y can't u go to bios set up ?? just press Delete when ur PC opens.

Or just remove ur CMOS battery for a minute and return. when u open ur PC it will ask you to set ur cmos.

the pc is not new , i bought it by second hand!!

maybe the first person that had it had blocked the bios and im afraid to change the battery
just in case that i change the battery and the pc will not open at all?

Hi

Why do you want to get into the bios to format your system?

Depending on what version of windows you wish to install: XP is a bootable disk or if you wish 98, then you will need a floppy or a made bootable cd. (you can find out how to make a 98 bootable cd by searching on go0gle).

You could also use Gparted h**p://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php to check and format your harddisk.

take the battery out and clear the cmos by moving the jumper on the m/board. Neither will do any harm to your comp. the m/board should have its model number printed on it, then go to the makers website, to find the location of the cmos reset jumper.

hope this helps
