Age of Empires Exceed Population Limit
If you need more units, but the population limit stops you, try this. Bring your population to 1 unit beneath the population limit. Now, make sure you have lots of resources, enough to build several units.
Next, go to all the buildings that can produce units, and QUICKLY click on the icon that makes the unit. Do this on every building as fast as you can, but you can only continue until a unit is completed, thus bringing your population to it's limit. HOWEVER, the game will complete all the units you started! With this, going fast enough, you, will be able to exceed your limit by about 10 units.

Age of Empires III Hack: Card Hack (Skirmish Mode)
Note: This involves altering a critical game file. Back up your files before you alter your FAT.

Locate the sp_NameOfCity_homcity.xml file in your \...\Age of Empires 3\savegame\ directory. Edit or open the file using Notepad or a similar text editor. In the file, search for the text similar to the string <activetech_name> and you should find a list of all the cards available for the game.

Place the technology card you want in between the <cards> and </cards> section and you should be able to play any of the cards you want. Save the XML file and boot the game. Note that normal game restrictions of having only eleven cards is still in effect.

Battlefield 1942 Hint: Start Your Engines!
Ever find yourself alone with a couple of friends on a Battlefield 1942 server? If so, then this one comes highly recommended from the IGN crew. The game's development studio, Digital Illusions, happens to be the same company responsible for the excellent RalliSport Challenge and Midtown Madness 3 driving simulations on the Xbox. Thus it should come as no surprise that the vehicle physics in BF1942 are top notch, making the various Jeeps, tanks, aircraft, and boats more than just practical transports -- they're finely tuned racing machines!
Enlist up to three of your online G.I. buddies to race against, and then pick a vehicle type. A good starting selection is the fast and responsive Jeep. Scour the map for Jeeps (make sure that they're the same color and type) and meet at a central starting point. Carefully line them all up and then decide on a course. We recommend selecting another point on the map and then making the race a round trip to that point and back. For example, our favorite Wake Island race consists of starting in the South base, heading through the Airfield, speeding north all the way to the northwest Village, driving around the flagpole, and then cruising all the back to the South Base. The action can get wild as you ram each other viciously into thickets and over hilltops, so be careful.

Another favorite IGN BF1942 race is the always-thrilling "Boat Race." As the name implies, all contestants should spawn as the appropriate team for snagging a landing craft (e.g. on Wake Island, join the Axis and spawn near the rear of the carrier or battleship). Stick with the same racing formula and you're in for a wild and wet ride around the island, where only the most efficient drivers can hope for victory. Lining up the ships can take quite a bit of time and skill, but if you're good enough, then the race is well worth the effort. Before you start, be sure to agree on a few ground rules, such as "is shooting allowed?"

With as many different vehicles as there are in the game, the racing possibilities are endless, so get creative and see what kind of wacky racing fun you can orchestrate! And when you get tired of the vehicles, why not race on foot? Perhaps each player is allowed to fire a single clip of handgun ammo as you sprint down hills and through buildings in search of the quickest route. You get the idea -- now start your engines!

Tip: Grenades make good starting signals. Have one of the players toss a grenade in front of the vehicles, and then punch the accelerator when it blows.

Battlefield 1942 Hint: Grenade Launch
Sure, it may sound a little suicidal (okay, a lot suicidal) but if you're lucky or playing on a friendly fire off server, you could be in for quite a ride. Just drop a grenade on the ground, scream "Grenade!" at the top of your lungs, and step right on top of the thing. If you don't die a horrifying death, you'll go launching high into the sky. Why in the hell is this useful? Well, I suppose it's not that useful, but it sure is fun and provides a couple of interesting opportunities. First off, if you do it right, you can fly up into the air, hit your parachute button, and float down on top of a building for a nice vantage point. Second off, wouldn't you be a little frightened if an enemy came flying down from the sky to land on your head? Third off, it's fun!

Battlefield 1942 Hint: Leave No One Behind!
If you grab a jeep, landing boat, or multi-person plane, don't leave on your own unless you're fairly certain that no one else will be there anytime soon. It's always better to have more than one person fighting along side you when you reach your destination. And it's certainly better to have someone man the guns that are attached to many of these vehicles to provide some extra support against ground forces. So take a moment to check around your area to make sure there aren't more friendlies to join you before you take off. If you can't see anyone on screen, just look at your map for the friendly arrows.

Battlefield 1942 Hint: Airlift
This one takes some teamwork and coordination, but you'll be cooler than Maverick and Goose if you can pull it off. Have one player snag a two-seater aircraft and take off flying solo. Now position a friend high upon a hilltop or in a wide clearing, and get ready to have him jump into your aircraft for a quick evacuation! Here's how you do it: the pilot needs to fly slow, steady, and directly at the player on the ground -- be as close to his elevation as possible without actually turning him into ground chuck as you pass overhead. At the key moment that the aircraft meets the player, the grounded solider can quickly hit the "E" key to hop into the cockpit and be whisked away into the clouds. Use this one to rescue a wounded teammate in a hot zone, or deploy a comrade as a paratrooper deep behind enemy lines. Just be sure to practice this one before you try it out in a live match -- a plane-to-player collision is quite an ugly sight and really hurts the team score.

This one is pretty hard to pull off, but pretty damn funny if you get the chance. There's a couple of ways to get it done, but both are pretty hard to pull off. The first involves you grabbing a plane and flying out to the enemy destroyer or preferably the aircraft carrier. Jump out of the plane, open your parachute and land on the deck of either ship. If you manage this, you'll be able to run on board and take control of the thing. Then just take the ****er out for a joy ride turning it to evil purposes. You could even turn it out to sea and move it so far away from the objectives that it becomes totally useless to anyone. The other way I've seen the theft go down is someone parking the battleship to close to shore leaving it vulnerable to incursion. That's probably not going to happen all that often, so you may only be able to consider the first option as really viable unless you can get hold of a landing vessel and pull off a pirate type boarding.

Battlefield 1942 Hint: The Healing Dead
If you're out in the field and hurting for ammo or health with no hope of reaching one of those handy dandy bunkers, just take a look around you. If there was a firefight recently, chances are some people recently died. And as you should know, players leave their equipment behind on the ground when they fade away. You should also be aware that you can pick up any of these packs for yourself. So if you notice a medic pack on the ground, switch out really quick and use the health packs. After that it's up to you whether you want to change back into your former gear. The same goes for running low on ammo. There's nothing worse than getting stuck with a pistol in the middle of a machine gun fight. So if you're out, find a dead guy and steal his stuff. If you're lucky, he'll have some ammo left on him and you'll be back in business.

Battlefield 1942 Hint: Explosive Jeeps
The Engineer's most powerful weapons are the Explosive Packs, but it's tough getting them close enough to the target to do any damage. Here's a useful trick: use a jeep to deliver the payload. Grab a jeep (the Axis jeeps work best, since they have a deep back seat and tall sides) and throw a couple of expacks in the back or passenger seat. If they're placed well, they'll stay in as you drive towards the target. When you see a target, "ghost-drive" the jeep close to it -- i.e., point it in the right direction, floor it, and then hop out with the E button, so the jeep coasts close to the target. If you time this right, you'll be out of range of the explosives and the jeep will be right next to the target. Then, hit the button and watch the fireworks. This is a great way to take out tanks, APCs, and closely-packed groups of enemies. Try coasting exploding jeeps into the middle of enemy spawn bases to do serious damage.

mapList.list: Every map on the server has an ID number, which is used for voting to change maps. This command lists those numbers, the map name, game mode and the number of players if specified.

mapList.configFile: Used to specify the location of the _mapList.con The default is \My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\ServerConfigs\

mapList.load: Makes the server reload the _mapList.con

mapList.save: Saves the current map list on the server to the file _mapList.con

mapList.mapCount: Shows the total number of maps in the current map list

mapList.currentMap: Shows the map list ID number of the current map being played

mapList.clear: Clears the current map list. Warning: If there are no maps in the map list when the server starts loading a new map, all clients will be left on the loading screen.

mapList.remove: Removes the map you specify from the map list

mapList.append: [number of players] Add a new map to the end of the map list. You must specify the map name and the game mode. Number of players is optional, if not specified will default to the current server setting.

mapList.insert: [number of players] Exactly the same as mapList.append, but with this command you can specify at what map ID number to insert the new map into the list at.


Battlefield 2 Admin Commands


admin.listPlayers: Lists the players connected to the server. This command lists the players ID number, their player name and if the player is remote it also lists the players IP number. The players ID number is also available on the Scoreboard / Manage Tab
admin.runNextLevel: Forces the server to end the round and start the next map in the map list.
admin.currentLevel: Shows the map list ID number for the current map being played. The same as mapList.currentMap.
admin.nextLevel: Shows the map list ID number for the next map to be played.
admin.restartMap: Restarts the current map.
admin.banPlayer: [timeout] Enter the player ID number you would like to ban. Bans the player from this server by using their IP address.
- Bans can be set on CD key hashes.
- Bans are stored as absolute times in banlist.con. Existing bans in banlist.con will be interpreted as permanent bans.

You can choose from a selection of time outs:
- Entering 'perm' means that the ban is permanent. This is the default if no time out is entered.
- An integral number meaning the number of seconds the ban will be active (i.e. 3600 means one hour).
- Entering 'round' means the ban is active until the next map.
- A whole number preceded by a colon (i.e. :1234567), meaning the epoch expiration time of the ban (number of seconds since 1 Jan 1970).


admin.banPlayerKey: [timeout] Enter the player ID number you would like to ban. Bans the player from this server by using their CD key hash. You can also specify a time out. See admin.banPlayer for the time out list.
admin.addAddressToBanList: [timeout] Enter the IP number you would like to ban. You can also specify a time out. See admin.banPlayer for the time out list.

Battlefield 2 Remote Console Access
To setup remote console access to the server:
- On the server create a new plain text document in \admin\ called default.cfg
- Enter the following text into the new file:

- Save the file, and start the server.

Now you can access the server remotely by using the following commands
from a client:

- rcon login
Use this command to login to the server.

- rcon users
This command lists all the users connected to the server. Very similar to admin.listPlayers

Battlefield 2 Unlock Weapons
This code may be for the DEMO version only. Make a back-up of the file being edited as well. Do not e-mail death threats to IGN because you mistakenly alter your FAT.

Open the file python\bf2\stats\unlocks.py with a text editor and go to line 44. You should see a text string defaultUnlocks = [0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0]. Change all the zeroes to ones: defaultUnlocks = [1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1] and save the file as a *.py file.

Command & Conquer Generals Hint - Multi-Stratee-gery Center
Normally when you are the USA, you can only build one strategy center. But there is a way to get more than one. For this trick to work you must be either the GLA or China. Also, there must be at least one USA team on hard or brutal. You need to build a barracks and get the capture building upgrade. Wait until the USA team builds a strategy center. Make sure it is not destroyed. Before you capture it, capture their command center. Then, build a constuction dozer. Begin to capture the strategy center now, and at the same time begin building another one with your new construcion dozer. They will both be usable to you once they are finished, so you can use multiple strategies.

Build a barracks, war factory or airfield. Select one of them and click on the 'rally point' button. Now guess where your opponent is on the map and click on certain spots in his/her base. when it says 'unable to set rally point' you have found one of the buildings of your opponent (Ed - Or impassable terrain).

Note: this code only works in Multiplayer Practice and Non-Laddered Games.
In order to get extra characters, press F8, the put in "extras fnkqrrm", without the quotations. If you have the unpatched version, put in "extras quantifigon", without the quotations. When you are at the Purchase Terminal, hold down alt when clicking on either Characters, or Vehicles. Some of the units for GDI include General Locke, Elana Petrova, Logan, and Liutenant Maus. The hidden vehicles for GDI are a Sedan, and a Pickup Truck. Nod's hidden characters include 3 mutants, a chef, Mutated Petrova, and Kane. Yes, Kane.

Command & Conquer Renegade Solo Multiplayer
Change the map in Multiplayer mode by changing the map name in Multiplayer. This only works if you pretend to be the host of a LAN game. This trick is universally acceptable in a wide variety of FPS type games, like Aliens Versus Predator 2 and Voyager: Elite Force.

Command & Conquer Renegade Infinite Skirmish Time
Note: This involves editing a game file so create a backup copy before proceeding. Or you'll be sorry.

Use a text editor to open svrcfg_skirmish.ini in the drivepath:\westwood\renegade\data directory.

Changing the GAMETIME value to numeric zero will remove the time limit, as well as fiddle with a lot of other things, like the amount of credits you start with.
