The new version of OziExplorerCE is finally ready to be released as a development version.
There is some help for the new version at the bottom of this page.
Downloads

OziExplorerCE Development Version 2.01

Please Note : The development version of OziExplorerCE is installed to a folder called OziCE_Dev. This means that if you already have OziExplorerCE release version installed it will not use the existing configuration. The .cfg files can be copied from the OziExplorer folder to the OziCE_Dev folder and they will be used.

Notes on running the development version:

Two versions of OziExplorerCE cannot run at the same time. The previous version must be closed using the "File / Quit" menu option before running the development version. Run the development version from the Start Menu / Programs / OziCE_Dev icon. (If required, OziCE_dev can be added to the Start Menu. - Start Menu / Settings / Menus).

Use the Settings Manager to change :
The layout or parameter types or the number of pages that OziExplorerCE can display.
The assignment of commands to the hardware or screen control buttons.
Design new page files to suit your PDA screen size.Windows Mobile 5, Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC's. dev_pocketpc_windows_mobile_setup.exe ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) The "Windows Mobile Classic" (Pocket PC) and "Professional" (Pocket PC with Phone) Operating System versions are supported. The "Windows Mobile Standard" version (for small non-touch screen phones) is not supported. Pocket PC 2000, Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003

Not available yet. PDA's running Windows CE OS 4 or 5 Core
(Not for Pocket PC's) dev_wince_core_setup.exe ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) normal installation program for running on a PC and installed by ActiveSync dev_wince_core_runtime.zip ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) the software and associated files, these must be unzipped into a folder on a PC and manually copied to a PDA using windows explorer.
The PDA's which use the WinCE "Core" OS may be devices which are dedicated to particular tasks such as running specific navigation software. The devices may be "locked" so other software cannot be installed. There may be information available on the internet on how to unlock some of these devices. Some of these devices do not support ActiveSync so all the files are also provided as a runtime module for manually copying to the device.

One of the features of the new version is the ability to display many different screens by paging through them, these screens can be designed on the PC by use the "OziExplorerCE Settings Manager" program.

Changes

Development Version 2.01 (December 2007)
Changes
For Pocket PC's, full screen mode now works on all pages which have a map on the page.
Screen Control now works on all pages except the options and satellite view pages.
If a page file is loaded which is meant for a PDA with a smaller screen, any map windows on the page are expanded until the parameters fill the available area. If there is no map window on the page the parameters are centered on the screen. While this does help the best option still is to design a set of pages to suit the screen size of your PDA using the Settings Manager. This only works with page files created with Version 2.01 of the Settings Manager, if you load them into the Settings Manager and resave they will be ok.
When put into full screen mode (Pocket PC's only) or the Main Toolbar is turned off the pages are also resized if there is a map window on the page.
The OziExplorer.key1 file has been fixed and now contains button defaults for the screen control.
This was in the previous version and wasn't mentioned - the number of loaded waypoints has been increased to 2000 and you can keep loading waypoint files until the limit is reached.
Changes have also been made to the Settings Manager and a new version is available for download.
Many other smaller issues have been fixed.Development Version 2.00 (December 2007)
Changes
There have been numerous changes, below is a list of just some of the major ones.
Multi page support with screens that can be designed by the user using a program which runs on a PC.
More than 50 new parameters have been added.
Profiles for altitude and speed.
If the Communication Port is set to "Auto" it will search all serial ports at all baud rates for a GPS which is outputting NMEA.
Compass for navigation to next waypoint.
3 Odometers are available for measuring distance.Help

Using the Parameter Screens

The OziExplorerCE download includes 2 parameter files for Pocket PC PDA's. These files have the .par1 file extension and are designed for portrait and landscape screen orientation. The appropriate file is selected by OziExplorerCE when the screen orientation is changed. Also included in the download is a parameter file for square screens (240 x 240). For PDA's with other size screens the parameter files will need to be modified in the designer to suit. Please note that for Pocket PC's with 640 x 480 hires screens the 320 x 240 page files can be used as OziExplorerCE reads the screen dpi and adjusts the parameter sizes to suit.
The "Load Settings Files" / "Load Page File" option on the File Menu is used to load a page file. The last page file used will be loaded when OziExplorerCE is restarted.
The "Load Settings Files" / "Page Selection" option on the File Menu is used to select the pages to be displayed. Pages which are not ticked will not be displayed.
Different parameter files are required for portrait and landscape modes. OziExplorerCE remembers which files have been loaded for each mode and automatically loads the required file.

Changing Pages

When using OziExplorer, the page displayed is changed using the left and right arrow buttons on the bottom toolbar. The "Map" button on the bottom toolbar will return the displayed page to the main map (Page 1).
Note: In the parameter files provided, the parameters on pages are themed so that they operate in various modes of operation of OziExplorerCE. For example the Moving Map page has a selection of the Moving Map parameters, these Moving Map parameter boxes will display parameter values when Moving Map on and sentences are received from the GPS.
For Pocket PC's the left and right hardware buttons can also be used to change pages. The up and down buttons are used to change the map zoom.
Parameter screens are designed using the "OziExplorerCE Settings Manager".

Management of Waypoints

The waypoints used by OziExplorerCE are now stored in a binary file to allow for fast record based access to the waypoint details stored in the file.
The waypoint log file "CeWaypoints.wpb" is automatically updated and any changes or additions made to waypoints in OziExplorerCE are immediately written to the wp log file.

Configuration Options

Load Wp Log - In General Settings configuration - If this is ticked (highly recommended) OziExplorerCE will automatically load the wps from the wp log file when it starts and keep the file up to date with changes and additions made to the waypoints. If this is not ticked the wp log file is not loaded and changes or additions made to the waypoints are not saved and must be done manually by using the Export Wp's to File menu option.

Waypoint Menu Options

Create Wp at Position - Creates a waypoint at the GPS (when connected) or Screen center position (when not connected to the GPS).
Import Wp's from File - Loads a standard OziExplorer waypoint file (.wpt) into the waypoint log. More than 1 file can be loaded until the number of waypoint limit is reached.
Export Wp's to File - Writes the waypoint log to a standard OziExplorer waypoint file.
Waypoint List - Displays the waypoint list.
Delete All Wp's - Deletes the waypoints from the log file and also the loaded waypoints in memory. Caution Deletes ALL waypoints.
Compact Wp Log File - As waypoints are changed or deleted the older records of the waypoint are left in the file and marked for deletion. Eventually the file will have many of these deleted records and will require compacting to remove these records.

Management of Tracks

There are 3 ways OziExplorerCE can use or manage tracks.

Logging of a Track - If turned on every track point collected by OziExplorerCE is stored in a track file called ceTrack.plt which is a standard OziExplorer track file, this is the preferred way to log your track. There are functions available on the Track Log menu option to Copy the track log file to a different file for permanent storage and to Delete the track log file if you want to start a new log for a new trip.

Track Tail - This is the track which is displayed on the map as you travel, it is limited to a maximum of 1000 points stored in a circular buffer. The track is automatically stored in a file called ceTrackTail.trb, this is not a standard OziExplorer track file and is designed for fast record access so the file can be updated with the latest track point quickly. If the "Load Track Log" configuration has been ticked the file is automatically loaded when OziExplorerCE is started. To reduce the speed impact of drawing the full 1000 track points the "Track Tail Length" can be specified in configuration.

Additional Tracks - Up to 5 additional tracks can be loaded into OziExplorerCE, these are loaded by using buttons on the Track Toolbar. Use these tracks if you want to load a saved track for viewing on the map.
