firmware releases.

The update DOES NOT brick unlocked iphones. Its pure speculation, its been proven that unlocked iphones will be re-locked and de-activated. There is no current method though to jailbreak the new firmware.
There's no known reason atm why we shouldn't be able to flash a UK update to a US phone, although without the UK version firmware(1.1.1) being hackable - would be pretty pointless for now unless your on O2(providing the update does indeed lock it to O2).

check out gizmodo.com. Confirms bricking in some cases (even with ligit sims). Which sucks. Thinking i might get a SE P990 until apple sort their act out.

Sorry guys I don't understand the problem why not get a Pay&Go SIM card? the question now is if I need to register the phone and the expensive contract to be able to use all the functions of the phone; or providing I use a Pay & go O2 SIM I could update the software without problems? and this update would try to make me sign a contract?. The only problem I see in the I-phone is lack of satnav software
The key will be after the 18 month contract when Apple and O2 will have to provide an unlock service to customers that want to keep the phone and change the carrier and when this software appears the right tools to hack it will also born.
now if you want to play with a £269 toy be my guest but don't cry if you brick it
