An application of my own to schedule SMSs. Uses Python but is a stand alone application. It installs fine on my N73 even though it uses a rudimentary UID and is not signed, can anyone else install it ok?

Anyone who has experience with the signing/UID process could you let me know how I should get this sorted so I can make this an official app, any help would be much appreciated.

Any comments, feature requests or bug reports are welcomed.

I'm getting varying reports that it may or may not work when installed on the memory card, I'll look in to this, but it may be best to install on internal phone memory for now, it's a small application so won't take up too much room.

Changelog:

1.01:
Added repeat support (please test and let me know if it's working ok)
Can only cancel edit/new scheduled sms from the select-contacts screen, this fixes a bug where if you edited a scheduled sms, you could only re-choose the contacts if the first date/time/message form had been changed.

1.02:
Only show contacts who have mobile number
Order contacts alphabetically
Show '(unamed)' for contacts without name
Ability to enter number(s) not in phone book

1.03:
Save/load scheduled sms' to disk

1.04:
Various bug fixes
Better scheduling of SMSs, should eat less battery as no longer checks if SMSs need to be sent every second.

gooooood job! The program works like a charme, sms repeat function ok! Keep going!!

Some minor bugs I encountered on E-Series are..
-if you press "save" more than once it creates more than one message but only the one you set the recipient will be sent (and can be see in smsscheduler list): others remains in the outbox checked as failed (no recipient give).
-the sms it send appears in the outbox with the number (not the name) -for me doesn't matter at all
- maybe "Choose" or "Next" works better than "Back" when choose the recipient

[REQ] can the recipients (or the first) be shown in the list of scheduled sms?

[FAQ] smssched must be loaded to have sms sent? or I can exit the app after set up my schedule?

It can send msg on scheduled time only when it is open.
So it's useless acc. to me.
SMSChat is good for Scheduling SMS..

Probably you are right, but smschat is to purchase (or cr*k), done by industry. This one is (for now) FREE, done by A MEMBER, a m8 that spend it's time to give us a nice a very good tool and he's doing a very good job! And, most of all, you can request features ..
How long I've been waiting for such an app..

Only when is open .. so [REQ] a "Hide" button to bring it back when scheduling done..

Thanks for the kind comments Xcape, as you have rightly pointed out, the SMSScheduler is a dedicated stand-alone application (albeit reliant on Python, but that's a small price to pay), developed by me, it's a work-in-progress so I'm happy to add features as requested. SMSChat only has some very basic scheduling functionality.

Here are a few advanced features SMSScheduler supports over SMSChat:

SMSScheduler is a dedicated program just for scheduling SMSs
SMSScheduler supports repeat functionality
SMSScheduler allows scheduled SMSs to be deleted and edited
SMSScheduler allows sending of SMSs to multiple recipients

Unfortunately PyS60 limits the amount of text that can be entered (in fact it's probably limited by Symbian), so that's the maximum your gonna be allowed until the good developers at PyS60 add support for a full-screen unlimited text editor.

I suspect most people would use the SMSScheduler to send short messages such as "Happy Brithday" etc anyway.

Thanks for your helpful reply, unfortunately most of your requests cannot be implemented due to lack of PyS60 functionality...

-if you press "save" more than once it creates more than one message but only the one you set the recipient will be sent (and can be see in smsscheduler list): others remains in the outbox checked as failed (no recipient give).
I'll have a look at this tomorrow.

-the sms it send appears in the outbox with the number (not the name) -for me doesn't matter at all
Don't think I'll be able to fix this, there doesn't seem to be a way using PyS60 to send a message to a 'contact' (name), only a number.

- maybe "Choose" or "Next" works better than "Back" when choose the recipient
Agreed, but unfortunately PyS60 doesn't allow me to specify these texts, we're stuck with what they give us :-(

[REQ] can the recipients (or the first) be shown in the list of scheduled sms?
PyS60 only allows two lines of text for each list entry unfortunately, and I thought the most helpful would be the message text and the scheduled date/time. As you rightly stated there is also only enough room for one contact. Iam however adding support for the latest tool-tip functionality from PyS60 1.4.1 and I intend to show the contacts the message is scheduled to be sent to there so watch this space.

[FAQ] smssched must be loaded to have sms sent? or I can exit the app after set up my schedule?
You are correct, you have to have the application open for it to send the SMSs. I cannot add 'hide' functionality as it is not yet supported by PyS60, but I'd suggest pushing SMSScheduler to the background by navigating away from it using your menu key, to show it again select it from the task manager (push and hold the menu key).
