There's a big new version for Gmail's Java application for mobile phones, released quietly yesterday. If you click on a contact in Gmail Mobile 1.5, you'll see full details, including their photo, and if you entered the phone number in your contact's details, you can call them directly from Gmail Mobile. More improvements listed below.



Another improvement is that you can save an unfinished message for sending it later. And, like the Maps Mobile application, Gmail shows the bandwidth usage every time it loads data. Plus there's an option for encrypting your traffic, but this is not recommended because it slows down the application.

It's early days for Google Mail Mobile 1.5 and note that so far it's available only in English.

Good application in a new avtar. I like it!

A preview of things to come ! from Google. It has your google contacts. You can search them and even dial them from there if you want. Now that Google has come into mobiles in a big way, some good changes can be anticipated.

i was using gmail for mobile for little over 4 months ...

was working well....
but then many features were missing ....

and now .... wow ... just see the improvements ... youve got the contacts, junk mail, even trash and many new things ....

every gmail user ...... it is incredibly simple, uses very less data man ....

compared to the previuos verion 1.1, the full screen has gone on my E-61 and the app Icon is so small that you really need to use a microscope. Other than this definately its faster. I hope the full screen features comes back.

Sorry for the above comments, for E-61 u need to directly downlaod the app from Web app. Its working fine in full screen and the icon is fine too.

I would advise everybody to get the phone specific version of this application by going online with your phone to:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

You will get the full screen application and a proper icon too ;)

Problem with downloading via mobile in the UK is you get "googlemail" not "gmail". This annoys me.

So, if anyone has N95 version with a decent icon I'd much appreciate it!

deinstalled old version, rebooted phone, installed this one... no go when i try to start it. No error message, just wont start.
